Holy crap that looks like someone took the head from a wildly different toy and stuck it on just for laughs. How did this ever manage to get to physical prototype stage before someone said "hey, maybe the proportions should not look like a FUNKO POP.

 

This is a really clever use of the Inferno/Grapple mold.
His jaw looks a tad big though.

No it not look like it the G1 show. At all.

 

I like how they did the alt mode but I feel like Bulkhead just isn't Bulk without the....Bulk and this really misses that in bot mode. Funny enough I feel like a hoist retool would work better. Otherwise though the mold does look good in these colors. I did hear the mold though suffers from some catastrophic flaw as per usual with XTB?
I think I said this when this was announced though but if they do feel like going this route with left field retools and redecoes (Taiho was one I really liked) then could they perhaps also consider something slightly less left field and do an SG Ratchet out of this mold as well? I've always lamented that a proper one out of the old Roadblock mold never happened and this mold would carry the same spirit so I feel it'd work quite nicely (heck make the inferno gun arm in red for a bonus Armada Red Alert homage)

I was pretty curious about this, and liked the old renders. I have the Hauler version and like the mold enough to double-dip in theory, but I just don't really like how the head finished up. I think if it was just a bit smaller that might be enough even without making it "more G1" or more in line with the body, etc.

 

Easy pass. If I wanted a green Inferno with a Bulkhead noggin, I'd have bought the Legacy toy.

 

Except Legacy Bulkhead didn’t have an Inferno body, though I did put Inferno’s head on it for a more interesting Hauler.

I agree that this is an easy pass, though. I also agree with @Raiyuki that Hoist’s general shape is a better fit, even though he’s not really big enough to do Bulkhead justice.

I haven’t bitten on this mold yet. I initially thought I’d get the Artfire deco, but I really dislike its head sculpt. The white, chiseled face doesn’t look good to me. If I could get the Artfire body with the toy-style Inferno head, I think I would indulge.

 

...I'd say "cheap cash-in", but nothing 3p is cheap. they stuck an animated-esque head on an unrelated g1 body and made a panel accordion to create the impression of the right sort of altmode. it really does look like a "hasbro churning out something halfassed to keep a trademark alive and silence people who complain about not getting toys of someone" case, except it's not hasbro doing it... I don't understand this figure any more than hasbro's own "legacy" g1-ified bulkhead. alas poor bulkhead.

 

For all the criticism of mold re-use and inaccuracy to the character (that never existed in g1), i’d temper that with what the odds are we’ll get a G1 mp bulkhead from anyone else.

It may be worth looking at this as a “fun” take on mold re-use for a character we would never get in MP otherwise, and nothing more, if you want him represented reasonably on your mp stuff. Pretty sure xtb didn’t design this mold for him.

Otherwise, good luck waiting for the “perfect” g1 mp bulkhead, i guess? What other characters are even available that would be suitable for a better repaint/remold by someone else? U think with all the possibilities of untouched mp characters, this is the one someone is gonna make an original g1 mp mold for? (Would be cool if true, but probably unlikely)

My only ask from xtb is to keep the accessories game up to standard, with the suggestions we’ve all made about heads and hands.

 

I mentioned it once before but I think a redeco of a mold such as Inferno makes a lot of sense for a G1 Bulkhead considering how many G1 characters were simple repaints, especially in Seasons 1 and 2. Hoist might have been a better fit though.

 

Reminds me a lot of bayformers Hound, who reminded me of bulkhead anyway!

 

I always thought that Bulkhead reminded me a ton of Shellshock from Ratchet: Deadlocked  



I do like how Bulwark looks though, even if the head doesn't really match the body too well. He looks more slender thank Bulkhead typically does, but for some reason it just works for me.
