Well this explains the gorilla look for devs. The other constructicons aren't any where near his size so his legs will be rather small you know.

Quite on the contrary, I think you can hardly get more unique than this. It was already apparent in the first movie than the decepticons had a visual theme straying from the usual human-like robots, and now it fells they're running with it and making them true metal monsters.

ind of seems small for a guy that can knock Prime's teeth out. He should be Leader or Supreme but that would mean the whole set would be over $200

I don't know, I'll have to see this thing in motion to really get a feel for it, right now I'm not liking it too much.

Since it's very likely not a toy that'll be sold by itself, I think it's neat as part of a set. To be honest I don't really see a point in judging it on its own if it's going to be used in tandem with other toys. ;)

It would seem this is only one piece of the combiner...

That is what I was hoping for. I think this definatley puts more of a scare factor into it. If this toy is one part of the puzzle, then I am happy.

Which from the movie trailer proves to be a very effective form. Humanoids are not necessarily the most efficient forms / beings.

Least Bay recognises this, hence why its a good thing why he moves away from the humanoid look of G1.

So we did not see Devastator in the trailer at all, only one of his component parts, Shovel Head, who is already significantly larger then other transformers so far. Maybe the film will revolve around the Constructicons gradually coming together, as they are spread across Earth upon atmospheric entry and need to gather. Wonder where the Fallen comes into all of this, any speculation on my observation

I'm intrigued, but man is he simple. For a movie toy and for a voyager. Like a minicon transformation.

Prime is the Fallen. He just fell in the trailer.

That's very similar to the theory I have. Since the scenes in China are from the beginning of the movie (Audi R8 chased by Arcee/Prime jumping on the Construticon), I'm thinking they're all going to be gathered in Egypt at the end for the final battle and to excavate the Fallen.

Oh yeah- I totally agree that it is a unique design, and do so is one way to create interest in the movie design esthetic, I was just saying that the choice seemed to me more driven by the designers getting into a technical jam. This all speculation and I don't think we've heard one way or the other, but I imagine that when they started thinking about Devastator being a combiner made of 6 (ish) individual sentient robots, they put themselves in a jam of tehcnically modeling and building that. And the solution to that was to create characters whose robot modes were not fully humanoid because it saves them space and facilitates the transformation to combining/interlocking parts.

In all honesty though, from the trailer, this character looks excellent and terrifying, so I think they pulled it off. I guess I just wished that the "roller form" was a secondary/tertiary form and that this character had a fully fleshed out humanoid form.

I agree to a point- this is, in a way, only 15% percent of a toy, but that's not entirely true. We're hearing (assuming?) this will be sold in a pack, but this character, Steamshovel or whatever, is a standalone character with a unique bio and characterization (well, ideally, maybe not in the movie). IMHO, what makes the past combiners so excellent is that each character could stand alone and was unique to the others... Long Haul being the gopher, Hook being kinda a jerk... I DO think it's fair to judge a figure that represents a unique character on it's own even if a large part of that character's role is to combine with others with which it will be sold. After all, your review of Universe And His Armada does judge Nightstick individually. [IMG]

BTW, love the show. I just subscribed to it in iTunes.
