    First Statement - Irony

Second Statement - Cool for you.
    ============
If past Botcon Sets have shown me anything, the surprise factor will make them rock. :)

If any of these rumors/hints are true, it would seem we won't be getting a set that specifically commemmorates the 25th anniversary of the brand... which is fine, I suppose, but not what I was hoping for.

I would be most excited about a set that either pays tribute to the origins of TFs (the Diaclone idea I and some others keep harping on) or pays tribute to the history of TFs (a selection of characters from across G1, BW, BM, RID, A/E/C). Seems like the best ways to appropriately recognize the 25th. *shrug*

I've thought the diaclone idea is a pretty good idea, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized you couldn't really get 10 toys of it. You can't do red Sunstreaker, because its the same as Sideswipe. Same for yellow Sideswipe.

They could do the black Ironhide, white Sunstreaker, blue Bluestreak, and blue Optimus. There's no Skids, Tracks, Trailbreaker/Hoist, insecticons, or jumpstarters. They could "repurpose" other molds to be those, but I think it'd kind of ruin the spirit.

I guess they could also do the Classics Devastator (made from the Energon combiner) in red and orange.

I don't think they can do that without true new molds though (for lines except G1/G2), because they're too new. Like how are you going to homage Rhinox, WITHOUT using Rhinox? Use Cybertron Backstop? It's going to be a downgrade for him. I think any mold you pick and put in other colors will loose the purpose.

That's the purpose of the main Universe line. And as we've seen with toys like Smokescreen and Red Alert, it seems Hasbro/Takara is really going to do all the G1-based repaints they can.

Good points, I don't disagree with anything you said... I'm just trying to figure out some other way to really capture the spirit of this milestone anniversary, and I can't think of anything.

Those FP guys are a tricky bunch, though... can't wait to see what they've come up with!

I dunno... you could get close if you included that other pre-TF gold-mine, Microchange:

    Red Mirage
    Blue Optimus
    Police Sideswipe/Sunstreaker
    Black Ironhide
Blue (or other pre-TF minibot color) Bumblebee
    Blue Bluestreak
    Black Megatron
    Blue Ravage

And, uh.... well, shoot, I guess Grimlock would look about the same, but for having a blue crotch. And you couldn't very well use the blue and silver Jet-robos, they would look almost exactly like Starscream and Thundercracker.

Though the idea of having a second unattainable Botcon Thundercracker IS delicious in its cruelty. :)

Okay so maybe not quite ten toys. Darn... I liked the pre-TF idea too. Especially if the box included some retro, wackily-proportioned, painted Diaclone-style boxart as well.

Nothing wrong with legends its just they all get repainted like 4 or 5 times so they will shoe horn any one into them tools so I wouldn't take some being the same mold in a legend as mean thy could be the that mold later on.

I think if this set came with Sunstorm there would be so much NerdRage it would break the internet. :D

I was really hoping to attend this year I just can not work out the cost of the flight. I will get the non-attending set but I would have like to have gotten all the exclusive figures.

While admittedly impossible, the powered convoy repaint of the city commander armor would round this set out nicely. :D

Most of those I mentioned. I did totally forget about red Mirage (that mold is awesome), and recoloring minibots. I seriously don't think they'd get away with a black Megatron, due to toy laws. But the "pad with eHobby style" repaints is a good idea. Black Sideswipe and Sunstorm are easy.

You could always add to the Diaclone decoed Classics, some decoed like G2 toys (hey! it's the 25th anniversary! you can homage both pre-tf days and post G1 days), like Black Sideswipe and Blue Grimlock.

And since we're talking pre-TF, you can also include different Valkiries decos on Jetfire, like Max or Millia's VF-1J, or Ben's VF-1A.

Do we have 10 figures already? :)

If FP is still of the mindset of not re-using molds they've used before then a whole lot of the 'padding' options are out the window.

Seriously, when is FP going to tell us something???? I can't stand all this waiting! The convention is only 4 months away! We know 7 months in advance last year about Shattered Glass!

Did we? By my own recollection, the convention brochure was made public aproximately 4 months before BC08, not 7.

I'm expecting more info by February 1st.

Last year pictures were trickling in February and the Con was in April. I wouldn't expect anything until mid to late Feb for this one (not that I agree with it)

If it's Gladiatorial I won't be buying it with any sense of enthusiasm. if it's characters like a couple of Energon Autobots rebranded as Rack and Ruin or a toy of Straxus I might be more interested.

Personally I'd rather they just filled in some gaps and made things Hasbro seem disinclined to make - such as perhaps Mixmaster (from Quickmix) & Hook from (Mudflap). Since there's been a few Constructicon sets sold as Universe with missing characters and those would be a good idea to round out the missing Constructicon members as non combination characters.

I hope it's not Gladiatorial I dispise that aspect of Transformers I think it's far to over played in certain comics.
