I'm surprised no has said something like "epic fail" or "will wait for clearance" or "for $100, I hope it cooks and cleans the house for me" already.

Because they used that name in the first movie for another character. Maybe the toy will be called Devastator. But I doubt the character will be called that in the movie.

I absolutely refuse to pay 100 for this combiner set unless the vehicles also tansform into individual robots.

Oh, that old chestnut? Then I'm not too worried; the Constructicon version of Devastator is a hugely iconic, recognisable and marketable character, so I highly doubt that they'd let such an inconsequential little mistake stop them from using the name. Given that "Devastator" is the name they're quoting to all the press, it doesn't really look like that'll be the case.

No, it's because the aforementioned points of red being a bitch to work with in movies/CGI.
(Besides, Ironhide was black before he was red.)

I'm wondering if we'll see a G1-themed redeco, maybe as a store exclusive around the Christmas shopping season. I mean, they gotta get their dough back (aka everything gets repainted at least once), and you know that'd get some G1ers to bite that might not otherwise...
I will consider it an 'Epic Fail' if they put out a $100 combiner where the pieces don't have individual bot modes ~ that's basically the difference between sale and no sale to me ~ if it was say $50-70 and only went from Gestalt to Vehicle, i could at least wrap my brain around it, but we're talking about the most expensive domestic TF release since Fort Max: they need to "bring it" ~ i'm just not interested in an over-engineered Voltron/Sentai.

i kind of agree besides the Movie style head ~ and i actually like that, from what we can see... Makes me wonder if the Combined form will be a little less 'technorganic' then the bots in TF1

oooohhh, nice Catch and Very cool if true.

I doubt this thing will form just a part of Devastator. Reason is, why would the shovel arm split in two to reveal internal robot detailing if that were the case? If the shovel arm didn't split, I'd be more of a "wait and see" kinda guy, but we know Devastator will be freaking HUGE, and with 7 components, a Voyager will form a head/shoulder/ONE arm tops. If he didn't have an individual robot mode, there'd be no reason for the shovel arm to split into two "regular" arms, just stay together/elongate as one massive arm for the combined robot.

Well another reason is that his head wouldn't match with the aspect of him being multi-colored, red head wouldn't suit a multicolored combiner that already has red as one of his colors.

Well it's either a non-robot-mode part of Devastator (head, shoulders), or a transforming Deluxe with a red head.

I think I'm leaning towards the latter, just because I think Devastator would have a more "neutral" colored head, and those giant scoop arm segments seem way too complex to just HANG off the back of Devastator.

Oh wow, that...doesn't..really look like..anything....What the hell am I looking at?!
At least someone seems to have been able to find a pic of it's alt-mode, which looks rather nice. But as for a robot-mode, it unfortunately looks like they can't seem to discern quite how to transform the damn thing...I mean that's not even mis-transformed...That's not transformed at all; they just took it apart and decided to take a picture...Why would you do that?

From my best guess, it looks like the whole thing kind of turns inside-out to transform. The only things I can make out for sure would be that the shovel splits and becomes the arms, while the treads become the legs.
And even then I'm still just guessing.
But it does have a head, I can see it in one of the pics. It looks like he's making an "oh" face....

I'm going to need a side view before making my decision.

But, I can already tell Devastator's gonna be a monster.

Lol, Devastator is going to be confusing the guys who get these things for weeks to come.

The vehicle mode is very nice, working treads are a nice touch and it appears to have hands in the bottom part of the shovel that'd be way too small for a 7 piece robot so I'm going to say that it is a triple changer as previously stated with vehicle, bot and Devy bit alt modes.

I hadn't heard this $100 gift set rumour before reading this thread but that's certainly promising. I just know it's going to translate into £100 though. :(

    Glad you caught my joking,
And yeah I think that while there is justification to the red thing, it was a BS excuse to use for the flames.

I just hope Multicolor Devestator doesn't turn out looking like some kind of rainbow bright nightmare creature. (don't worry we'll get a G1 repaint!)

I trust the filmakers and CGI guys that there are difficulties, but with a multi million dollar budget, I'd figure they might at least challenge themselves to make the red thing happen.
I'll take it's one of those things that the Pros have tried ebough to know that it just doesn't work out quite right, you can do it, it just won't be nearly as good.
It makes me sad a little inside :cry  But then I get over it

Not really relevant to this thread so ending it here.

As for this toy being sold as a set, I'm pretty sure that's how it will be packaged, and not individual bots like other combiners. Still outside of collectors and "the rich kids" $99 still seems a little high for a set, not ridiculous by any means, too early to tell. Looking forward to see how the whole thing looks.

EDIT -- Total speculation but has anybody consider that with 6-7 figures combining to make devestator, we might actually get a gimmick that lets, say 3 vehicles, form two different bot modes, and then shift to be one giant Devestator? I do agree that the head seems small for a 6 part combiner, but not for a 2 part combiner, and it does look like this crane could become just one single arm. That would be a great gimmick for this set.

Here in the Netherlands it costs 140 usd to get a supreme class so 99 bucks doesn't sound bad to me.
