Long story short, I am re-furnishing my guest room (now that my brother finally moved out!) and never one to do things by halves, decided to give the collection room a makeover as well. This is my current setup: Not very exciting, no? And especially after my brothers three gremlins (read:children) stayed a weekend while I was conveniently away.... I come back to find my display shelves completely TRASHED. So now I need some ideas! The shelf units already present will stay (the comics section will remain mostly unchanged) but the computer desk is definitely going. Fortunately, the 2009 IKEA catalog just dropped in my mailbox today, so now I'm looking at fan-favourite DETOLF display cases amongst other things. Any other cool or clever (and not TOO expensive) ideas for collection showcasing?
couldn't agree more, get clear display racks like ikea detolf, add lights, a few clear tf figs here and there...just amazing
I like the Billy bookcases from Ikea. Add glass doors and shelves. They are larger and more versatile than the Detolfs, but they aren't glass all the way around.
That is actually a pretty good idea! I never even considered the bookcases because they didn't have glass shelves, but I see IKEA now have those available too. Also, you can fit a lot more figures in the bookcases than the Detolf cases
Just be sure to get many of the same type of shelves you are buying, it gives a unifrom look and helps keeping order.
Here's a pic from my room to give you an idea of what it looks like. The room isn't big enough for me to stand back and get a full shot of the shelves, but I think you get the point. And I can't really take credit for thinking of this. Someone else on here did it in the collections thread with black bookcases, but I can't remember who.
Those wider cases look a lot more versatile than those extremely narrow Detolf cabinets. I want to be able to display an entire line (say Cybertron) on one shelf.
