“This exclusives program enabled us to get an OP into the line which
    wasn't initially allocated for.”

Is… is Optimus barely in the movie? Why was he not originally planned to be in the SS ROTB line and then squeezed in through a Target back door deal?

Probably because the concept art they had to work with may not have been different enough to the Bumblebee design to have been worth it. That could be why SS38 got a reissue. Really though, it’s a question you should pose to the marketing team.

Maybe since the original assumption was that he would be basically SS38 again they thought he wouldn’t sell as well? So pushing him to an exclusive so they could make one of the new characters made more sense?

I know I'm beating a dead horse by this point, but the Bot mode is damn near perfect. While the Truck mode on the other hand is very very rough. But now knowing more as to why? It's forgivable in my opinion. If they were able to do this with just a little over half of the tooling available at their disposal, then if this was a completely new mold then they could've easily wiped the floor with SS 38 & MPM 12 simultaneously.
    :lolol

I think the core issue was developing this alongside the Movie and releasing this Now, rather than later. Yeah yeah, Big Blockbuster needs as many toys as possible leading up to the release, I know. But that's kinda what Mainline is for? Mainline Prime already fills the spot for having a new Voyager scaled Optimus on the shelves to coincide with the film. He's not great looking, but he's not necessarily trying to be either. He's just a straightforward toy primarily for the kids to enjoy.

This on the other hand would've really benefited from being pushed back to next year. His design would have of course been finalized by then and likely would've been easy enough grounds to justify a completely new mold. As well as not having to be awkwardly shoved into Buzzworthy, like this poor fella was here.

Not only can it be removed, it can also be wielded as a hand-held sword.

Sam: we can further improve the design with a leader budget if they ever give him a trailer

I totally understand that there are high standards for Studio series figures (bc they've had a fairly good run at it so far) but it's honestly kinda hilarious when peoples' biggest gripe with SS38 were the "horrendous legs that can't stay together" and when they fixed it for SS102, people still complain. The kibble hangs off the cab because keeping it a single solid piece makes it more sturdy, otherwise, it'll just be flimsy like SS38, thus, no "fold in to conceal" part of transformation.
Considering the high expectations set, its understandable, but its also ridiculous for ridiculing them for trying their best to fix the issue while trying to keep within the budget (a thing ppl tend to forget when designing the figures, limitations keeps these things from being perfection). Criticizing will hopefully bring about better figures in the future, yes, but man ppl can be rough sometimes.

    That being said,
I feel like we should be this angry about the fact that that there's no trailer hitch? or the fact that truck bed is very uniquely designed, but this figure does not seem to take advantage of at all? It doesn't need to look like a normal truck (like SS38 successfully does), it just needed to look like the movie's truck. I'm not a huge truck guy but i've never seen this look on a truck anywhere else.

back to the whole high expectations thing, I think I'm just mostly upset it doesn't something look like this (I know, this is an unfair comparison, one is a transforming toy, the other is a diecast model replica but you get what I mean):

I know this guy had budget cuts, I know they didn\'t want to make the shins floppy, that doesn\'t mean that excuses it and it doesn\'t make me wrong for just not feeling it. Net personally, I don\'t understand why hasbro would make this an exclusive and chip at its budget. But the back of the cab, the way the feet fold away, and the shins just chudding off the back, they should\'ve just left the shins on the legs at that point. The feet on the mainline is obnoxious but not to this level. I\'m sorry but hasbro keeps raising the price at least a dollar a year if not more at this point so justifying why the main version of Optimus prime from the newest live action film is an exclusive with budget cuts that are so big we need to be reminded so we give the thing slack. I\'m proud of what the engineers did with the resources given, but this just doesn\'t cut it I\'m sorry.

Optimus prime, the face of the franchise and the main bot who has a character arc in the newest live action film set to be the top 5 of this year. Doesn’t make any sense to me

Looks pretty good but Hasbro dropped the ball making him exclusive. This is the first time that the Movie Prime is that hard to get.

It’s going to be a nightmare for many people to get him. In many countries, the freaking Buzzworthy line is not even available.

The excuse of Hasbro was just pathetic, King dollar talked, this is a business and we don’t need pathetic excuses to justify an agreement with Target. Don’t be surprised if the Leader Prime is boxed in a SS box in other countries, just like the other ROTB characters but “we didn’t know if Prime could be included in the SS, even Airazor was included but we didn’t know about the main character”

Already being solicited so start scrounging online for one now or of course risk it with the store exclusivity. That's the bane/bane of our hobby now.

I stand by my original opinion that the robot mode looks stellar, and is far superior to SS38, but the vehicle mode definitely suffers. I enjoyed seeing the CAD comparisons. Eager to get the new one, hopefully my Targets will have them

I think the only thing keeping this from being amazing is the truck bed transformation.

The Bumblebee movie Optimus had amazing leg transformation that made the truck hitch area look like an actual truck's. I wish they could a found a way to do that again while maintaining the proper robo mode proportions.

Shoot maybe it's because they had less frames.or whatever they're called to make this one?

Anyway, it looks near perfect and I can't wait to make it mine

(Edit) I see my concern was already addressed lmao well that actually makes me feel better knowing the designers want it as accurate as we do. Still, I can't wait to get my hands on this one

Is anybody weirded out by how they seem to almost patholically refuse to show any shots of his guy with his regular right first instead of the gun? Especially then the trailers all have it on his *left*? If I didn\'t know better I\'d just assume he didn\'t actually have a right hand.

Optimus according to the director is the main transformer of the movie. And that has been known for a very long time. I have absolutely no clue how they didn’t think of making him part of the main SS line up much less allocate him to be a partial.

Honestly my most nitpicky thing (aside from like half the torso being painted blue plastic "cleverly constructed" my behind) is the lack back double tires, cause like 98% of Optimus toys miss this and on ROTB especially cause they're the most prominent in this movie they've every been.
