Respect to Japan for letting the orginal voices reprise their roles.

Wouldn’t it have been tricky to get Chalk for ROTB since he’s part of a Canadian voice acting union? I’m not surprised that a movie made in the US went with a popular voice actor from the US. (Plus, we got Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime again, so it’s not like they’re ignoring the original voice actors completely.)

You have no idea. Especially when it comes to anime, it's not uncommon for voice actors to come out of retirement to voice characters they voiced decades ago for a random cameo in a random spin-off that's only tangentially related to the original. Seriously, 99 times out of 100, if you voice a character, you're attached to the character for life.

The Japanese get it. Imagine if we’d had Gary Chalk alongside Peter Cullen.

It’s how you know the director is bullshitting about being a Beast Wars fan.

Goddamn it. Well I’ll have to take a break from these threads this summer until I can go see it. I’m sick of these staggered releases in Japan.

Not sure if Garry Chalk can’t voice him, he’s been in American-made movies but I wonder if him being non-American Union does preempt him.

Indeed. In fact, its a blessing Tessho-san still voices Convoy after all these years and enjoys it.

Naturally Japan is positioned above the USA in terms of original voices respected.

So they get their original Primal actor but we don't get Gary?! Hasbro is DAMN lucky Peter Cullen keeps coming back for more after all the stinking crocs of shit they send his way over and over again. My heart broke to hear him lament how he had to compete with other voice actors just to get a chance to voice the role that he helped create in 07 auditions and they were still screwing him all the way up to Bumblebee movie. You know what? I'm glad Gary isn't attached. These magnificent men deserve fucking better than the way American businesses treat their talent.
