I have a random question but figured ya'll might know: How do you prevent paint Chipping on your prints? Despite sanding, and doing sprayed clear coats, my paint (cheap acrylics) just comes off at the parts that rub. Do I need to buy a particular brand of paint? Are spray paints better? Do I need to make a certain 0.04mm gap on my pieces to account for the paint layer? I know that no matter what I do nothing is gonna be better than printing in coloured filament, but I can't do that right now so I wondered if there was any tips you all might have. Thanks!
Thanks for such quick replies! I've never come across those before, they sound interesting! Is it not tricky to use on more complex shapes? Hey if it works it works! how thick/runny is it, like resin or varnish? and do you just mix acrylics with it?
I use golden paint (high color pigment paint) and In the pledge until I get a dollor store acrylic paint consistency

Alrighty, so I just finished working on my upgrade part for SamMakesToys Microplex, I guess second time was the charm with this since expanding the lines to 2mm by 2mm and moving them down a bit worked perfectly! I made Version one of a 3D printed laserBeak, who’s cassette mode actually plays music! Gonna make a YouTube video on it this Wednesday explaining why it’s version one.
Been slow going because of work but finishing up on this little guy. I guess he's around core class, stands about 10cm tall. Idea is he's a guard turret/anti air cannon that should sit quite nicely next to the titan class bots in city mode. There's a couple of configurations in turret mode. Think I prefer the longer version. One of two styles of turret I was toying with but he's turned out ok! He's also technically a triple changer since he has a secondary 'walker' sentry mode that was a nice little accident! This is the block prototype before he becomes something more specific. Like the idea of a few versions of each part to mix and match generic turret bots. Scale up for the cross over bot. I'll post bot mode when I've sorted a head out for him
There we go. Replaced his barrel with a full size one and attached a head. It's not articulated but the final versions will probably have a ball joint neck. More about transformation at this stage. He'll have 2 gun barrels in the final detailed figure.
Got these two leg extenders printed for Legacy Menasor! I wanted to try doubling up because I felt like Menasor had weird gorilla proportions and was a bit too short compared to Jetfire and whatnot, I wanted to get him into a ballpark where he could at least roughly match up with 18 inch combiners like CW Devastator without looking too comically undersized. I also felt like this would make him look proportionally more accurate to his G1 animation model! The extenders combined add a 2 whole inches to his height, bringing him from 12 inches to a little over 14! He's still much smaller than my other 45cm scale Combiners, but at least he now towers over Jetfire and he feels like he could actually put up a fight, he's not so hopelessly outmatched anymore Some might think he looks a little too spindly now, but Menasor's design was always pretty funky and I quite like how this looks, at least his hands don't reach below his knees anymore! I quite like the varying scale between him, Jinbao Warbotron and the Jinbao Warbotron with the recent Upgrade Kit, bit of variance to the combiner sizes is fun and I feel like the scale here would make a lot of sense since Devastator is formed by 6 construction vehicles, Bruticus by 5 military vehicles and Menasor by a truck and 4 sports cars The legs look a lot more proportional now since the thighs are almost the same length as the lower feet, but I think the torso might be a touch undersized now. If I had 3d modeling capabilities I would totally try to design a printable torso extender there: The waist is connected to the abdomen via a mushroom joint so it should be easy to add like half an inch of height there with a printed piece, and Menasor's design does have this sort of flat "thinner" area at the bottom of his abdomen right before the waist so it could work: Here's also the links to the files I used for this, in case anyone is interested in either of the two extenders! Managed to get some more work done on my Metroplex project. Dont mind the mess this is just a quick and dirty video on what I have done to date and where I am at. I am really liking how he is turning out and it is just the motivation I need to finish this long drawn out project of mine so I can display him properly once done. I did a mostly redesign on the arms as I wanted to add some more transformation and attempt to improve the forward backward shoulder ratchets. Will be at least another month now reprinting both of those and assembling them. He is fully transformable and has 3 modes. I have some videos up on youtube including one going into detail on the leg assembly and transformation of the leg into all 3 modes. Siege Omega Supreme for scale.
