So a friend in China sent this ad, purportedly a KO of the DNA upgrade kit with some parts ignored. There had been plenty of grumblings in the Chinese sphere about DNA's pricing.

Finally shipped my Stash from TCP and it arrived today. (I had been waiting on other items for free shipping.) Hope to get to making the upgrades this week.

 

Everybody's been talking about struggling to reinstall the springs in the thighs on this kit. I actually found that to be pretty easy. Took me less than 5 minutes to do both. What I struggled with was reinstalling the god damned ratchets in the hip piece. I could not get them to line up enough to press them in place. That took a while but I eventually got them.

As for the kit, I don't care at all for the super cannon pieces. The cannon still looks dumb and the extra pieces don't securely attach in vehicle mode so they went right back in the box. Everything else is fantastic. I made the decision to cut the tabs on the sword pieces and glue them together. I'd prefer to have a more cohesive sword than one that can store in vehicle mode. I prefer the toon look chest but I do think the toy look chest looks really good. Only bad thing about it is how tall the shoulder pylons are. The stock ones already block Menasor's face when he turns his head, these ones block it more.

Other than that, the kit is great and makes a good Menasor even better.

I just got my kit installed on the finished menasor. I left the chest piece of because I like the original better but swapped the hip out for the upgrade. I completed the big cannon accessory.... BUT... It just sits there. Honestly.... The main components I wanted are all included on the KO and if I could save $30+ to lose the hip upgrade, chest I don't use, and gun upgrades that just sit there... I'd do it.

 

Will you be able to do follow up on this KO DNA kit from time to time for us? Would love to see if it will come to fruition. Much appreciated!

 

Got mine in too.

Installation in the hips and thighs was definitely the worst part of it. You'll need tweezers to align the hip ratchets in as best you can and then quickly use your thumb to push it into place, otherwise they're going to go flying off right into your face.

For the thigh spring mechanisms, I found a helpful approach. Use the actual combiner pegs from the legs to help keep the spring and panel in place while you get the other half of the thigh to put in place. After I figured this out, the other thigh was much easier to handle.

Overall, I like most of it. Didn't bother with the new chest because I already fear the point of attachment of the stock chest snapping every time it accidently comes off, and yeah the super gun is just a whole lot of nothing so not bothering with its relevant parts. I do kinda wish I could have kept the old thighs since I feel the new ones are a touch noticeably long, but since they're necessary for the trailer mode, I can deal.

What gun is that, and does it come in purple?

 

The Menasor Rifle by Renderform, it was also available in purple, but not sure if either still available at this point in time. I just liked it better in black.

 

So I'm starting to have that forward leaning issue after installation (had before too) and I thought I tightened the right ankle screws to prevent this. What screws were you supposed to tighten to prevent the forward tilt?

If I get more concrete news, I'll post more about it. The reason I did not open an entire new thread is because the photos were circulated only on WeChat (China's WhatsApp/Telegram), I don't think there is an actual Weibo (China's Twitter) claiming to be the factory yet.

 

Does he hold the gun well?

Some have mentioned that the DNA Design hands don’t hold 5mm pegs well (I’ve even seen adapters being offered for sale on eBay to accommodate some of the guns that other companies are offering).

 

His original hands did, the gun has a 5mm peg.

After installing the DNA hands, he can no longer legit "hold" the gun because of the lack of 5mm pegholes, but you can plug them into the same pegholes on his wrists that the super-gun formed with the DNA parts pegs into in order to simulate him holding it.

Hoping a viable solution comes up to leg him actually hold it again. I remember someone made an adapter piece for the hands but I can't remember where that was, or if it could even be bought.
