ok. im tryig to connect my ps3 to the internet using an ethernet cable and my cable modem. at first i set the ps3 to do it easy and automatically but timed out trying to get an IP address.

after messing around with my ps3 and my cable modem,i successfully got a IP address. but then the connection test failed saying an error as accord with the DNS.

im not computer savvy. but when i was checking the info of my connection on my pc. it had 3 DNS addresses and noticed that the ps3 had a primary and secondary addresses only. i have no clue what to do.

shuold i trying going wireless with a wireless router or will the same thing happen with it too? or is there still something i can try? i was happy because i was so damn close this time.

i don't know if a topic like this exist already, i tried searching but got nothing. please don't shoot at my head at pointblank range with a proton cannon.

    thank you.

    Wireless
    1. Select "Network Settings" under "Settings" in the home menu, and then press the "X" button
    2. Select "Internet Connection Settings", and then press the "X" button. When a message stating that the Internet connection will be terminated is displayed, select “Yes”, and then press the "X" button.
    3. Select "Wireless", and then press the "X" button.
    4. Select "Scan", and then press the "X" button. The system will search for access points within range and display them as a list.
    5. Select the access point that you want to use, and then press the "X" button.
    6. Confirm the SSID for the access point, and then press the right button.
    7. Select the security settings as necessary, and then press the right button.
    8. Enter the encryption key, and then press the right button. The encryption key field will display an asterisk (*) for each character you enter.
    9. Select "Easy" or "Custom" and adjust settings as necessary. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust the required settings.

Note: You should always choose Easy before going onto to adjusting the Custom settings. In most cases, the Easy settings will work and are set automatically so you won't have to search for information that could have been gathered automatically.

K simplifed dns is what translates Transformer World 2005 into the ip address 67.220.195.210. Your computer\console\ipod\internet fridge needs 2 servers with a list of translations (primary and secondary) to tranlate all web addresses and route your browser to each server. You can have more on occasions, OSX 10+ has room for quite a few.

To change this on your PS3 WIRED connection go to network, choose custom settings. keep everying else on automatic but for DNS set to manual. Enter primary as :208.67.222.222 and your secondary as 208.67.220.220 (open dns which is reilable) complete the settings and it should work.

This is something you should do,

Call your ISP, they will tell you which settings are needed to connect on their network.

Some ISP's require that the MAC address (physical address) of the device connected to the modem be registered or you will get a Private IP and will not be able to access the web with it.

Your ISP is the best to advise you. Even if you get a wireless router, you might get the same issue.

Also, after connecting a new device yo the modem, you should always power cycle the modem.

I would also suggest going to dslreports.com, find the forum for your ISP and see if the question about the PS3 was asked.

    This

The modems my company uses all have to be reset when you switch devices. How you reset it all depends on what kind of modem you have. So, call your ISP.
