Overall I want to like this figure, but I so much hate the legs.

 

It's the ER Prime trailer, just like Holiday Prime, but in a better deco than ER

 

Do we have any information on the Amazon truck version of this, cancellation or otherwise? I thought that was why we got the Volvo licensing in the first place?

 

Likely indefinitely shelved, there's been no updates and "repaints" like Holiday Prime came put prior to that initial listing.

I think this is a refreshing take on OP. Digging the transformation, and I really like how the wheels are on his back.
Dunno if I will get it or not, but I appreciate this figure's existence.

Definitely an interesting one. The colors really pop on this mold. Wasnt feeling it with holiday prime, this one looks way better

I was hoping this mold would be used for G2 Hero Optimus too, with a Nerf missile launcher trailer.

 

I think it’s a pulse exclusive.

 

It's allegedly a fan channel "exclusive", so online stores in general should carry it as well as Gamestop (similar to Selects and how Holiday Prime was released).

 

I don’t think that opportunity was missed. Given how warm the reception was for Holiday Prime as a toy and since it was an Optimus Prime, I think it was inevitable we’d see it repainted in a classic G1 color scheme. While I think it’s cool Holiday Prime was painted to look like Santa Claus, I passed waiting for something more like this. Wish something could’ve been done so that it had less red on the legs as the VNR mode was prioritized this time around.

Even if the lower legs were reversed it’s still not enough for me to look at it as a faithful G2 Hero Prime homage. Something like that IMO, deserves all new tooling. While I would expect things like a taller neck and V body instead of a rectangular torso, I would also expect a new G2 Hero Prime to maintain the bulkier silhouette. That sculpt evoked power and firepower, it would need both missles and guns for a proper homage to me, even if the missles couldn’t be air launched.

VNR Prime’s mold is too slender to be a G2 Hero homage to me, merely repainting it in G2 Hero colors would be insufficient to me and I don’t think it would do the design justice. I think a new head sculpt and midsection would make it actually closer to a Generations Earthspark Prime physically than it would to G2 Hero Prime.

So that opportunity to do G2 Hero Prime justice with a new mold is there, just not with this figure IMO.

 

It wouldn't need an extensive retool. Just retool the front the cab so that the grill hinge is on the other side of the leg and add 5MM ports to the sides of his forearms. Ditch the trailer and make a new missile launcher accessory that mounts on the truck bed or can attach via the retooled forearms in robot mode. Without the trailer, he probably could be sold as a "voyager plus" rather than a leader for around $39.99 or $44.99 in fan channels.

I did a quick mock up. it looks pretty good, actually.

 

I'd offer the idea of remolding the legs some to get the grill kneecaps out of the way and allow the legs to be reversed and still have that knee accessible. That way it can look fully proper with the hood facing the fronts

 

So wondering if this and the war dawn set may go up at pulse today... Hoping something does.

 

I've gotten pretty bored with the cabover look and this is a pretty nice, pedestrian vehicle choice for Optimus that really pops. Legacy Scourge showed me how much better conventional cabs can be for making the truck look appropriately large. My question, though is since it's licensed and more grounded in the real world... won't it look way out of scale with standard carbots like ER Prowl, Kingdom Tracks and Legacy Knockout?

I'm ready to replace ER, especially with the much better colors on this one's trailer, but I definitely don't want to jump the gun and end up with a truck that's even more obviously a dwarf.

 

This one gets points for the more accurate color scheme, but Holiday Prime had a candy cane dick so I'd say it's six of one and half-dozen of another.
