I started watching the G2 cartoon and collected the toys when I was 3.

I got into Transformers back in 2006 when I was about 10, through the old Attacktix game*. That game started with Star Wars pieces, which was a franchise I already liked. When they introduced Transformers playing pieces, I asked my dad what Transformers was all about. He explained some of the G1 lore (which he partially got wrong since he was older when it came out and wasn't terribly invested in the brand, lol) and printed off some Wikipedia articles for my sister and I to read. I guess the characters and overall concept clicked with us. Then we found a G1 VHS tape at Goodwill, and watched that.

I think my continued interest in the brand was probably a combination of several factors, like the Classics figures being released around that time and the 2007 movie coming out a year later. It was a really good time to get into Transformers.

*On a side note, it still makes me mad that Attacktix was cancelled. Super fun and innovative idea for a tabletop game, which sadly can't really be played forever since the pieces get old and start cracking. They need to bring it back and rebrand it as an adult game, if the action features are considered too dangerous for kids. I've sadly never been able to get into stuff like Heroclix. It's hard to get invested in rolling dice and comparing stats when the game you grew up with involved literal firing projectiles and spring-loaded lightsabers, lol.

The local variant of Go-bots caught my attention, and I had a dozen or so of them. Then, a year or so later, this new toyline called Transformers started showing up...
