Ah, yeah...the "Red Skies" seasons of TMNT... I was already out of TMNT by the time those seasons came out. I think I can remember the exact point I stopped caring about TMNT...1993...when the third live action movie came out. I was done... Mainly cause by that point I was fully into video gaming with Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. Also, anime and manga. Was getting into that as it started to pop up around video stores and comic shops. I recall seeing bits of the Red Sky seasons and thinking "Glad I got out of that when I did." And Next Mutation didn't change that opinion. It wasn't until the 2003 cartoon and toyline happened that I got back into TMNT.
Target sent out their "last chance for Haulathon" email today. Not seeing anything new or different on the site. If I'm up early enough in the AM, I'll see if they post the toon accessory set again. That's the only thing I really want another copy of at MSRP to gift to a friend.
Yeah, I was well past TMNT around that time too. I think I enjoyed the third movie when I saw it in theaters and then when I rented it on VHS from Video Factory, I hated it so much I stopped paying attention until The Next Mutation came out. God was that show a stinker. I loved the early seasons to the 2003 series, but then they changed the animation, tone, and turned it into Fast Forward, so I dropped it. I did watch Turtles Forever, which I thought was great.
I remember there was a crossover episode with Power Rangers in space as well too since Saban had the TMNT license at the time.
Speaking of Next Mutation, I’d appreciate it if Super7 put Venus in a future wave, however unlikely that is.
I remember the very day that Turtlemania died for me. I went into the theatre to see "Secret of the Ooze" crazy about TMNT and walked out totally over them, haha. I didn't know there was a third movie until the mid 2000s when I got the internet.
I think I'd prefer Jennika. Especially because Jennika has often be drawn in a Mirage style (which I feel fits somewhat with the existing Turtles). And, of course, there's this cover... Which I'm not sure Playmates could do anything about since they've never made a Jennika. From what I understand, Playmates-adjacent designs are absolutely fair game. The beef is about when they do designs that Playmates has done in Playmates colors. Hence, why Wave 10 was able to have the Mirage Casey redeco. If, for example, you were to go through unproduced Michael Dooney character sketches (he did the pen and paper designs for a lot of the toys) then I don't think Playmates actually cares about that. I think it'd be cool to use Jennika's "toy" cover variant as a starting place for a figure and then have her "modern" head be more of a straight Kevin Eastman Jennika head. Really, though... I want Super7 to finish every group they started in this line. But I think it would be a decent evolution of the line to have the "one Turtle per wave" not always be one of the main 4. I think there are about four female Turtles they could do, four evil Turtles (counting Slash), and probably four male, allied Turtles. It might be nice if the waves eased up on the core TMNT variants (making that an every other wave thing) and started working in the various other Turtles in alternating waves. Female Turtles: Jennika, Venus, April, Artemisia, Bog Lita, Moja, Yi Male Turtles: Kirby, Blobboid, Shellectro, Griddex, Graviturtle, El Gran Terrapin (the Mexican Voltron-style hybrid of the four main TMNT), Odyn, Uno, Kerma Evil Turtles: Tokka, Hun, Archeloga, Tostegaron
Bro, an Ultimakes Jennika (even just using the same mold as the others) would be a day one purchase from me.
Yeah, not surprising. I bet they go up on NECA's store within the next few weeks after this Haulathon.
