    June 26th, Don.

    Not the 27th.

It's hard to take you seriously as a producer when you can't even get the release date of your movie right.

That's a shame. Because for Don Murphy, having what he says taken out of context is often the only way to make it look like he's not a whining primadonna.

Isn't Don Murphy basically the chubby comic book whiner, except with a bigger ego?

Heard alot about people that surely can't stand the guy in the past.

SO DUMB!!!! What Pirates is he referring to? The third I think, and didn't the 3rd Pirates flop compared to the second? I really think they need a 1 or 2 minute trailer and some posters....

"If you liked the first movie, this is in the same vein, just more exciting, more spectacle and more robots."

GREAT! I can't wait to hear Starscream's second line of dialog. Maybe this time, "Mr. Belvedear" Bumblebee can take a dump on someone. That would be so funny! I am wondering who will be the greatly entertaining token urban robot shouting profanity for no reason. Since Jazz is dead, maybe Blaster? he could be a low rider and hold his gun sideways. Man, this movie is gonna ROK!
I am sure he just forgot to say, "...more plot, more character development,...", right?
    RIGHT?!

This does not bode well, people. I would interpret this as "We already know we're getting talked about, so we're not going to encourage more talk by promoting the product."

This makes no sense from a marketing standpoint. Sure, you're die-hard fans know about it, but that's a small minority compared to the rest of the audience that made the first movie a success.

I would interpret this as meaning one of the following:
    1. They're way too overconfident.
    2. The product sucks, and they don't want to release a trailer early because it might generate a backlash.
    3. The first rode a wave of fan goodwill and mouth-to-mouth to success, and they're too stupid to recognize that and use it the second time around.
    4. They still think "If we build it, they will come" marketing works. (It doesn't.)
    5. They're overbudget and the studio doesn't want to launch a protracted marketing effort.

If by "select few" you mean "everybody who bought into several years of continuity and enjoyed it" then yes.

Yeah, I remember him saying that. I don't know where he got the idea he had a final say, given it would have likely been down to Hasbro and Paramount.

I've got to agree this is sounding like a really bad marketing plan.

We already know that most of us will show up for it even if it's just to find something to fuss about because people dedicated enough to track down toys, comic books, or to wake up Saturday morning just to watch a cartoon are dedicated enough to drag themselves to the movies.

With such a busy summer movie line up again though you'd think they would want to start marketing early to try and standout amoung the crowd. You'd sure think they would want to get the teen and kids market in plenty of time to get the peer buzz going.

Heck it's not like you even need the robots for a teaser trailer now that we have the voice of Prime.

Like other people have said you aren't hearing anything outside of fandom right about a second movie, but you are hearing general public buzz on Watchmen and Star Trek because they have trailers to give people something to talk about over the holidays.

Didn't Bay pretty much bash this guy for talking out of his ass on the first movie? Anyways, he's saying that no matter what they make it's going to be a hit. Well sorry to inform you but if the movie isn't any good, story, characters, explosions (wait those will be good), plot holes, I wouldn't take this to the bank already. Regardless, the movie has to be good. Because if it isn't everyone will just wait for it to come out on DVD. Or can watch it on the internet for free. You really need to make everyone WANT to see the movie. So go ahead and keep everything a secret, if you guys don't deliver an EPIC freakin movie you may want to reconsider TFTM 3.

Honestly, how can general moveigoers not expect a sequel to Transformers? It's a blockbuster franchise. It's going to generate at least 3 movies. We've seen it happen with Batman, Pirates, Spiderman, LOTR, The Matrix, etc. You'd think people would get the idea by now.

I laugh when people act surprised after I tell them there's going to be a sequel(s). And I know they're not being sarcastic.

I don't think most people are surprised that there will be a sequel as much as they are that it's happening this soon. Most franchises have a 3-4 year window between movies... unless of course the sequels are filmed simultaneously like they were for The Matrix & Pirates. So to get an entirely new TF movie (ie: one that wasn't already filmed and in the can) only 2 years after the first one came - it's probably quite unexpected for most people since it rarely ever happens.

I think they are heading in the wrong direction to be honest, holding out on marketing for a movie as big as this is not good at all.

It would be better to start marketing around Christmas/New Years, this presents a WAY better marketing than waiting it out as long as possible.

Sooner or later that will create rumors about a late movie, and for the fan base the sceptics will make there voices herd.

I would bet there is somthing wrong, or at least there is alot more to work on even before they can put the trailer out, lets at least pray that there will be some leaked concepts to ponder until we get something concrete

Can't say there hasn't been *any* publicity over ROTF... didn't ET or one of those dinner-time gossip TV shows mention the movie when what's-his-face nearly got his hand amputated in a car accident?

(no, really. I did forget his name.)

PS (if you don't want opinion, read no further)

I'm looking forward to my contacts getting me free advanced screening tickets to this one. I didn't pay to see the first movie, and have no intention on paying for this one.

You misunderstood what I said. I'm talking about the idea of people being surprised that there's going to be a sequel period.

The movie is still SEVEN MONTHS AWAY. You really think they are going to blow their budget with a huge advertising push this soon? If I recall correctly, the first Dark Knight teaser came out about this far in advance.

They don't need to push a huge campaign anyway. ROTF will be one of the most anticipated films in 2009 and will get tons of free press.

I think it made over $900 million at the box office. So, I'd say it was hardly a flop.

No I didn't misunderstand what you said at all, which is exactly why I responded with what I did. People being surprised that there's a sequel coming aren't surprised because they never thought it would happen - not these days when EVERYTHING comic/cartoon/novel related gets turned into a trilogy. Ten to one they're surprised because it still feels like the first movie just came out and weren't expecting a new movie so soon... especially since there has been absolutely no hype or promotion behind it yet aside from a one-off segment on Entertainment Tonight a few weeks ago.
