what I remember G1 as is awesome, highly stylized and full of complex stories and using only the best in language, I have to go back and watch an episode to actually realize that it was really 'a 20 minute commercial' with the deregulation in the early 80s Transformers was one of a gillion other toy series; it just happened to become popular and a cash cow for hasbro to keep the line going, for almost 25 years now wheew! the transforming gimmick of the toys pulled from various lines to make up the first waves gave more to kids than a lousy human figure with crappy plastic weapons. I know since I'm so partial to the series any memories I have of it are very slanted where everything was perfect and G1 was drawn by God, when we all know it wasn't

if only my fan-tasy of a highly stylized Dreamwave series drawing and coloring show not manily aimed at children in a revamp G1 would ever make it to television....

You might want to tell that to the times Transformers as slumped in terms of sales.

So where did he say he doesn't like Transformers?

He didnt have to say it, just watch the 1st one again and you can see that he would much rather make a movie about the USA military then a movie about 2 alien robot races' war...

Personally, I liked the aspect where the US military was able to hold their own and it wasn't just a bunch of robots playing tackle football on a cityscape.

I liked most of the scenes with humans in the film and thought it made sense and was fine.

Not every TF fan wants 2 hours of non-human robots kicking each other in the crotch. So he didn't betray the wants of the fans as the fans are a dynamic group of people who like different things.

Not a fan of the military kicking around the robots. Just feels sort of like why bother to have the Autobots if the miltary can get the job done themselves. It's sort of like Batman, sure logically Gothem PD could stop Joker, Two Face, Riddler and the like with a bullet but that's just boring and blah compared to Batman being the only one who can save the day. Also made the Decepticons look insanely weak, so there was no tension to the film knowing the 'Cons can be taken out by humans.

Just liked it a lot better at the start of the film where the military didn't just roll over, but they couldn't really stop Blackout either.

It's sort of odd though that if you say something about the human cast that people think you want it human free since we've always had humans in the Transformers except for Beast Wars and Beast Machines. I just want well done characters like Sam and the military unit and less filler characters like the hackers.

QFT. Maggie and Glenn were more useless than Wheelie and Daniel.

Posters like these 2 rocket scientists are the reason those who didn't like the movie get such a bad name.

Only if your perspective begins in the 80s. I mean surely you're not forgetting Max Fleischer's "Superman" cartoons and the like?

Nostalgia is a better illusionist than David Blaine. I'm fairly certain children today will in 20 years be making the same statements about Ben 10 and Teen Titans.

Don't fool yourselves. Transformers was not (and arguably IS not) important culturally. You're overestimating the weight of the fandom. It wasn't particularly ground-breaking in terms of animation, story-telling, or any real measure of literary excellence. It was not and is not intended to be. What it IS intended to do is to sell toys, and the fact that a fandom got accidentally created and continues to buy the toy long past their date of expiration is simply a bonus for Hasbro, who when Transformers finally end their toy run will simply go on to produce another unrelated line.

The point is that you can't go back and look at the G1 cartoon as a fan with any level of objectivity. It's simply impossible to do, because there's no way you can look at it without nostalgia and your own personal bias clouding your evaluation of it. No one fan on these boards can say whether or not the series "holds up" because we're influenced by our love for the franchise and our initial impressions (formed when we were quite young no less) of the source material.

As for Bay's comments, they have been stripped of all context--intentionally, I might add, because those who post them wish to use them to rally others against Bay--and are useless for further pontification. The basic point, as I understand it, is that a strict frame-for-frame translation of MTMTE would not work for various reasons. There IS a lot of silliness and childishness in G1, and no director in his right mind, not even Uwe Boll I'd imagine, would want to bring it to the silver screen.

Anyway...for the rest of this argument, please see the TKOs posted by Kickback and Twin Twist.

Yea some of the actors really got stuck with some bad rolls so it would have been hard to judge their acting skill just from the movie. I've seen Anthony Anderson in several things and I like him as an actor just not his part in the movie.

Given the rather playful nature of Megan Fox in some recent magizine shots I sort of hope they do something better with her character since we know her character is returning.
