Yeah, thinking about it, I'm guessing snipers don't normally work with an audience. But I can't see Cliffjumper taking the time to line a shot up. As seen in MTMTE, he's more the type to pull the trigger the second he sees the target.
Yeah, Bluestreak may be a gunner, but he's never been described as a particularly accurate shooter. I'd see his role as more of a rearguard, offering supporting fire to the point guys.
Well snipers are probably like that because they know how they work, it's unnerving to deal with those thoughts when not sitting at the trigger i'd guess. And yeah, Cliffjumper definitely does not do as a sniper ^^ With some training i guess BW Rattrap could have a go at it, he was quite good in the accuracy department at times (like the Ark defense turret he took out). He may be more of a spy and saboteur, but hey, could come in handy ^^
Yeah... Sureshot. And Crosshairs too... a pure bang-on sniper if you read his bio (plus he's got an awesome quote). Both Targetmasters of course. I've never been quite sure where Stepper/Ricochet fits into the canon, but he's supposedly a crack shot. And of course, there's Mirage and Jazz, but it doesn't seem like their primary gimmick. zmog
tfu.info has Artfire listed as an Autobot Sniper, but no accompanying bio... OT, has anyone noticed almost all the Targetmasters look nothing like their toys in the cartoon or comic books(face and helmet wise)?
I never actually said Cliffy was a sniper, just that he had a giant-ass sniper cannon. I don't recall any other times (in the G1 series at least) that involved such a "sniper" type moment.
A lot of military snipers are like that but most of us police snipers are not. I guess its because we don't have to deal with it all the time like military guys do.
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Armada Blur. He certainly comes off as a Sniper. I believe in Car Robots, Shuttler also sniped from orbit on one occasion. It's been a while though so I may not remember that scene exactly.
I definitely wouldn't peg Sureshot as a sniper. He's got the skills, but not the patience. Like Treadshot, he's a dead shot, but he comes across as too 'quick on the draw' to be an actual sniper. With the right circumstances, though, I'm sure he could do the job if required. It's just not his speciality. Crosshairs, again, not his speciality (as he seems to be more of an engineer and armourer), but it definitely seems that he'd make a good sniper when required. I'm not sure about Ricochet. He's stated as being a dead shot (tin can @ 10km seems pretty impressive to me), but his function describes him as a Rapid Fire Attack specialist. Seems kind of at cross-purposes to me.
RiD Spychanger Mirage is a sniper, unless I remember it wrong. And just repeating the Robot Masters Smoke Sniper being a sniper.
I imagine it would also have something to do with police snipers being brought in for special ops in non-military situations... ie: no opposing army... they are the predators, the endgamers, only used as a last resort. Military snipers in the field probably have to worry more about turnabout, getting pinned down by enemies or stuck on their own, and becoming the prey. Thought I would expect that the act of plucking someone's life from long range with a casual flick of the finger, but having a front row seat through a telescopic lens, would probably give anybody some issues. Or at least I would HOPE it would. I only read Stepper's version of the bio, which didn't use that wording... so yeah, I guess he seems like more of a gunslinger if he's the both-guns-blazing type. However, I'd still say Sureshot is probably a sniper. His function of "sharpshooter" would seem to confirm it. His bio says he likes to show off, and has an arrogant confidence, but nothing about him being too anxious to be adequate at his job. I guess it's all in how you read into the wording of the bio. For me the comments about his ego suggest a guy with the god complex one might expect from an elite sniper. On the other hand, everything about Crosshairs (even his name and quote) suggests the traditional sniper mentality... calm, cautious, never wastes a shot. He's a "weapons supervisor" which is a vague title, but nothing to suggest that he's a mere engineer. The only flaw in my logic is that his Targetmaster partner is a grenade launcher... LOL! "Hey... he's our best shot, a careful, precise marksman. Give him the frag blooper!" zmog
Unless you're Blast Off. I think if the Autobots need a sniper, Sureshot is the guy they'd go to; his Dreamwave bio actually says he's the best marksman of all the Autobots, and that only Treadshot is better. I agree that the wording on his style is a little ambiguous; my impression is that he's less prone to spending time aiming, and he's just naturally a crack shot. But yes, as I said, if called upon to do it, he'd be the best sniper they have. I half-made up the engineer part of Crosshairs, but it's because of the combination of his function (Weapons Supervisor) with his cautious nature, like he's protective of the weapons under his care. This makes me think of him as the guy who looks after the Autobots' weapons when they're not in use, keeping them safe and in good working order. The bio says he won't fire till he's sure he can't miss, but there's no indication of how often that happens. That said, he's probably not that bad. He may not be on Sureshot's level, but I daresay if there's a list of potential Autobot snipers anywhere, he's probably somewhere near the top of it.
