If this is true, it ruins the whole point of why Veidt's plan would work. He chose something "alien" for a reason.

LOL, nice attempted swerve there by Snyder, trying to get people to focus on famous lines from the book. Not having the disaster be an apparent alien is a massive misstep.
I can only assume that the new ending involves using the power of love and then everyone at the ice fortress links arms together and skips off into the sunset.
Or maybe they'll pull a Wanted, and Alan Moore will walk in at the last minute, not say a word and just star for a really long, bloated pause, shake his head and say "fuck the lotta ya." and walk off. Fade to black, credits. Oscar nomination? I think so.
Agreed. But maybe his 'elegant solution' is giant alien spaceship death rays or somesuch. There are ways it could be done without the squid, but still alien, thus keeping the same tone/effect. I gotta believe that having apparently gotten so much right that they won't fuck it up by having NYC just simply get nuked. That's just...irreconcilable.
