I… don’t mind the head? In fact I actually like it. The only thing I’d change is not having such carved, sharp cheekbones. And maybe making the jaw green instead of silver. Animated Bulkhead’s design will always be my preference over Prime Bulkhead, and that green jaw would look more Animated.

I do still agree with the person who said in the Inferno thread that Bulkhead’s legs should be stubbier, and that the lankiness of the Inferno mold doesn’t suit him. But it doesn’t bother me too much.

I posted that before finishing. It still barely looks like bulkhead. Bulkhead has forever skipped leg day, inferno with so long legs doesn't work.

This looks pretty awesome! I like the fact that his chin is an actual chin, like in Animated. A nice callback. I agree that it should be green, however.

To me it works as well for Bulkhead as a Prowl repaint works for Movie Barricade. Both are, to me, not so much accurate depictions of the characters in their source material as they are “what would they have looked like in G1” thought experiments; when the artists would have gone for less stylized proportions than later incarnations of the franchise. And through that lens, an Inferno/Grapple repaint for Bulkhead makes as much sense as anything else.

(Although if I really try to game out what a G1 Bulkhead would have been, I picture a Headmaster… because of his Headmaster plotline in Animated. Which… would actually make him too close to Hardhead… I dunno…)

would you rather have a "G1" bulkhead or a figure from Animated or Prime?

I can understand why some people prefer that way. Although I prefer having them in one thread, I think none of them is the perfect solution.

About Umibozu alone, I can still see many people keep sharing their recently got figures on NA's Cyclonus thread many months after release. On the other hand, while H24 SG Megatron and H23B Straxus have their own threads, many people avoid those threads and post on the original H23 thread photos of their H24 and H23B.
And not only Newage, there are other figures from other brands even get each thread for each of their repaints. Those often end up in 5 or 6-page threads (some even has only 1-2 pages), which is often more tired to follow than having all in one.

My preferred solution is to keep them in one thread, and update the 1st post with photos of all versions. It's more work for the thread creator, though.
I also find the Master threads are quite useful for these purposes. When I can't find information of a figure, I often ask and many people answered quickly with link to its respective thread.

For this line, a G1 Bulkhead. It’s a what-if scenario, and (to me) fun to see him standing alongside the classic cast.

Now if they start a dedicated line of Legends Prime figure or Legends Animated (pleeeease) figures, then yes, for those I would 100% want accurate versions of those Bulkheads. This is just a different animal. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

For me the separate threads makes more sense just with how the search function on this forum works. If someone new comes along and they want to search for options for a character having them listed in a thread title makes it much easier to find them. If that ends up with a short thread that is little used that is fine, people will use the thread they want, but making searching easier is a higher priority for me. No one looking for Depth Charge is going to look in a Cyclonus thread. If they happen to know Umibozu's name that is one thing, but if they can only search Depth Charge the odds of finding it are just too small.

    G1

If they were to all go in a single thread, and that was the only thread for them, and it's multiple characters represented by that thread, then the thread name would need to be updated to reflect the added characters (in this case changing the thread name from NA Inferno & Grapple to NA Inferno, Grapple & Bulkhead) to facilitate searching

    This exactly

It's the same head, just a better picture

Yes, that's one of some benefits of it. But there are also other benefits of having them all in one thread.
For examples, if I'm searching NA Cyclonus and its repaints that I didn't know yet, it's better to see them showing in 1 thread; Or just jumping between some toon Cyclonus threads, came to that thread and then be surprised of seeing so many repaints, remolds all showing in the 1st page, even seeing Umibozu that I wasn't expected and would never search for, that'd also be nice. etc.

Yes, that would be great: 1 thread, a proper title with all versions included. The only downside is that only Mods can modify thread titles. I wish this option will also be available for thread creators, which I find quite reasonable and less work for Mods. (Please @Black Convoy !)

Anyway, just my 2 cents, everybody has their own preferences, I'd be glad if there is a option that suits all, too.

While I like the weird G1 Bulkheads and usually buy them, I do really want to see some real Animated and Prime Bulkys.

Even if there is a separate thread there is no reason it can't be included in the original thread as well for what you are talking about. Honestly both would probably be best to have as many resources as possible for people.

Of course with only a few exceptions people forget they are the one who started a thread and it is on them to update the first post so it ends up falling on Mods to add the pictures to it as well. There are quite a few threads where the 1st post is largely barren. Like below I occasionally do request for mods to update a 1st post, but I don't want to overdo it.

I do "Report" the first post of threads from time to time asking for them to be updated to improve them, but since it is a burden to Mods I try not to overdo it.

Another head vs body clash of styles on Bulkhead, go figure.

I know this is inspired by fan art, but there was a box truck version of the Mitsubishi chassis that Grapple and Inferno are. It's actually more true to life than their fictionalized variations.

If people are gonna insist on making G1 Bulkheads for whatever reason, find a mold that actually works for him, cuz inferno aint it. And why does he have a mouth under his jaw?

I haven't gotten around to watching Animated yet, but based on this image Fenrys posted last page I assume it is correct for the character.

It isn't, because as you can see in the gif, his jaw is the lower part of his mouth. There's no face below his mouth, unlike Newage's design where the jaw is more like a chin strap with the mouth sitting well above it.
