Wenwu is widely considered one of the best MCU villains and he’s a composite character. I see what they’re doing as Scourge to be a fantastic new direction and it’s cool to combine all the unrelated Scourges. Given that he’s in a Beast Wars movie, you could even say he’s the Transmetal one!

Can’t wait to see Scourge on the big screen!

It's fine, just inaccurate with some budget limitations. The figure seemed to have the same situation to Mpm-7 and Studio series BBM Bumblebee where he was based on concept art instead of the final design.
The truck mode has the most budget compromises. The front and rear smokestacks aren't as close to eachother as the actual truck, I believe the sleeper part of the cab is too short, and the grill guard is angled in a trapezoid like shape instead of straight and rectangular like the actual truck. I am hoping for an MPM since those complaints are minor and easily could be fixed. Also I love the truck.

I wanted these new movies to be a reboot, and argued a bunch of times in favor of that notion. But in response to the evidence, I've changed my position because it points to Paramount not doing that, regardless of how moronic I personally feel that is.

The thing I notice with these two quotes (basically the only official statements we have suggesting a reboot) is neither outright says "The Bayverse timeline is over and these new films, starting with Bumblebee, are a separate continuity."

In regards to the "Feels like a true reboot" comment, I have to ask, what could he possibly be referring to?
What part of any of this, story or visual, does NOT feel like Bayformers? I could give them the Arcee and Optimus design, but even those are changed from previous iterations to be more Bay-ish (Prime's ugly ass face, Arcee being a Ducati bike.) I would argue the reason Arcee doesn't have more overt changes, is that the ROTF design was so incredibly bad that *nobody* involved wanted to go back to it.

I was also excited by the "New Storytelling Universe" comment back when it was made, but there's more than one way to interpret that statement - For example you could say "It's a new storytelling universe because we're setting the films in a different time period and focusing on different characters." Is that misleading cheeky bullshit? Absolutely. But that's exactly what I would expect from a film series helmed by people who talk like this-

Reading between the lines - I don't want to make a reboot, as that might meaning losing creative control and potentially my role as producer, but I also don't want to have to deal with the 10,000 miles of tangled up Christmas lights that the Bayverse continuity turned into, so instead we're just going to produce a bunch of prequels nobody asked for to keep dragging out a film series that won't receive a real conclusion.

    But to those committed to the idea that Lorenzo is just some old senile grandpa stuck in the past who keeps insisting the films are something they aren't, and I suppose everyone else plays along to avoid hurting his feelings or whatever, here's a quote from Travis Knight regarding the Bumblebee movie;

How Bumblebee's 1980s Setting Turned It Into Every Transformers Fan's Dream

“I had this whole thing boarded where we’re where we see [Decepticon leader] Megatron and he comes in like Sauron, just blowing shit up and laying waste to everything,” Knight said. However, he then realized in this world, Megatron is currently frozen on Earth, as seen in 2007's Transformers, so that was out.

“So even though I really wanted to see G1 Megatron on the battlefield at the fall Cybertron, I couldn’t do it,” he said.

He says it right there. Can't have Megatron because he's frozen on Earth in this world.

Now granted, I haven't seen Rise of The Beasts, and for all I know Megatron appears in a post-credits cameo. The overarching theme I see is that Paramount still doesn't care if the stories contradict each other, which doesn't bode well for anyone wanting a real improvement over the Bay films. I.E the whole reason there was so much support for a reboot to begin with.

The fact that this whole issue is about as clear as mud, and we're still debating over it with the new movie coming out in a little over a month, is painfully demonstrative of how poorly these films are handled.

I definitely want to see this. They’ve gotten seem to have gotten so much right.

But because they’ve done so many things right, the wrong tends to stick out a bit a more.

First off.. wheeljack still just absolutely kills me. It just makes absolutely no sense. We saw him done perfectly in bumblebee. Now it looks like Bay got his hands in him and threw up all over it. It’s sad. And same with mirage.. the alt mode, the personality.. it doesn’t scream mirage to me. I personally would’ve loved to have seen a proper hot rod plus his story arc into rodimus. Especially with unicron in the movie.

Second. I LOVE that it looks like they’re doing Justice to unicron. But I feel like this is something that they should’ve built up to. It seems weird to introduce both beast wars and unicron in the same movie. It’s a shame because I feel like that means we lose a possible appearance of dinobot, or t Rex megatron.. I think a beast wars centric movie on its own would’ve been better.

Third. The humans.. I really hate this idea that was established that the movies must follow a couple humans and focus on their character arcs. Like unless there are humans in the movie it would be impossible to relate to a robot. That concept is just flawed from top to bottom.

I also REALLY hope there aren’t any huge plot holes. After re watching the other movies there are some seriously egregious things that simply make no sense. I mean, ugh, it’s just awful. At one point I was wondering to myself how I ever liked them in the first place.. and worse yet, I used to defend them.

Lastly.. I’m sure this isn’t a popular opinion, but I’ve always wanted to see a live action version of the ‘86 movie.

Poorly handled or there could be infighting where some people in Paramount want to reboot it like Travis Knight, and others want to stay in the Bayverse like Lorenzo. Unfortunately we don't have anyone with active sources in Paramount like the Star Wars community does with Lucasfilm.

I could totally see it being a situation like that, where the pro-verse Bayverse side ultimately won out. Perhaps that was part of the reason the film got delayed.

I think the first 3 did fine with keeping continuity. It's when you get to AOE where things get missed, retconned and ignored. The only one in the original 3 I can think of is Megatron's plan with the Allspark changes from using it to create an army to extracting the map to the matrix for the Fallen. And even then I just assumed he wanted to do both. Make an army and find the Matrix.

Why 'nerdy' Wheeljack got so much hate I'll never understand. I just hope we get a decent SS figure of him (but if not the mainline one is good enough) and a proper deluxe Arcee. The core one is just too small. Maybe not this year but hopefully eventually done right like the Bumblebee movie Shockwave

I don't get hyped for these movies precisely because they unfailingly deliver a shit sandwich, and based on this I can honestly see no reason why this won't serve up anything different.

5/10 (being generous) for no other reason than Unicron looks enough like his G1 self, but literally everything else ... hideous.

why did they do a core class BBM shockwave anyways? with arcee i can see why as she's really small in the trailer (barely being half the size of wheeljack) but shockwave i just have no clue

In this live interview, Caple Jr's exact words are, "It feels like a true reboot".
In essence, he's saying it's a true reboot and has the feeling of being a true reboot. :)

i'd say that AOE got continuity fairly right, it was TLK where they royally fucked everything up
