The local track has a class for “Euro Trucks” which is a 1/10 scale awd touring car class that runs with truck style bodies. One in particular caught my eye: a very familiar red and blue flat nose machine!

I didn’t get any good shots of his Optimus Prime on the course but I will attach the one shot I did get.

I was there goofing around my RC 6x6 Black Convoy/Scourge (absolutely not to compete) and the guy recognized the paint scheme and wanted to take some pics of them together. Running into another Transformers fan is always a great experience. :D

His truck is a Tamiya TT02, mine is a Tamiya GC06 Konghead. Both are a total blast to build.

I don’t expect that this will be my last custom Transformer body. Has anyone else attempted this? 17BD178C-9853-4FF8-838F-C6C52A4D126D.jpeg A0EDD120-27AD-46A1-90EE-813E59FAB01A.jpeg DD326CE4-5272-44FF-A6F1-BE85131CFB0A.jpeg E994E23E-82BA-4EE4-9914-8AD97918E99D.jpeg

I have a few old RC cars…haven’t thought about putting a TF inspired body on any, though. I should try to find something that would pass for Ironhide (good luck, right?) and stick it on an old touring car chassis. Honest truth, if I could find a 3d model of a Nissan Vanette, I could possibly make a mold buck and vacuum form my own…

All that being said, I rarely ever ran at any organized tracks…usually just goofing off with my friends in a homemade backyard track. Alcohol was usually involved, lol. And broken parts!

    Right on.
There is actually a model of a Kei class van out there! They are quite cheap and very popular with customizers. It's not a Nissan Cherry Vannet unfortunately but some some creative customization, they could be made to look pretty damn close.

The model is the WPL D42. A google search will turn up many options including a red version. They come with a taxi accessory that is completely removable.

They have full interiors, working lights, etc. The emphasis is on being a fun/customizable toy rather than a high performance model so keep that in mind.

That could pass for a G1 Ironhide! What size is it?? I have some 1/10, 1/12, 1/18 and 1/24 chassis I could probably use as donors.

This is a roughly 1/10 scale vehicle but that's a bit deceiving because the full scale vehicle is tiny. Are you familiar with kei class vehicles from Japan?

I don’t know if I am…are they those little utility trucks? Like something the size of a little LUV pickup from the 70s/80s (or smaller)?

they’re quite a bit smaller than a Luv truck! They are made to be fuel efficient and easy to park in the city.

The tiny Honda City Turbo (Skids) is a foot longer than that Dihatsu Hijet van!

Sounds more like a go kart…haha. Damn. I have this little 1/14 4wd buggy I got a year or two ago that might work, actually. WLToys something or other (I think) from Banggood. It’s probably more like 1/18.

WL Toys actually makes some pretty good stuff. I had the “14401(?)” 14th scale buggy (maybe the same one?) and even with the brushed motor, it went 30mph right out of the box on 3s. It was a rocket for its size.

Speaking of buggies, I bought and built one of these with the passing thought of making it into a Beachcomber. I ended up going with a straight box art scheme because I loved the 80s look of the car but o might go back and customize it at some point…

Take a look at the Tamiya Fast Attack Vehicle too.

Edit: and yeah, it's the wltoys 14401 I have...it was a super value at the price I paid.
