I was just alerted to this discussion by Superquad.

I'm trying to present my own position in this regard without simply accusing either side in this debate of being "wrong".

Now, if someone has this awesome idea to do something with a toy, I see the idea, try the same thing and then present it to everyone I'm talking to as my own idea, that's egoistical and disrespectful at best.

Now, if I have the same idea someone else had, but our paths honestly never crossed until later, it'd be a little unrealistic to claim that I had "stolen" his idea. Still, a little "hey, great minds think alike, all props to you" credit would still be common courtesy.

And I'll never get this "it's just the internet" excuse. People have been sued over things they did on the internet. Crime is possible via the internet just like it is in real life. It's just an easy way for some people to assume the person on the other end to be some faceless internet personality who lives on the other end of the continent, and therefore all the normal forms of social behavior don't apply.

This isn't something serious like identity theft over the internet. It's adding parts from one TOY to another TOY. No one owns a patent for this TOY mod, therefore there is no legality iinvolved. So, please, spare me your extreme examples while trying to prove a ridiculous point. *head explodes*

Nevermore merely made a statement "crime is possible on the internet", and while your correct about the patent, a case could be made for infringement of intellectual property rights (it would be bizarre one, admittedly, but in America, all is fair in the court system). The fact that people have been sued for internet crimes has already proved the validity of Nevermore's statement, so I have no idea what you mean by "trying to prove a ridiculous point". You provided the "extreme example", fastballspecial.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, I simply can't resist picking apart arguments . I now return you to your regular topic: a very cool mod.

Seriously guys. I've come up with two bashes I saw repeated.

Remember Classics Sideswipe from Rodimus? I did it first. And other people did it after me. Did I get bent up about it? No, I was flattered that they took my idea and made it better.

How about Movie Barricade into Classics Prowl? Me and SMOG had the idea, but I still pulled it off first. Do I care that he did it too? Do I care that other people did it? Nope. I'm happy mine came out so well that they want to do one, too.

It doesn't really matter. If anything, the original creator of the idea should be FLATTERED that people want to copy him. Atleast, that's how I'd feel.

    Again, a-freakin'-men.

If your ego is so big that you get all bent out of shape because someone modified their children's PLAY THING the same way you modified your children's PLAY THING without giving you credit, you need to check yourself into some therapy, cause posting on a message board isn't going to cut it.

Time to lockity-lock this thread before it turns into something ugly and pathetic.

You know, the direction this thread took has really sucked all of the fun and joy out an otherwise innocent and simple mod. Thanks guys.

O.K....if anyone gets this thread locked it will be you with replies like "Please shut up"....

I dont see why you guys dont understand what is being said here.....

If I make Plowking....and most of us know what Plowking looks like, and some other person comes along posting "another Plowking" trying to pass it off as his own idea, then THAT IS STEALING!!!! HELLO!!!.....WHY CANT YOU GET THAT THRU YOUR HEADS??!!

Now, if this person starts off by saying "Plowking inspired me to do this" then that is what makes it cool....its all good at that point...

Thats whats wrong with the world today....nobody cares about any one elses feelings...people just go about doing what they want "because they can"

Would it hurt to display a little courtesy from time to time, give some one props for their original piece?....even if it is a friggin idea?!!!!.....

You know, it was idiotic stuff like this that caused me to leave Tfans....dont ruin it for me here too....

I ordered a loose clocker from a fellow board, member, can't wait to try this mod, it's sweet and simple, just they way I like 'em :D

Plowking, your analogy makes no sense. We're not talking a fully named kitbash here. It's an ingenious simple mod that two completely unrelated people could have thought up independantly.

Nevermore said it best. Giving props and saying "great minds think alike" should be the way to go.

Wow, that's freakin nice! I completely missed it! Glad my shoddy mod inspired greatness :p

All I'm saying is give the OP some time, and the benefit of the doubt. he hasn't even posted since TMJN has, we all didn't even wait for his reaction before getting all bent out of shape. How could he have quoted a source in his original post if he didn't have one? Assuming he thought of it on his own, of course.

    Totally different situation.

Plowking is something completely new and unique that you thought up. Ask 1000 Transformers fans who Plowking is. They'll say it's Barney from the Simpsons. None of them will say it's an existing character, unless they know you. Some might say that you yourself are guilty of stealing...the name from The Simpsons and the entire toy from the guy who originally designed it and Hasbro....more on that at the end of my post.

But back to the issue at hand...

Hot Rod, however....well, he's a pretty well known fella. He was kinda the star of the '86 animated movie and all. And Hot Rod had exhausts on his arms. But the Alternator Rodimus didn't come with exhausts. And since we all want our Alt Roddy to look like his old self, it's only natural for everyone to go searching for some exhausts to attach onto his arms. First place we look? Other Transformers that have exhausts. And there aren't that many of them, so it ain't gonna take a long time to find something.

Lo-and-behold, Cybertron Clocker has some exhausts. And they're removable! And even better...they actually plug into the pegs on Roddy's arms perfectly. Absolutely no kitbashing required. Just as simple as pulling them off Clocker and sticking them on Roddy. No glue, no cutting, no dremelling. I'm sure dozens more people (maybe even hundreds? Thousands? Sha-bah-loo....Bah-la-sha-ba-loo-BILLIONS??) of people that don't post on these boards have figured this out as well...all on their own. It's way too simple a mod for anyone to take ownership of.

No credit is required in my opinion. Sure, a "thanks for showing me" would be nice if you do it yourself and post pics, but is hardly neccessary in my opinion for a 5 second mod. It's like my new Cerebros head that I made, using Headmaster Lug. If someone else did the same thing and didn't give me credit, I would NEVER go looking for credit. It's such a simple thing, I would feel absolutely ridiculous saying "Hey, I played with that toy in that particular way first!" At that point, it's all about t he new pics, the new poses of the figure. If someone actually comes around asking for the credit of doing a 5 second mod, I say...

By the way, Plowking...how come you've never expressed any credit to the guy who designed the Alt that you modified to make your Plowking custom? He's pretty much half-owner of that design, you know? Some might even say you're breaking copyright laws by taking something he designed, modifying it and claiming it as your own creation.

    OMG...

Dudes, I apologized lets put this all behind us....

Again I will apologise, I should have rephrased it better...Could be my Asian english is different from Western english..

I just read the thread "Surprised no one tried this with Alt Rodimus and Cyb Clocker/Swerve" And should have replied...

"Yeah a buddy of mine did the same thing...and show off the custom...."

Let's get past this and look for more Alt Rodimus customs/kitbash...

And I'm going on record here, If my apologies are accepted and the endless banters still go on, it's not my bad any more.

Now...Anyone ever tot or repainting and re-doing the flames to pay tribute to the G1 Hot Rod? Would love to see something like that.

Yes, I have ALWAYS given credit to hasbro for creating a line as awesome as the Alternators....look in any Alt discussion thread, and if I'm posting in there, I'm giving Hasbro praise for the line.....I even emailed them once asking them not to end it....

As far as claiming something that isnt mine, you're wrong....the character Alt Plowking is mine....show me where he exists before I ever mentioned him, and I'll give credit and stop claiming him to be my own.....in all actuallity....I have Lobo to thank for the name Plowking....when I was a n00b at Tfans, and first showed my creation, he had a different name....I cant even remember what it was....but Lobo suggested calling him Plowking....and it stuck from there.

Plowking.... "the toy"....(using an Alt Jeep mold) is based off of my real Jeep I used to own a few years ago, plow and all......and as far as copyright laws....did Matt Groening get sued by the group Plow King when that episode aired?....doubt it....

Did you get written consent to use this screen cap for your own purposes?...how about the image in your avvy and sig?.....you'd better watch out!!.....:lol ......they're gonna sue you!!
