Ironically, they'd actually be in *scale* with legends if they did.

You know, I never noticed that Heinrad had such huge cajones before; I think you might have sold me one. :buttrock :buttrock :buttrock

I've already been using the MPG Trainbots as my "Legends Trainbots" for this reason; I guess these are Trainbots for my [strike]Micromasters[/strike] [strike]World's Smallest Transformers[/strike] Whatever-the-Heck-We're-Calling-Transformers-that-Small-Now.

I do know how large they are, and I don't care about model scale representation of the alt mode. All of these MPGs are much taller in bot mode than they should be if they are, as alleged, "CHUG". As shown on screen, they are normal sized transformers, not giants. Yes, this is because of mass-shifting, and yes, this cannot be reproduced as a toy. This is old hat in transformers by now.

They do not fit a "CHUG" collection, not in size, not in looks, and not in design style. They are not "CHUG".

I haven't bought any MPGs, but if I recall correctly aren't they only about the size of MP carbots, that is basically Voyager size. Not exactly "giants". I've never seen a comparison, but that sounds like they are close to the same size as the CW/UW Constructicons to me.

No, they are significantly taller than your average voyager or leader class toy. There are pictures out there giving the comparison, and they are head and shoulders taller than, for example, Earthrise Optimus Prime. That makes them giants to me (just think how you would classify a person that was that much taller than someone we already consider taller than average).

It's chug sized. It's just Fancy Chug.

Takara sizes great with Chug. They are trains.

Seeing @Purple Heart 's pictures (thank you) I would say that is within the range that qualifies for Voyager. At least within the same margin of range they give for deluxes these days adding in minibots to that size class.

Okay, so not quite so tall as I recalled.

But they are supposed to be (according to their cartoon depiction) the same size as a regular Autobot from the series that they appear in, such as Chromedome (I'm thinking specifically of when Shouki and Chromedome shake hands to end their feud in Terror Of The Six Shadows). Not taller than Optimus Prime. "CHUG" operates by a more-or-less standard relative scale these days, and they don't fit it.

I'd imagine the combined mode height is the most important factor for most collectors, though. And I personally think the design style has a lot more in common with recent CHUG toys than it does recent Masterpiece toys...

The Headmaster's are quite big. In Headmasters where the Trainbots actually appeared the Headmasters were more comparable to say Sixshot than a regular Autobot like Kup. I don't remember for certain, but I think Sixshot has always been depicted as taller than Optimus.

Size was all over the place in that anime. In some scenes, Sixshot is the same size as Ultra Magnus, in others, he is the same size as Chromedome, who also would vary in size depending on the scene.

Most characters in Headmasters would just be drawn as the same height as whatever character they were next to, the reason people think the Trainbots were so small was because of a few scenes where they were around humans and drawn as just a few meters tall. But in other shots, they are the same size of as Autobots/Decepticons and they towered over humans.

See with the way you are describing that rather than saying Sixshot's size change I would simply say that the Headmasters like Chromedome were Magnus size (for disclosure I've never actually seen them next to Magnus). How big Fortress and Brainstorm are next to Kup would suggest that as well.

I honestly don’t know why anyone would take scale in Headmasters any more seriously then in in the original G1 cartoon. It’s just as much of a mess, perhaps even more.

You mean Double Dealer ISN'T utterly ginormous?
(yeah yeah, Masterforce not Headmasters, but same point---Jp G1 is just as crazy with scale as the original 3 seasons, if not worse)

I don't really, but the conversation is about what size Trainbots should be for CHUG. I guess they could be a cm or 2 shorter than the MPGs, but I feel deluxe size trainbots would be far too small. I've never watched Headmasters, I tried and just couldn't stomach it, but that was back before I had discovered anime (80s cartoons made for the US like Voltron were not the same thing) so I may do better now but haven't sat down to try.

Why would you ask that, clearly a combiner is the same size as say Onslaught or Silverbolt.

I think some confusing over MPG Raiden's style is because the Headmaster's character designs were more detailed and kept more realistic vehicle modes than in the previous US only shows. The most overriding design conceit for them is attempting to recreate the relative size between the real trains and hit HO scale as best they can. G1 Raiden had all the trains the same size and length and this Legends version may do the same.

Something not always understood about panning shots is they often are distorted to give the illusion of movement as the camera goes up. Doubleclouder is also different than Doubledealer.

Have any updates snuck out for this set? I was so excited back in April but now I'm worried with months of nothing.
