Having grown up enjoying the Superfriends, this sounds good to me (if true)! But no Gleek=no interest.
I'm part awe-struck and part dumbfounded by the Wonder Twins announcement. I'm probably going to have to have them, unless Gleek really doesn't come with the set.
Hrm. If it's an AFD prank, it's awfully elaborate. I'll definitely spring for them if they're real, but no Gleek = . Meanwhile, I got the rest of my wave 7 (Capt. Cold, Beetle, and Booster) order from Amazon today, and... ARGH. I was so close to getting a perfect wave on the first try again, but alas: Booster came with Atom Smasher's right leg instead of left. Amazon's customer service is great, though, so I'm sure I'll be able to get it replaced. The figures themselves, however, are outstanding. Ended up with modern Booster -- the metallic colors are gorgeous, and I'm stunned at the detail inside Skeets. (Mildly disappointingly, my Skeets is glued into Booster's back.) Beetle is perfect, with very clean lines on his costume details. And Captain Cold is very well done -- seems to be totally made up of new parts. I can see Mattel easily reusing most of him to make Heat Wave. He'd just need a new head, chest holster, forearms, lower legs, pelvis, and gun.
I was hoping the Gleek thing was the joke. Honestly, I'll get them for the childhood memories of Superfriends (like Karamazov said), but the Gleek thing is a ruiner. It's like getting a three stooges set but they left out Curly. I must have gotten the one Beetle with messed up lines (one line on his chin isn't straight).
I love that the Wonder Twins come with Zan's face in the bucket of water and Jayna as the eagle. And Gleek, as much as I hate to admit it Toy News International - Daily Action Figures Toy News, Reviews and Discussions
There've been pics of Zan floating around for a while, so they're likely legit, I think. How hard do you think it would be to remove Skeets from Booster's back? I'm not crazy about him being on there permanently.
Somebody over at theFwoosh (I think) said that his/hers came out pretty easily. It might just be stuck in their really tightly.
I picked up the Kalibak wave today. I couldn't help it as I'm a fan of Kirby's Fourth World characters. I must admit that I am so impressed by the QC of the toys. Has the QC on the DC toys been good?
Yeah. Gleek being exclusive to the convention is really gonna drive up those ebay prices. Does anyone know if they did the same thing with Dawg from the Lobo exclusive? I got mine off of ebay and not from Matty, so I wasn't sure.
I think it depends. There have been a number of complaints here about people having the wrong hand, or the wrong BAF piece, or something equally ridiculous. Personally, I've had sloppy paint apps on my Aquaman, and supposedly the Wal-Mart exclusive wave 5 is just horrible, though I have never seen one of those in person to validate that.
Thanks for the heads up! Looks like I will have to examine the figures carefully before I buy them! I'm going to hunt own the "Orion" wave next!
That's why I try to avoid purchasing them online. When the QC is good, the figures are awesome, but when the QC is bad, it's BAD. Wrong limbs, paint splatter, frozen joints, you name it.
QC: my Aquaman's left ankle joint is frozen, and Lightray's legs are a little iffy, but other than that my figures are pretty good. Dawg: Dawg came with Lobo SDCC 09: Must have this set, and I will try to ebay Gleek, might take a bit, but I will.
I've had QC problems galore. Black Manta: His left shoulder was glued shut. Penguin: The Rex Mason torso can't bend at the gut. Black Lightning: warped right knee connection. Eradicator: warped left knee connection. Firestorm and two-pack Orion: extremely loose waists. Lightray: warped ankle connection. Robin: Black Manta Pimp right hand. Riddler: missing question mark paint apps. Starfire: warped right leg. Deathstroke variant: warped right leg. So yeah, alot of QC problems that build over time.
I'm real jazzed about the Wonder Twins and Gleek. Gonna have to go the eBay route for em I guess, but its worth it if they look like those large prototypes.
