Just got out of the movie and I really only have 1 complaint that may get resolved in the next one. Spoiler Miguel's assertion that Miles is the original anomaly is technically false. Spot (before becoming Spot) created the original anomaly by bringing the spider from 42 to 1610. Miles isn't the reason for the anomaly, Spot is.
Spoiler I honestly feel like they're setting Miguel up to have everything he thinks and believes about all of this and his role in it to be torn apart when his ass finally gets handed to him. On one hand, after watching the film I'm kind of rooting for everyone to just curb-stomp this version of Miguel because he's a bigger dick bag than the comic version ever acted like. On the other hand, he's like my second favorite Spider-Man from the comics so seeing him act like such a grade-A asshole is rough.
Fooled me I guess. Lots of mushy Picasso faces and weird disjointed lettering looked just like what AI does to me.
Totally feel ya on that Spoiler wasn't expecting my favorite spidey, Ben Riley, to be quite so melodramatic. Wasn't he the more well adjusted between him and Peter, least till theu started resurrecting him as a villain?
Spoiler Yeah, this take on Ben was a bit odd too. Of course none of these guys are supposed to be their comic counterparts so I guess I can't be too surprised if they take liberties with them. Like, Peter B. is definitely a pretty unique take on Peter Parker in general as well.
Spoiler Think ben is spoofing 90s heroes. Dark and gritty heroes who are moody. He talks about his troubles than does his own darkwing duck (also spoofing heroes at the time) narrating out load. He is poking fun of the 90s comics.
Spoiler I'm hoping by setting up his tragic backstory of losing his "daughter" that it's pointing to him either helping or coming to understand Miles in a kickass way. It has to right? Before his encounter with Miles they played Miguel off as a crotchety generally stand up dude, so hopefully it's in the cards.
Forgot to share my thoughts, saw it Friday and chefs kiss. Like the first a little more but still what a picture. Also even for a couple of seconds was happy to see Spectacular Spidey (my childhood) again and damn is he tiny lmao. The animation is amazing as expected, lot of love put into this. Spoiler I don't know much minus the basics on Ben Riley but I'm glad I wasn't the only one that didn't care for him. Get what they were trying to do but found it a little cringe personally. Also that ending... I got so happy when I saw Spider-Ham and Noir were back. Cannot wait for Beyond The Spider-Verse. Spoiler Definitely has to, at some point in the next film, we will likely and hopefully see after a scuffle and words, see 2099 team up with Miles to fight The Spot and see his points.
So have a theory about next film. What if-- Spoiler Miles saves his dad--only for the mom to die instead keeping the canon!
Spoiler That wouldn't work, Rio isn't a police captain and the whole "canon" event is that a police captain close to Spider-Man dies saving a child from falling debris
Spoiler Madam Web should have appeared in this. In turns of destiny vs free will she'd be a better choice as an antagonist IMO.
Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse Hired 14-Year-Old Boy as Animator - Variety Mutanga is a 14-year-old from Toronto, Canada, who landed a role as an animator on “Across the Spider-Verse” after he recreated the film’s trailer shot-for-shot in the style of LEGO blocks and left producers Chris Lord and Phil Miller dazzled (via The New York Times). Not too bad for your industry debut.
Saw some people discussing what kind of music Spider-Punk would listen to. They came out with Carti and Death Grips. Bro, what part of Spider-PUNK do you not understand? His ass listens to the Ramones, Dead Kennedys, the Clash, Black Flag, and an underground band called "The Death Titties" that sucks and he blasts it all the time in the car and everyone else begs him to turn it the fuck off.
Interesting tidbit I noticed. Minor spoilers. Spoiler When Gwen dials Peter B. Parker's universe into her watch, it shows up as "E-616B." Similarly, although Miles is said to be from Earth-1610, when Ultimate Tarantula shows up, it says he's from "Earth-1610A". I'd assume this means that Peter B is from a variant of Earth-616 that is identical to it up to a certain point, I'd say around Clone Saga. Similarly, Miles may be from a variant of the Ultimate Universe that is identical to it up to a certain point. It should be assumed that comics 616 is Earth-616A, and Miles is from Earth-1610B. The Gwen of this movie would be from Earth-65B, so on and so forth. I'd say all the film's notable speaking characters are from variant universes(Earth-50101B, Earth-138B, Earth-928B) except for the background cameo characters(Spidercide, Spinneret/Spiderling, Webslinger/Widow, Lady Spider, Sun-Spider, etc) are just straight-up the comics versions of those characters.
Yeah, gatekeeping someone liking a song just because they first heard it in a movie trailer is a really weird flex. As if not hearing it on the radio/streaming first or already being a fan of the band somehow makes you less of a fan. Seriously I honestly have to wonder what is wrong with some of the board members around here.
Metallica addressed this mentality really well when Master of Puppets was used in Stranger Things and introduced new fans to the band. Gotta give them a lot of respect for the reaction they had to someone trying to gatekeep.
