i think this is news, which is why i'm posting it!

LOS ANGELES, CA, September 30, 2008 – IMAX Corporation (NASDAQ: IMAX; TSX: IMX), DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures today announced that director Michael Bay will shoot key sequences of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with IMAX® cameras. Bay will integrate the IMAX footage with state of the art CGI to create an unprecedented look and feel for the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s box office hit, Transformers. As previously announced, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be released to IMAX® theatres simultaneously with the movie’s wide release on June 26, 2009.

The movie sequences shot in traditional 35mm will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The IMAX DMR scenes will appear in the traditional “letterbox” shape, while scenes shot with IMAX’s cameras will expand vertically to fill the entire IMAX screen.

“The extraordinary level of detail and intensity captured by the IMAX camera creates many exciting possibilities for us with this film,” said Michael Bay, the film’s director. “IMAX’s all-encompassing format will take this story to a new level, and I am once again very excited to share The IMAX Experience with Transformers fans around the world.”

“The addition of another amazing title from DreamWorks and Paramount, combined with more groundbreaking use of IMAX technology by Hollywood’s top filmmakers, are examples of how far we have come as a company and a distribution platform over the past several years,” said IMAX Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler. “The growth of the IMAX theatre network, fueled by the economical benefits of the new IMAX digital system, is driving interest from virtually all of the top studios, which is resulting in more IMAX movies for audiences to enjoy.”

“Michael Bay’s innovative use of IMAX cameras will create a spectacular cinematic adventure for moviegoers next summer,” added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “We’re very excited to be integrated as a core part of the Transformers production, and with the skilled marketing and distribution teams at DreamWorks and Paramount, the timing is ideal given our expanding global audience and network footprint.”

Sounds similar to what they did with The Dark Knight.

Gah, makes me sad that the closest IMAX is several thousand kilometres away.

I was wondering about this. It's one thing to FILM in Imax and it's another to project a normal film in a IMAX theater. God I cannot wait. Everyone in the theater gasped during the opening seconds of TDK.

TF2: ROTF will be filmed for IMAX? And I hadn't had the chance to see the first one at IMAX. Of course, it doesn't help matters much that the closest IMAX theatre to me would be in Ypsilanti, MI... and I'm not familiar with Ypsi as much as I am with Ann Arbor.

I think the best part of this is that micheal bay will be forced to not have so much of his shakey cam that he loves so much.

You said it. Mind you, knowing Mr Bay he'll find some way to go all spazzy hand-held even with a giant IMAX rig...:(

    Oh, sweet!

Even though they didn't add anything really of consequence in the first IMAX release, it was a blast watching it on that screen. I can only imagine how exciting it'll be to see it when it's partially shot FOR that screen.

I guess I can be considered lucky. I live about a hundred kilometers from Ottawa, where there is an IMAX theater there at one of the museums.

Shakey cam was fine in the first film. It was the framing of the robots/ILM's motion blur that sucked.

Also even though it was on a regular screen the IMAX scenes of the Dark Knight still gave me vertigo lol

That is absolutely correct. Not a lot of people are aware of this because actually alot of movies are presented in IMAX but the black bars are still at the top and bottom. The screen is of course much larger but there are not that many films that were actually filmed using IMAX cameras.

The only one that comes to mind is Dark Knight. And that was awesome!

It mentions that Michael Bay WILL BEE shooting at least 3 action scenes in IMAX, does that mean he hasn't done it already? Because there's roughly 2 weeks of filming left.

I've seen the following movies in IMAX. Does anyone remember if any of the ones listed below were actually filmed in IMAX so that it takes up the entire screen?

    Matrix Revolutions
    Star Wars Episode 2: AOTC
    300
    Spider-Man 2
    Transformers
    I Am Legend
    Beowulf

this reinforces my belief that this film is going to be "too much". honestly with what information we have, i'm really getting a Spiderman 3 vibe. and Spiderman 3 sucked.

I was thinking the same thing, but on the bright side this movie doesn't (or shouldn't) have too many subplots going.
    Transformers 2=
1.Autobots vs Decepticons (Maybe the Fallen joining in)
    2.Sam with college trouble
    3. Military getting in the way of Transformers

    Spiderman 3=
    1.Black Costume
    2.Tension with Harry
    3.Tension with MJ
    4.Tension with Eddie
    4.Spiderman vs Sandman
    5.Spiderman vs Venom
    6.Spiderman vs GG2

Since there's not too many individual antagonists in TF2 if a story is present, it should flow a smoother than Spiderman 3.....I hope :inquisiti
