    The rewatch of old classics instead of new ones continues. Today was Raiders of the lost Ark. Ah, that was a great movie. Fun adventure with enjoyable characters. Last crusade tomorrow. Skipping over temple.

    @4249david,
    "It is a magnificent pass by Fred to find a way through the Fulham defence"

    He's showing all the tricks in his locker today, a cheeky bobble, a proper assist, what's next? :D

    EDIT,
    He's been substituted before he can do any damage....to either side :D

    Would have been nice, but if he wants to do it in the FA Cup Final there's a chance at immortality because if they stop City from winning the Treble all past misdemeanours will be forgotten*

    Agreed!

    Good to win, 3rd place taken. Less games in pre season against random teams...

    3rd place, a trophy and a final for ETH's first season isn't bad whatever happens this coming Saturday especially after the state he found them in and then having to deal with all the Ronaldo drama.

    If the sale goes through and it's the Qatari lad there's reason to go into next season with a bit of hope, less excited about INEOS as it'd mean the Glazers are still involved and recent reports of protests at Nice including their captain going public about problems suggests Sir Jim might not be the saviour he wants fans to believe.

    Elsewhere,
    Leeds are relegated so Big Sam won't get his survival bonus of a 5 year deal with Fray Bentos :p

    If you ever need any more army builders give me a shout as I have the following in a box doing nothing due to losing the war for space on my shelves to MOTU Origins and Masterverse,

    Cobra Trooper/Infantry x 4
    Cobra Officer x1
    Alley Viper x2
    B.A.T. x2

    All loose and complete in pretty much as new condition.

    @Seeaich,
    No problem!

    @Astro-Furby,
    £20 shipped per figure?

    I'd raise that for ebay but don't mind doing that here.

    Thinking about it I also have a Viper as well as the others I mentioned in my previous post.

    After a heads up from @Siege Fan I now have a Masterverse Roboto on the way from Bezos as £21.99 is suitably reduced enough for me to have a crack at the Revelation version whilst I wait and see if they do a New Eternia one that's at least partially inspired by 200x.

    @Astro-Furby,
    Cool, just send me a PM when you're ready and we can sort something out!

    "The Invasion of Time" closes out Dr Who series 15 fairly well.

    The story opens with the Doctor appearing to a do a deal with some shadowy aliens to be their inside man and help them overthrow the Time Lord Council and take control of Gallifrey.

    The early parts where the Doctor is still playing along and acting like a villain must have been fun for Tom Baker as he got to be as grumpy onscreen as he was off it by this point in his run :D

    The Doctor's behaviour is eventually revealed to be a ruse which he is able to admit to his mentor Borusa after working out how to block the telepathy of the race that he's pretending to work with, a militaristic bunch called the Vardans who're initially seen as shadowy figures wearing some sort of crinkly material, then reveal themselves to be generic humans who're quickly offed by the real threat....the Sontarans!!!!

    Budgetary constraints mean that the planetary invasion force is limited to Commander Stor and 3 minions who don't remove their helmets but it's one of those things where you just have to go with it as they didn't have CGI to make massive armies at the drop of a hat.

    One of the best parts of the story is a journey into the depths of the TARDIS which partially gets played for laughs as there's a several sequences where the Doctor is clearly going in circles but keeps changing the designation of the corridor to try and convince Leela and co they're making progress :D

    There's also more of the political machinations of the Time Lord Council that was touched on in "The Deadly Assassin" and the impression that's given is that Time Lords are just as open to corruption as their human counterparts, if not moreso because of the power at their disposal.

    The worst part is Leela's departure, having her randomly fall in love with a Gallifreyan guard was a terrible idea as it was so out of character.

    If she'd gone to live with the tribe in the Gallifreyan wastelands that was also in the story it would have made much more sense.

    Series 16 starts with "The Ribos Operation".

    Mer-Man was too afraid to look again, but he was quite sure he had seen a man out there.

    Don't look round, thought Mer-Man.jpg

    Still very much into Masterverse, and the Origins vehicles to go with it.

    Haven't actually bought any figures since seeing the fishy fellow above on clearance, but got the Wind Raider for 14 bob shipped and it may soon be time to think about adding another character or two...

    ...if only TFs weren't so expensive! If only everything wasn't so expensive...

    Anyway this chariot of the sky is great fun, looks nicer than I was expecting too! My mate had one when I was a kid, never thought I'd actually own a version.

    "The Ribos Operation" opened the 16th series of Dr Who and has a first in the form of an ongoing story arc as the Doctor is tasked by the White Guardian to search for the Key To Time, an artifact that has been split into 6 pieces across time and space and needs reassembling before shit hits the fan.

    The Doctor is also warned of the Black Guardian who's after the Key for more nefarious purposes and is given a new assistant fresh from the Academy on Gallifrey in the form of Romana, who initially seems like she's going to be the sort of smug, all knowing, impossibly perfect character that hacks like Kevin Smith think is a good depiction of female empowerment but thankfully she's much better than that.

    Whilst it's quickly established that she has a higher intellect than the Doctor on academic matters it's also shown that she's not got the instincts the Doctor has developed over centuries of travelling the universe so there's plenty they can learn from each other and whilst their dynamic starts off as adversarial they grow to trust each other and become a decent team.

    Whilst I'd already stopped watching at that point I thought it was laughable when they did the gender swapping in the modern show because if they wanted a female Time Lord to take the lead they could have had the Doctor go missing and Romana could have returned to search for him for a series or two....it practically writes itself.

    Likewise the Master should have been left alone and the Rani brought back but that makes too much sense for the modern BBC because it's using previously established characters and would have meant they couldn't posture about things that entertainment companies seem to prioritise during the past decade or so, even when the evidence suggests it's bad for business :rolleyes:

    Robert Holmes was brought in to handle the heavy lifting at the start of this arc and he effortlessly knocked out a story that sets everything up and tells a decent tale in it's own right.

    There's an exchange between the Doctor, the main villain and another character at the start of part 3 that's as good as anything Holmes ever wrote and what had to have been an ad lib from Tom (You can almost see the thought pop into his head) is the icing on the cake.

    As is typical of the writer there are some great characters starting with the Graff Vynda-K, a deposed former dictator of a planet who's trying to raise an army to retake his throne.....future "House of Cards" director Paul Seed plays it mostly straight and he's given some great dialogue and whilst playing it mostly straight there's an unhinged nature to the character that allows for some scenery chewage especially right at the end when he completely loses his mind.

    Robert Keegan plays his grizzled general Sholakh who's also very good but Iain Cuthbertson steals it as intergalactic con artist Garron and is bleedin' fantastic, the twinkle never vanishes from his eye and he was so funny it looks like Tom was trying hard not to crack up laughing at various points.

    Honourable mentions go to Nigel Plaskitt as Garron's young sidekick Unstoffe and Timothy Bateson's Binro, a fellow who was cast out from society because he believed there were other worlds than Ribos, which is a very primitive culture.

    In the hands of a less talented writer these characters would have been forgettable but they all get their moments and it helps the story no end because it keeps you invested.

    Another bit that made me laugh.

    Romana reveals her full name to be Romanadvoratrelundar.

    The Doctor is trying to lay down some ground rules for how he works and and says "Your name, it's too long. I'll call you Romana"

    "But I don't like Romana"

    "It's either Romana, or Fred"

    Fred in the TARDIS would have been epic! :D

    Next up is the first story from Douglas Adams, an absolute cracker called "The Pirate Planet".
