I mean after what they did to all those Looney Tunes projects I wouldn't be surprised if Velma only got aired, because it was finished and the 2nd season was already paid for, and the last 3 Scooby-Doo shows have only had 2 seasons.
I am pretty sure given that Mindy Kaling's own company was producing Velma, that WB gave little else but the name and rights to everything but Scooby to them and was otherwise not really involved. And Scooby Doo as a franchise never dies. It endured for how many decades now? There will be always more movies and shows. Well, these days everything gets leaked sooner or later, it seems people fear reprisals from giant companies less and less (see also the OGL leaks from D&D and you'd think if you messed with Hasbro you would not find a job in the future in the industry... but apparently no heads were chopped off for that either). It's up on you-know-where. Hint: "Kim Possible". A pretty good movie, with a nice twist at the end. Fred is finally not an idiot again and Velma is far less annoying than in the more recent movies. It is also chock-full of references to both DC comics and DC animated shows from WB! Lex Luthor is of course more comedic than he usually is in DC shows (well maybe except for Justice League Action) but I liked the idea that this Lex was already president once, and is pretty miffed when people forget it. Hearing him say "Hah, you said it! No taksies backsies!" to Velma was hilarious. I thought Catwoman in Brave and the Bold had the very first purple-blue outfit? She even had that purple cat-car too that looked like Panthor on wheels. Also, for some reason they made her face really ugly in the first seasons until they thankfully redesigned her by the last better season. It was weird that they made a crossover movie... 10 years after the show ended already. I mean most kids have long moved on by then. But I admit the mystery was pretty good and they managed to use characters they did not use in the show before, like Question, Clayface and Detective Chimp. (And bonus points for getting Jeffery Combs back from JLU to play Question again).
You're right about Selina in the Brave and the Bold series. This Scooby Doo crossover movie was the only time she wore the 1970's outfit, probably to help show a little time has passed since the series proper, so some characters are still updating their outfits.
I think that's the Scooby Doo X Batman: Brave and the Bold crossover movie. Personally, highly recommended watching.
A little sad that almost half the movies on this DVD set aren't worth watching, but I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself here. Witch's Ghost is still worth half the price of the Monster Movies Collection. Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost is maybe a little odd to have on outside of the Halloween season. It has a strong autumnal feel to it between the scenery, the look and the climax. One of the best looking Scooby-Doo movies with a pretty likeable version of the gang. Gotta say that what hurts it compared to its predecessor is that it can basically be cleanly segmented into two parts and both parts feel pretty rushed. There's the hoax witch segment and the one where Ravencroft suddenly decides to start acting sketchy. It's also really distracting how they treat magic and Wiccans in this if you know anything about Wicca. The idea of magic being genetic just seems dumb (sorry Harry Potter) and they frame a real world religion as a good counterpart to evil magic, down to being a genetic trait. I kinda like to imagine that Thorn actually has been unintentionally a Wicca practitioner, but there's nothing about that in this movie. Speaking of Thorn, these are the best Hex Girls that you'll find. In most other projects they're just there sucking up air, but here they're plot relevant and you get some backstory from Thorn. Also, "Hex Girl" is probably their only good song. You'll struggle to find better Scooby content than this, though. I give it a 7.5. Scooby-Doo: Frankencreepy: Much to my surprise the live action movies aren't the only Scooby projects with fart jokes. I've watched this movie three times and always forget there's fart jokes. Honestly, they're not bad. The jokes that suck in this are the quick cuts that get randomly inserted throughput the movie, a "burger-meister" joke, and the small guy in a suit thing. Some of this movie is really nonsensical, like Daphne not realizing she was in an inflatable suit for a big chunk of it despite how obvious the sweating and pressure would be, nobody catching onto the fact that Velma is not the youngest in her family, and the villains' disguises. One of the villains is wearing nearly the same thing as before, just more revealing, and another one of them shows their face to the gang for an extended amount of time. That said, there's a lot of fun to be had in this movie. There's nods to Universal Monsters Frankenstein and earlier Scooby series scattered throughout which are very entertaining for a fan of both like me. The setting is really good and the monster has an unexpected but cool look that makes sense in universe. The art and animation are generally really good and since this is a pre-Micucci Matt era movie, the voice acting is solid. Had a few good jokes in it too, like a small jab at Velma's dress. Solid amount of danger in it too. I honestly hated this one when I first watched it because of the over the top nature, but it's really warmed to me. It has heavy problems but I wouldn't say it's a waste of time. 6/10 Scooby-Doo and the Music of the Vampire: There's no redeeming qualities for this one, I'm afraid. Any get erased by the obnoxious singing and the really stupid vampire hater subplot that feels super out of place in an otherwise normal town. I guess technically the art is good and Matt, Grey, Frank and Cohn are good. I'll throw it a bone even though they're completely overshadowed by the problems. 2/10 Scooby-Doo: Moon Monster Madness Don't know where to start on this one. I guess I thought I could avoid stinkers if I avoided Kate Micucci and guest stars, but the movies fell off a cliff a long time before that. This movie is so boring and has such piss-poor humor that I gave up in the middle of it. The setting and premise already serve as a barrier. While the moon base looks cool (reminds me of Rapture from Bioshock), it's still a giant fucking sci-fi moon base in a Scooby-Doo movie. This setting belongs in Justice League or Ben 10, not in Scooby-Doo. Now, there's been stupid sci-fi stuff in Scooby-Doo before with Cyber Chase but that at least grounded itself with a fun to watch Scooby gang, good pacing, really good art, decent humor and tributes to the franchise. This movie has nothing to it that can hold your attention. They try to give Velma a character arc, but with the jumps between dumb jokes that go on for too long and really uninteresting chase scenes it gets completely drowned out. Here's a couple examples of the humor: There's a scene where a character tries to describe an alien apocalypse, complete with imagine spot, that gets hijacked by the Mystery gang. Each member of the gang separately. With accompanying long ass clips. Back to back. There's a scene where a football player sings in a flowery way which could be funny. But it goes on forever. There's a creepy robot who's whole shtick is being cringy, but they have him appear so often and outstay his welcome every time he appears. This is another one with no real redeeming qualities. At least there's less singing? 2.4/10
Witch’s Ghost is still such a godsend, love the autumn setting. It’s so atmospheric. It almost feels like a Thanksgiving time movie because of it, and because of the big dinner scene - Ravencroft is lucky he died before having to pay that bill, though Scooby and Shaggy shouldn’t have been so gluttonous they took it as a challenge to have lunch paid for them. The Wicca stuff is indeed really silly. I have to say the whole segment when Ben finally reveals his true colors and up until he finally summons Sarah is one of the best moments of the franchise and easily the best non-Hex Girl moment of the movie. That reveal shot of the spell book, the evil looking skull, and the deep, guttural choir that kicks in for a scare chord is one of the scariest things Scooby Doo has ever done. And the way the animation kicks up as Tim Curry is fully unleashed as he finally unleashed Sarah? Awesome. And props to Tress MacNeille for being a terrifying threat in her own right, who you can actually more than buy as putting Tim freaking Curry in his place. I haven’t watched FrankenCreepy, I heard mixed but mostly positive things about it, besides the Daphne’s worst fear getting fat thing.
Scooby-Doo Introduces a Brand-New Version of Mystery Inc. Meet the Wraith Wranglers: Duke, Sensei, Specs, Bongo and Ranger.
Made a nice find on my favorite free streamer Tubi. They added a few more Scooby-Doo shows: - Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo - Scooby-Doo and Guess Who - The New Scooby-Doo Movies - A Pup Named Scooby-Doo They already had 13 Ghosts, Where Are You, and New Scooby Mysteries with Scrappy. This makes for an impressive grab bag of Scooby, although I gotta say that as someone who's picky with guest stars and really felt the decay around the time Scrappy showed up it's probably not for me. Hopefully they snag What's New and The Scooby-Doo Show. It's too bad the Addams Family episode isn't here, or I would've watched it already. Mystery Inc is on Netflix.
I actually read this. Spoiler The other gang are robot fakes designed by Batman himself to throw off Deathstroke and protect the real gang.
Spoiler Between the Teen Titans and the Mystery Gang, Deathstroke is probably sick to death of teenagers (no Terra jokes please)
I'll admit, I watched this film last year when it seemed like it was going to be another permanently shelved tax write-off. It was cute, and I can never say no to more Krypto (this one is the non-talking version). Spoiler Probably the best part of the film is featuring a pretty goofy but still threatening Lex Luthor. Like a mix of Powers Boothe Lex from the "Brainiac Attacks" movie and something out of the "Venture Brothers" (though not as skeevy as the one from "Harley Quinn")
If Scooby Doo and Krypto Too was able to be saved then that means there's still hope for us to see the other shelved Scooby projects like SCOOB Holiday Haunt and the Hex Girls movies be saved as well. If they manage to do that then it'll do a LOT to make up for Velma even if that series has a second season.
Duke - Fred's counterpart. Sensei - Daphne's counterpart. Specs - Velma's counterpart. Bongo - Shaggy's counterpart. Ranger - Scooby's counterpart.
