I would love to get official versions, but if not, these will suffice. What I want even more is the original Fire Mario with red shirt and white hat/pants and original Luigi with green shirt and white hat/pants.
I feel like, starting with Yoshi's Island, Nintendo went crazy retconning Mario mythology, changing colors, removing New York (despite Mario being named after an employee from Brooklyn), getting rid of all of Mario's rough edges like the times he'd been a villain. It wouldn't shock me if they don't approve merch with the older looks.
I suspect Jakks is just playing it safe and releasing stuff that's more recent, since this is a kid's toy line. It makes sense that Jakks would release figures of designs kids would be more familiar with. I just wish we could get a few vintage 80's designs sprinkled in here and there, like 1 figure every 2 or 3 waves would be nice. I can not express how much I want a Link figure from Zelda II: The Adventures of Link. Jakks could get 3 uses out of the mold: Link in green, Link in red, and all black Shadow Link.
I love everything about that photo. Nice work. I must now replicate. I'm fairly new to the line so could you clarify about which recent Luigi marks when the green becomes too dark, for my own buying reference?
Hey y'all the Mario Movie 5 inch figures and the van are on sale for $14 at Target. This price is definitely worth it for Mario, Luigi, and Toad. Peach is iffy due to her restricted articulation. As far as I'm aware, there are 3 releases of Luigi with a green hat/shirt and blue pants: 1st release - Comes with mystery box (spoiler alert: it's a green 1-up mushroom). Has clenched fists. 2nd release - Comes with a turtle shell. Has open hands. 3rd release - Comes with a red mushroom. Has clenched fists. I do not know about the shade of green on the 2nd release of Luigi as I never had that one. But between the 1st release and the 3rd release, you definately want the 1st release as that green is a better match for the green pants of the Ice Luigi figure. The 3rd release Luigi still is a good figure. The darker green doesn't look bad on him as a stand alone figure. The problem is that the dark green hat from that head would clash with the lighter green pants on the Ice Luigi figure. So I used the head from the 1st release for my custom. And I'm keeping the 3rd release Luigi as is for a regular green shirt/hat and blue pants Luigi, which is how he looked from Super Mario Bros 2 and onward.
Thank you for taking the time to put all that together. You didn't even have to, let alone add the visual references. Class act there.
I must have been living under a rock (especially in my part of the world) but I didn't know the Mario movie figures were bigger than the regular ones umtil I bought some for my kids! IMO the Bowser is a better but pricer!
Nice! These hit my country a few weeks back. Sadly, the earlier waves like the green shell koopa troopa didn’t hit my country.
I like to save the cars backing for myself. I get paid this coming Tuesday, so I can reimburse you then.
Grabbed this Bowser today at Walmart. The "fire breathing" gimmick is pretty neat even if I probably won't use it much.
