BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Formula 1 | F1 in disarray over scoring plan So.......now there isn't a new scoring system........
Don't get me wrong, Hamiltons a great driver, but his (relative) inexperience at this level has had him make mistakes that have cost him, making the title race tighter then it should have been. For instance his late tire change stop which made him spin out of the race (whichever GP race last year, I don't remember the exact one), his pit crew should have been SCREAMING at him to pit in and change before the inevitable happened, and I suspect they were, but he probably thought he could get away with it for a few more laps. Still, his experience has grown, so hopefully this year he'll dominate more. We hope.
Red Bull Racing : 4th Sector - Dreamsphere: A Racing Car Comes To Life Very nice vid from from Red Bull on how their F1 cars are built and developed
I hope theyd strip all technology off them cars and really see what nuts and bolts, engineer and a team, with a smart driver can do. All those ECU's and hydraulics, computers, and cheatin ass shit slide thru. I really wonder how much they are in control of by the pits.
During the race all the pits can do is read data from the car, they can't change anything. The pit crew can instruct the driver to adjust some of the setting on the car's wheel such as the rev limiter to conserve fuel or save the engine (as they have to last 3 race meetings at least now). Driver aids that help the driver are gone from the cars, and were last year too, no traction control, no launch control , no ABS (though they never had this) and no active suspension (got banned before anyone had even used it). All the functions that the driver has on the wheel are things that the pit crew could adjust in a stop, but this would lead to longer pit stops which would be detrimental to the team's performance, and it's more efficient for the driver to fine tune some settings out on the track so they can feel instantly if they've worked or not, rather than suffer with a bad setup until the next stop. You won't find a road, race or rally car from the past 20 years that doesn't have an ECU or hydraulic-assisted brakes and steering so why shouldn't the current F1 teams?
Ya right, well I know theres not a corner in the known world that could be possibly made that these cars cannot handle. Like they said, if there was an appropriate tunnel, these cars would really drive on the ceiling!
BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Formula 1 | New teams for 2010 - Ecclestone According to Bernie there'll be 3 new teams next year!
just saw practice my god those front wings are HUGE things look like they could fly lol and I am gonna hate the wins point system its gonna kill whatever competition the sport had left in it
^^^ same here. the new look of the cars is still something i really have to get used to. they just look weird compared to the previous years... as for the wins points system, i thought they went back to the old scoring system?
last I heard they switched the points to whoever wins the most races wins the championship and whats your guys opinion on the turbo (GITS?) system? I think it could add some pretty good competition to the races and strategy to conserve it
Watching the qualifying at the moment. Aesthetics wise, the front wing being bigger than the rear will take some getting used to; it just looks a bit off. Looking from the top, the cars just look a bit off with the small rear and those huge tires. So far, it looks like business as usual like last year..
HAHA, total failure at slowing the cars down with the new rules. This is why I love Formula 1. I expected them in the mid/high 1:30's this year in Mel.
brawn gp really has been super fast up to qualifying, we'll see if they can carry it to a win. fells unreal not to see a ferrari or mclaren at the front row...
Qualifying is done! Unfortunately not without controversy. BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Formula 1 | Results | Australian Grand Prix qualifying results 1. Button 2. Barrichello 3. Vettel 4. Kubica. The top 6 places are separated by ONE second, it was a really great qualifying session. Toyota's cars did well, but unfortunately were excluded for their rear wing and diffuser assembly being too flexible according to the regulations. They're appealing the decision but at the mo they're taking the back row of the grid. Hamilton had a transmission problem between the first and second sessions and so he's had to have a new gearbox, so he's right in front of the Toyotas.
You'd have thought there would have been some kind of tech inspection well before now, that would have determined the legality of those diffusers.... Those new front wings are kind of weird, and given the amount of oversteer most of the teams are complaining about, it might not hurt to make them a little smaller. They still look better than all of those funky little fins and winglets the cars had started to sprout in reccent years. They were starting to look like something out of a bad anime. I kept waiting on the Knight Sabers to chase one down, with a jet powered motorcycle.
It's a pity it's actually Button; would've been nice if Webber was in the top two grids in his home race just once..
