    Lets see...
His mission was to bring the Ark back to the United States.
    Had he not accepted:
Marion would have been tortured and likely killed. Toht would have had all the complete information regarding the Staff of Ra, dug in the right place, and everyone would have melted on the island, leaving the Ark out in the open for anyone to take. Only the Germans and Indy knew what it was, so it could have been sitting there for either the German, Allies, or anyone to grab.
So in the end Indy accomplishes the mission by bringing the Ark back to the United States and got the girl.

    That's far from worthless.

Ah, we’ve reached the “yeah well the originals weren’t that great anyway” defence to a bad remake/sequel.

In Raiders Indy was at least a proactive, take-charge character. The whole thing with Indy films is that you feel like you’re on just one of his many adventures with him. That’s a far cry from the withered old man who can’t keep up with his own story and constantly shoved to the sidelines.

Seeing it was based on serials that had that kind of ending, not really.

So even the Big Bang crew stated that Indy accomplished his mission and brought back the Ark to the US.

He can’t help it if the government lied about what they would do with it.

    But he did his part.

Is that why he was nominated for Best Director and best Screenplay?

Say what you will about the ending I never saw raiders with a bad plot. Was a mix of uncle scrooge and old serials and it had that tone down right.

Wait for it to drop on Disney Plus, where I can turn it off if the movie is not to my liking or spend the money to see it in the theater.

Yeah, I enjoy Raiders even when I turn my older experienced and critical eye to it. It’s as thrilling as when I was a kid.

The tough thing about writing Indy comes from a line in Raiders: “I’m making this up as I go along.” Indy isn’t Batman. He’s not Captain America. He’s mostly always in over his head in any fight, temple, or chase. But he’s a master of improvisation. That can easily look silly or incompetent or veer the other way and look like a master tactician or invincibility warrior. He has to get knocked around, have things backfire, etc. and that’s tough to write. You can easily veer off into clown or god. Spielberg and Lucas only were really successful at it themselves 2 out of 4 offerings.

Good thing I had no interest in this. Growing up I wasn’t the biggest Indiana Jones fan (thought the first two were all right and only had four on DVD), not even a fan of Harrison Ford as an actor. The only way I’ll see this is if my parents want to meet up and see this, my mom has a passing interest. Otherwise was going to skip and watch on D+ if theres nothing else to watch.

THANK YOU! I hate this rubbish notion that Indy made no impact in Raiders. I don't know if big bang theory originated it, but he clearly had an influence on the story. Marion survived her Nazi run in and the Ark was taken to America. Purely because of Indy. He also was the one who told Marion to keep her eyes shut at the end so he stopped her having her face melt.

Ah yes the Sam Rami series he did before the Spider-man movies. It was a good series and closer to the old stories than Disney.

Big Bang Theory did originate it, but that's because it wasn't talking about the whole movie.

Specifically, it brings up the fact that Indy has no impact at the climax. All he and Marion do is hide behind a rock while the Nazis open the Ark, which then unleashes the ghosts, and then you have people exploding/melting/whatever happens to the third guy, and all the generic nazis get impaled by lighting, and then when all is said and done the Ark's lid flies right back on as if nothing happened.

Now I'm wondering how this film would be received if Indy was teamed with an adult Short Round instead, especially considering the mad attention Ford's photo with Ke Huy Quan got earlier in the year.

It probably would have gone over better with audiences using a character they knew over getting them to like a unknown character. I could easily see Short Round getting in over his head and Indy trying to save him before he saved Indy.
