Much more than any other toy company, Lego cares very much about their public image, and will not risk being drawn into any major controversy, even if it costs them some money in the process. See also the scrapped Technic Osprey, and the cancelled Overwatch 2 tie-in. Just how they roll. Does help that unlike other toy companies, their modular product can be immediately repurposed elsewhere. Big chunk of lost change on all the printed materials, but very little of the part manufacturing goes to waste.
Well, they've been doing Batman stuff for a long time. If they think holding off is better for the brand in the long run fine. Some 89 and returns sets would work just as well.
Well, most of my latest Pick A Brick order arrived earlier today.. now I just got to wait for the "bestseller" stuff, which will take who knows how long.. doh!!
While on vacation, picked up some Disney100 mini-figures (my mom and my sister-in-law also picked up some). I was there a day early (since I mistook the day my brother them was gonna actually arrive) so ended up going to a Lego store, but they had a 5x package limit. When with the family we ended up going to two shops on two different days, which the shops having 18x package limit. I did a blind grab the first day. Another other shop we did a blind grab cause it was packed like crazy. The third someone was helping out another person saying what he thought was in each package, so me and my sister-in-law grabbed ones we wanted/thought we need (we were having my niece open three a day so we wasn't even sure what we had waiting for us lol). All in all, roughly 41 packs total bought. My niece got all except Evil Queen. I got all except Prince John, Evil Queen, Queen of Hearts, and Mickey Mouse. Originally my mom was gonna bring home four for our downstairs family kids but ended up getting seven total since we had some duplicates. Other than those we had three other duplicates that none of us three needed. Wished when they guy was helping out with the packages, we grabbed the more since my niece would of had a complete set and I would of only needed Mickey at the end. My niece was super happy cause she really wanted Mickey and she got one so all in all it was worth it.
I like it, but not $400 like it. The minifigures are sweet and the car is slick. Not sure what I’d do with it is the ultimate problem. The UCS 89 Batmobile and my non-Lego Batman stuff already take up a lot of real estate.
Does this set have the same Minifigure as the new polybag? Batcave™ – Shadow Box 76252 | Batman™ | Buy online at the Official LEGO® Shop US
**sigh** Why? Just why? It’s $520 in Canada. $70 more than the daily bugle. Yes it has 200 more pieces but it also has 15 less minifigures. None of the minifigs have leg printing. Looks like half of the pieces are going to go into making the shadow box. I guess it has a light brick? Could have been a good way to get some of the red triangle gang. Penguins Duck boat car thing, Selina Kyle, and some penguins with rockets on their back. I’m going to buy it. It’s Keaton Batman. It is what it is. It’s just irritating that more effort wasn’t put into it. I’m sure I’ll love it and I’m sure I’ll forget about the $600 I’ll pay for it after tax but man, it could have been so much more.
Just built Tales of the Space Age. It’s so gorgeous, I love the colors and the build techniques. The pink and blue postcards are my favorite of the four
I'm gonna pass. Comparing this set to the Bugle is pretty damning. Imagine everything they could have done with that $400 budget if they'd gone for an all-out celebration of the character, like the Bugle did for Spider-Man... I'm imagining a comic-inspired cave packed with references like the T-Rex, giant penny, Joker card, walls of suits, and a full Bat-family & rogue's gallery of minifigures. Instead they give us a set limited to one movie and only a few characters, where half the piece-count & price goes towards a big black box. (I realize the Bugle is somewhat box-like as well, but it certainly has more external detail & display value than just a featureless, colourless wall.) Huge missed opportunity as far as I'm concerned! On the bright side, that little Batmobile looks great! It even has the guns with pop-off panels! Hope it's similar to the stand-alone Keaton Batmobile set rumoured to be coming soon.
This looks cool…I’m wondering if they eventually offer the figures and maybe the batmobile in a cheaper, more simplified, set down the road?
It reminds me of the mechs in Dexter's laboratory which were pretty cool How long has that polybag been out?
Yeah, not a fan of that big box design, I get what they were going for, but I would have prefered to push the open cave up against my own black backdrop or something, and just have a few pillars holding up the ceiling if the cave maybe. That whole front half is un-needed
