This is rad. Never expected to see these special edition figures with such clarity especially after all these years. Nearly two decades this thing has sat in obscurity!

 

Say what you will about Energon (crappy animation, somewhat nonsensical story, wacky designs) but when the toys were good, they were good.

 

Never knew the cab was so grey. That and the seemingly unchanged sub (unless my color blindness is kicking in) makes it seem a bit dull. But I do love everything else from the really colorful drill to the wacky colored chrome and of course those Toxitron fitting window pieces. Echoing Split-Lip cool to see this in such clarity and I solute the brave person who actually opened it up and messed with it (admittedly would do that too if I had one; maybe for the best that I don't though).

 

Looks like an interesting fusion of G2 and Machine Wars colors. Nifty!

I find it hilarious that I can't tell whether the window panes, elbows and gun were intentionally made with cream plastic, or if they're just white plastic that yellowed hard. The purple chrome is really superb.

 

for those still unaware, takara would hold a contests via magazine, with kids being encouraged to design a repaint using a colour-in template of convoy. then in a later issue, a ton of fan-made repaint ideas would be shown, allowing readers to vote for their favourite. the magazine would hold rounds of voting until one deco was chosen. true democracy manifest  

superlink (not energon) is a solid enough show from what ive seen. the models arent as bad as galaxyforce, at least  

 

Of all the color schemes in all the gamut in all the world, the chosen one look like a classic KO.

The kid who did the black/yellow/red version (second on top) has a good eye for color placement and design.

 

Not really visit transformers at the moon or luckydrawtransformers.com it's been online for well over a decade.

I know these aren't from the contest themselves but some like the Magnus and Combiner ones look really cool.

 

These were some we mocked up using the form at the time of the competition

 

Allegedly the green and red almost got made to
