Hooooleeeee sheeeeiiitt that's a lot of awesomeness to look forward to! Really digging the bat, dragonfly and scorpion designs. Also, I didn't catch it – was this venue for a public reveal? Love that they did it in their "Beastbox showcase studio". I suppose 52Toys has made so many figures compatible with Dianauts, they finally realized "Hey, maybe we oughta do our own version!" Seems like a lot of people are dumping on the official reveal of BB-52. It's the Seinfeld or Game of Thrones finale: they were never going to meet everyone's expectations, no matter what they did. I like it. It's an awesome figure design, and the color scheme is REALLY good: sort of a "royal guard" vibe. And, let's not look past the fact that that thing turns into a cube: if nothing else, it's a definitive statement on the incredibly complex figure designs they're able to extract from that one basic shape.
I’m super excited for the Kirin-unicorn retool, I love the colors and new sculpting. It’s a little reminiscent of the Battle Unicorn repaint “Magna Stampede.” Also I now regret passing on the black/purple Kirin repaint since it would make a nice yin yang pairing with the unicorn.
Yeah, it's certainly impressive, but they were holding back on that for so long, I'm sure no one would've minded if they just made it a different number, and pulled forth a 7 cm dio or a new jojo, something. I think their big mistake was hyping it up. Had they just made it a normal release, people would've grumbled, but moved on. By holding out on 52 for this long, it's sparked curiosity, and thus dissapointment followed when expectations were met Tye figure looks good though; no question about that
I think I see where you're coming from now. Even though they've created a 1.5 Dio and Mega Dio or if they release a hypothetical 3.0, the original is not getting replaced or retired and is still the default Dio/mascot. I can dig that. As far as the art book is concerned, even though it has concept art/pics and pre-production notes, I've been operating under the assertion that 52toys consider it an encyclopedia. I should do the same and "read" it and see what it's about. I agree that it's full of cool stuff and I'm glad I nabbed one. I'd love to see a volume two released in the future with another zodiac Dio.
Heads up: Sale at USA Gudam Store USAGS - Gundam Models, Gunpla Models, Star Wars Nendoroids Kotobukiya . A lot of BBs are out of stock but some nice deals, too. Use code MEM15 to take 15% off. Was able to get Hot Tub Jojo and Deep One Elite for $53 shipped.\ I concede your point. Even Mega-Dio's card hints that it could be Dio, but I still don't see him as replacing Dio, at least as I mean the term (and we may be talking different things here). I was thinking more Megatron/Galvatron - one toy gone, replaced by another that takes its place in the line's ecosystem. Dio was not retired like Delta, Jojo, and Moma. His mold is still in use, or at least the 1.5 version is, as evidenced by the Rabbit and Mint releases. AFAIK he is still being used as the mascot using the same old design. And while both are therapod dinos, Dio and MegaDio are not the same kind of dino, and Dio is meant to be carried by Mega. To me that's a partner, not a replacement or upgrade. Disappointing. I was hoping to prefer the new versions, but I prefer the first. Still haven't pulled the trigger on any of the BD toys.
I didn't have high expectations, just expectations in line with what had been set. Given that they deliberately withheld BB-52's reveal from us and we've known about the Cameroceros for months through official reveals, it was perfectly reasonable to think they had something else in mind for that slot. I wasn't expecting something magical or extraordinary.
Disappointed with Cameroceros' colours. Would have preferred something more natural for the first release, like red or pink.
I quite like it. Also, we’ve had so many pink releases recently (owl, rabbit, pink Dio, flamingo), it’s good to get a little variety!
@Mister D thx for the heads up about USAGS. picked up a couple of BBs shipped for $54. shipping cost were higher than BBTS, but with the sale prices and extra 15% off, it was still significantly cheaper and a good deal!
I *think* I like the first raptor better, but it's close. (still haven't picked up a beast drive yet---I want the whale shark version for sure, regardless of colors, so still waiting on that---- but I also want to wait to see all the raptors before I choose which one of those)
Putting together a quick spreadsheet on the molds released in the Beastbox line. Looking for some thoughts on things: 1) What type of dinosaur would you call Dio, Ghost Dog, Mega Dio, and Acid Ghost. Right I just have them as “theropods” but that’s too vague. 2) I have pegged the three beetles as rhinocerous beetle = DemonDart, Atlas beetle = Nightcrawler, and Hercules beetle = Zephyr. Thoughts? 3) What kind of monkeys are the monkey team? Leaning towards macaque and tamarin. 4) How about the breeds of the dog team? 5) Do we have the designations past BB-58 (MortalCoil)? 6) Anyone know when Dio 1.5 was first released? Was Lithion the first “.5” version of the BB-02 mold?
1. I have Dio as a Tyrannosaurus and Ghostdog as a Carnotaurus on my spreadsheet, only because at one point 52toys had wording about various molds "prototypes" on their socials but stopped some time ago. That never felt right to because they seem more like some type of "raptor" to me, but I went with what 52 said. I gave up on Mega and just have that one listed as "TRex" . Another user on this thread suggested that Acidghost was a Dilophosaurus and that worked good enough for me. Because of the way I formatted my sheet, I'm stuck filling in a blank next to the BB-## on the top of the column. Here is a snip as an example: 2. I have them listed exactly the same on mine. I'm not sure if 52 ever made any official statements and I just went with my best guesses. 3. I've never really given this much thought. I feel one is sorta baboon-ish? I just list them as "BB-34 / Monkey Team". 4. Pure guesses on my part: Roarmeo & Boney are some type of doberman, Jawliet is some type of hound, bloodhound maybe?, Clawde is some bully breed, but also looks a little frenchie. But on my sheet, they are all under "BB-51 / Dog Team". 5. BB-59 are the goldfishes, I don't have anything on my sheet past that. 6. According to the google, Dio 1.5 was released "August 2019" (which I think was based off various retailer's release windows), but I couldn't find anything official. Helldiver was the first, followed by Shiniobi with Lithiumon pulling up the caboose
Thanks for your feedback. I'm sticking with tamarin for SoulTornado and macaque for Shadowdance for now. For the dogs, doberman for A & C, Hound for B, Bulldog for D. I don't know that I can get more specific with the second two. As for the therapod dinos, Dio's arms are too short to be a raptor and he lacks the sickle claw. Given the big head and tiny hands (despite its three fingers), I'll stick with T-rex. MegaDio's head is too small and arms too big to be a Tyrranosaur. Body build is somewhat more similar to older, less correct models of the spinosaur, but without the sail/hump. I think I'll just go with "therapod" until something more clear emerges. As for Ghost Dog and Acid Ghost... body builds are all wrong for Dilophosaurus or Guanlong, but those are the only therapods I can find with crests on their snouts. Lots with crests over their eyes, but does Ghost Dog even have eyes? Not a big deal, I'm not looking for accuracy to the actual animals, just fidelity to what the designers intended. They may have just wanted a cool dinosaur without being specific to any single species.
