Nice pic, but not enough purple. It exposes the flaws in the paint schemes they chose, as in they stopped painting Gavly and Cyc half way through and figured they didn't want to waste any more paint so plane plastic was enough to release them. I difinately think this pic shows they need some more purple on them. I rather like TF:TM color schemes. Wish I could say the same here.

This toy's neat. Lack of bicep swivels is a shame but Nightrod and Cyc's otherwise-solid robot mode more than make up for it.

Do any of the rest of you have a problem with the tip of the nosecone tending to slide back in?

Nope, it's the same on the unpainted release.

It does a little on the pre-release version, but the fully painted version I have is almost too tight.

I was wondering, could we see some more pictures of the second version of Nightstick? Cyclonus isn't THAT different (I think he might even be identical in robot mode), but Nightstick's paint scheme is significantly changed.

Peaugh could say for sure, but I'm pretty sure that Nightstick's color change is entirely in the molded plastic color, not a coat of paint. The majority of Nightstick and Cyclonus's nosecone seem to be a sprue unto themselves.

Yeah you nailed it right there. I'm almost positive that Nightstick's torso, upper arms, and legs are on the same sprue as the forward nosecone piece. They just pumped the dark purple plastic into it instead of the beige stuff and voila!

I'll snap some pics later on.

Someone I think at Allspark had suggested that Nightstick may have been so isolated to make it more practical to gate off one side or the other of the tooling, maybe keeping options open for reusing Nightstick as somebody else's Targetmaster later on. But given the sole difference between "pre-release" and retail versions of this toy is Nightstick and the nosecone being the dark purple they basically have to be the same sprue. Made a really easy identifier error without screwing with most of the toy. And in my opinion quite an attractive variant! :thumb

Well, change 'paint scheme' to 'color scheme', it doesn't really affect my question.

But... wouldn't that leave them with extra nosecone bits?

Not necessarily. If it's just those parts on the sprue (and it seems to be the case) they could likely block any plastic flow to the nosecone bit on the mold. I like having both versions. The purple/black one is cool, but the beige version looks good as well.

Right, that's what it means to gate off the mold. Although they can recycle the plastic that would form the nosecone after the fact, it's cheaper if they can just isolate the undesired portion. This is believed to have been done with reuses of Armada molds that didn't include the partner Mini-Cons, just for one example.

I have to admit, most of the reason I bought this Cyclonus is because I wanted the substantially different Nightstick. But I do like how Cyclonus looks with the warm grey nosecone, too.

The beige one made an excellent And His Armada, for me. And yeah, I think Nightstick/Rod looks great in both colourschemes.

All that said, damn I paid too much. :lol
