Well, I have to give props to Tech_Spec for his mods to his own BT KOs (aka "Metals Transform") as I initially was not going to mod mine much at all. After I got 6 of my 7 in (I'm STILL waiting on the red WRX Impreza as Ken from Kenscollection says he's been having problems getting one to me as well as my replacements for the manufacturers' defects that I posted in Tech_Spec's thread as well), I got to examining my own wondering how to incorporate them into my Alt/BT collection. Then a familiar project of mine has been slowly making it's way back up to the surface. As a spoiler, I'll openly admit that I have 3 more heads to go along with this guy, bumping my number eventually from 7 to 11. That being said, a little backstory (with props to another kitbasher) is in order: http://members.fortunecity.com/zobovor/pvc_phantom_repaint.html When I was researching my Alternators Seekers project, I came across not only what I wanted to do for the Seekers everyone saw G1 toys of, but also some of the guys that never got a mass released toy made (mostly because they were miscolors and such). I really liked zobovor's work and while I'm not trying to 100% replicate everything he's done, I do have to credit my inspiriation, and ultimately my new project's namesake. I did get screencaps from the Rhino DVD set of "G1 Phantom": (and the closeup): . . . and here is my Binal Tech Phantom: Enjoy! *I apologize for the less than stellar photos; I am just now getting back to the point to where I can shoot a couple of photos again . . .
Cool. Nice work on it. that would make for an interesting Classics kitbash, lol. Just curious, but, who's the green guy in that picture that reminds me of Shockwave?
Kinda has that Astrotrain look to the head. I like it. Edit: ...or even a bit of an Updated Megatron look to it.
The head, forearms, and legs are all from an Alt Ricochet. The forearms and legs I only swapped out, but the head receieved the usual "Seeker mod" that I gave the others . . . and of course his own arm cannons That's probably a Shockwave miscolored as Long Haul (?) Thanks for the props guys
I'm thinking that it's one of the generic cons that were different colored versions of Shockwave that showed up a couple of times in the series after he disapeared. I read about it on Wikipedia, lol.
Whoa! SQ...the head on that is killer!...the color, and details you added to it really give it a menacing look....and you know I LOVE the custom arm cannons Another wicked custom man!.....Decepticons +1 Keep 'em coming
Thanks for the props buddy! I keep forgetting how much I hate painting white . . . (I did have to touch up Rico's head after I modded it, plus painting the arm cannons). Also, I really liked the aspect that the background Seekers that were miscolored were generic in a way and this guy's sponsor decals are a bit generic also . . . As far as the arm cannons go . . . . . . a few soap dispensers, some twist ties from TFs, some hanging nails, and my emptied mechanical pencils from school (*hand cramps*) do come in handy! I really should have went ahead and made 3 more sets of these things (9 total) while I was at it . . . *sigh* oh well . . .
You've nailed the major part of the mod. Also, I removed all of Ricochet's gold faceplate paint as well as painting the eyes red. I'm not sure if many have noticed on my other Seekers, but I always paint the vents on the side with a secondary color; in this case, it was black.
You're other Seekers are UNTOUCHABLE, no one comes close ! Hasbro couldnt'a made 'em better ! This one's right up there. ABSOLUTELY TOP DRAWER ! ..... TTT
Man, I'm really humbled and honored by that; I really appreciate that comment! Thanks for the props I think Phantom will fit in nicely with the other 7 (or will they accept him into the fold? hmm . . . ) as well as the ones on they way . . .
i ohnestly think its the white head but this guy looks awesome, im thinking of redoing a ricochet in almost all white, and satin white for the bot parts mind if a steal a few ideas?
Thanks, Syd! Even with this guy, despite only being in FFoD part 3, I did try to pay a decent respect and homage to him (as well as zobovor's custom), but [as with my other 7 Seekers] I did want to take a new spin (something old; something new). Hey man, thank you so much for the props! I really appreciate it! There is a difference in being inspired and stealing. As long as you credit your source, you'll always be ok. It's just when one passes his work off as totally 100% his and fails to give props (whether that be me or anyone else who creates any thing or idea) that you'll find yourself in trouble. My Alternators Ramjet is all white, but with different robot parts. It sounds to me like you've seen my work, found somethings you like, and you're generating your own idea based off of those things. Honestly, that thrills me to death, dude! I wish you all of the best with your future endeavors and I'm honored and humbled to have been able to send you down a creative path inspired. Thanks to the rest of you guys as well with your props; as always, they're much appreciated!
Neat idea! The head just looks reeeeally wicked. Always nice to see those "who the heck!?" dudes from G1 get an awesome treatment like this. He should look great with your cadre of seekers. Well done!
