Added a SG Autobot badge (silver-backed Reprolabels) under Grimlock's chest shield and it looks great IMO. I first tried a black dry rub badge but because of the existing, molded Autobot badge it looked really lumpy and terrible. This works just fine.

True. But my main point remains.

Also, I completely forgot about the Optimus/Ratchet two-pack (since it is technically GenSelects and not SGC). Optimus is fairly accurate since his SG design is fairly G1-inspired but it's lacking in a few details (most notably the roof gun). But Ratchet isn't accurate to any of his bodies, on both the mold and the colour scheme (though the deco is clearly inspired by them).

All I will say is we can really look at FunPub's SG figures and the current Pulse SG figures as two separate and independent lines. But considering that a number of the new Pulse SG figures also appeared in these new toy bodies in an IDW Shattered Glass comic series that ignored much of the previous continuity, it's disingenuous to say that they're not "accurate to their designs/valid" due to the previous fiction using the Botcon/TFCC toys. You can absolutely have a preference of one over the other, but that's an opinion. They're both accurate to their source material.

Although if anyone honestly believes that, if given the choice between using random, hodge-podge, "whatever we have current access to/can shoehorn in as a G1 character" molds vs. using these new, G1-based, CHUG molds to do even the original FunPub SG line, they're fooling themselves, IMO. That was a choice made out of necessity, not a deliberate design decision.

I wouldn't call the IDW comics source material, it's more the other way around. The new toys are the source material for the IDW comics.

OK, you can be as pedantic as you want. The same was true of the original SG toys/fiction, as well: the toys came first. Not really sure what point that proves in this situation, but it doesn't change the fact that these new figures are every bit as "accurate" as the old figures.

Either way, none if this has anything to do with this thread topic.

I believe funpub did a bit of both "Use what we can" and "Let's actively use X for Y". As Jessie saw that 2009 Springer and thought to use that mold for Galvatron.
And honestly, I'm glad for the characters changed in both cases, as it helps make them unique and separate from their positive polarity counterparts.

Nothing you don't already know if you've got the SS version, but a damn nice color scheme all the same.

SG Grimlock looks great. If inflation wasn't out of control I would get one for my kid. Instead we will have to be happy with just the original.

Are you talking about the Takara Tomy line of repaints of movie figures OR was that line that was in time of Age of Extinction? I think it's the AOE come to think of it wasn't the tall deluxe Bumblebee from that line. Either way it's ironic I didn't know about yours and I have both lines in full (minus the voyager Optimus Prime but I have multiples in package of the Hasbro version).

It was the 2014/early 2015 Takara Tomy line that had a bunch of AoE stuff and also several older molds. Nemesis Prime & Grimlock were exclusive to the 2014 Transformers Expo in Yokohama.

Finally got mine, he's really nice. Nicely clicking ratchets, very clean paint. Unfortunately on my copy his right leg doesn't ratchet forward/backward like the left leg. Still a relatively tight joint, by no means floppy and can hold a pose fine, but it'll inevitably bug me anyways. The crotch assembly looks screwed together so maybe I can disassemble it and try and fix it.
Edit: took it apart and inserted half a dozen tiny paper strips underneath the ratchet piece to push it slightly closer to the teeth, screwed back together and it's working properly now

Thanks again guys ! :)  I do remember the movie advanced line now. I have most of them as I mentioned earlier but I definitely missed out on these.

From what I recall, there was a leaked listing for a Commander-class SS86 Ultra Magnus supposedly for next year. Some people are speculating that it will have an inner robot (white Optimus) that's a pretool for a Commander-class SS86 Optimus Prime.

I'm personally hoping that it will as that's my preferred Ultra Magnus design, and if they do, then I'd also hope that they'd do a new Delta Magnus redeco.

Yeah I think so too they definitely would because that way they can stop Fans☕Toys alternate company release their white Optimus Magnus release. Plus it goes with the commander class style.

I'll never understand why this one gets the clearer chest than the SS86 one

Got this in a couple days ago, cannot stop fiddling with it

the SS86 scheme looked bland to me, kind of a lifeless mold due to being so toon inspired

the Trypticon colors transform it so much, the thing just POPS

i even got a Siege Brunt to go with it
