Am I the only one who wonders. . . What the hell is a mighty Mugg? I know they are little statue like things. Pretty much unbobbling bobble heads. But where did they come from and why are they taking over and being printed with all sorts of franchise imagery?

It's Hasbro's sweet way of cashing in on the vinyl toy crazy that most hipster kids seem to be into. Go to Urban Outfitters or read Juxtapoz magazine and you'll see half of the time there is some random modern artist making a little limited edition vinyl today that he/she painted and sell it for outrageous prices. Kidrobot is a good example of companies like these. So I guess in order to make more money Hasbro decided t take what usually an original and quirky endeavor and put franchised characters on them. Frankly I'm usually opposed to corporate moves like this, but I love these figures.

It is Hasbro riding the coat-tails of what is called 'Urban Vinyl". Little Vinyl toys that first started popping up in Japan. The have been around for quite some time but here is a link with some prime examples myplasticheart :: Designer Toys, Art Toys, Urban Vinyl Toys & Art Culture

I'm surprised you got that statement out between sips of double soy macchiato no whip, jazz fusion critiques and adjustments of your beret.

Those are great for those who are fans of Mighty Muggs. I'm not one of them though.

incidently I am drinking a machiatto and discussing avant garde jazz metal country fusion at starbucks! But I digress what I meant is that Im not a fan of the commodization of underground art/musical/film movements. Music is the best, case in point the screamo explosion after bands like thursday and thrice in the early 00's. After the naturally developed sound and style became popular labels rushed to sign anyone that sounded the same this giving us bands like Hawthorne heights, metro station, etc. My point being when the big guns get a hold of it, it's usually cheapened, but in this case it's so rad it don't matter. Now I'm gonna go adjust my beret. (I'm trying to be funny not a dick just FYI, :p )

I'm ghlad you picked up on the sarcasm. Yeah, I feel the same way about the bastardization of franchises by Hollywood. My prime motivator for becoming a screen writer is the steady stream of poop that seems to trickle out of California film making between the odd quality movie.

So Bumblebee gets his set of "horns", but Prime and Soundwave get theirs drawn on? That seems unusual.

Interesting. I might pick up Megatron if I see these in person, but I need to save money for more important stuff right now and they aren't really my thing.

Maybe they had extra budget to mold those on, since Bumblebee doesn't have any accessories?

Cute enough to pick up off the shelf and look at, not fun enough to take to the register and buy.

Probably that, and because he has shorter legs than the others. Dunno, though. What I do know however, is that they are cute and I want them.

They look alright. I'll probably just pick up Prime and Megatron. UNLESS THEY COME OUT WITH JAZZ!

That's a good thought... if that's indeed the case, I'd have preferred to see the figure itself represented as faithfully as possible, and the accessories done away with entirely if necessary.

I know these have quite a following... they don't do anything for me personally, though.
