For the yellow collar, I use this Mr. Color no.4 "Primary Yellow" lacquer paint:

Seriously, Having this in hand this is one of the most solid deluxes I've held all year and quite the looker for his onscreen appearance. Some of the people saying "meh" or 5/10 either hated the character since his inception or are those crazy minority that think Uni 08 hotshot is better. If i was to say anything that is lacking is wrists but let me tell you this is the figure everyone imagined in their head in 2002 when they got the original one in hand. Honestly after having this in hand I have to question others opinions/statements on this figure.

Awesome, thank you! And did you airbrush it on with primer, or just hand paint it on?

I went with hand-painting the yellow collar, by diluting the paint with Mr Color thinner, and paint on a few thin layers until an even finish was achieved.

Mine came in the other day. Overall I like him, but he definitly suffers from Hasbro seemingly de-prioritizing his execution. The plastic feels cheap and brittle, causing some fit problems. The engine gun is ungodly tight when pegged onto the hood of the car. The tabs on the windows meant to plug into the backs of the legs have almost no hold. The use of three-notched ratchets in his knees is baffling, making him harder to pose that he should be (shades of Wild Rider). One of the ankle rocker pins is so tightly in there that it's caused several stress marks on the hinge that worry me long-term (a softer, higher quality plastic probably would have accommodated the tight fit). I'm not normally one to complain about paint matching plastic, especially when it comes to yellow, but the yellow on mine over the windows seems too thin. It's very light; likely needed a second pass. I did get lucky in that the shoulder spoilers stay tabbed in place plenty fine on my copy.

It's a good design, let down by Hasbro relegating him to the B-team for engineering.

Picked this guy up today. This figure feels, and I can't honestly think of a better word, pathetic. It's so empty and weightless, literally and visually. The backpack is huge as is the kibble on the legs. 50% of this toy's mass is off of the main body. The arms are tiny, as are the wheels. The car mode in general looks like ass. The proportions are all wrong. Everythign is an empty shell you can see clear into.

The fit and finish is also just mystifying. The knees are detented, but not the transformation hinges below them. You're more likely to move the transformation hinge than the actual knee, and the kibble blocks you from gripping the hinge itself. The ankle tilts click, which makes no sense. The roof halves connect via a translucent hook tab that's destined to break. Also on mine the goggles are so loose they won't stay up.

I don't get this toy. It's over-engineered to be shittier than it needs to be. All they had to do was take the original transformation scheme and add working shoulders and knees. So many moving parts to get an empty, gimped robot into an ugly, misshapen car. Starscream was disappointing, but at least the advantages are clear there. This toy looks terrible and feels even worse.

I'm really starting to lose the love for this whole "articulation is the only merit a figure can have" mentality that gives us these quality and engineering downgrades that literally only beat the original in terms of posability. The old Armada Hot Shot was panned for being unposable (and with a weird headsculpt that the Powerlinx deco fixed) but it feels ten times more substantial than this. Plus it has a minicon, the bazooka gimmick, the vehicle "attack mode," and the car mode actually looks like a sportscar. They didn't even sculpt the little claw-teeth into the feet for the car mode.

I loved Armada, I love Hot Shot's design, and I hated the Universe deluxe, but this figure just plain sucks. It doesn't even have a rear bumper, just empty space with the bazooka plainly visible.

EDIT: Also am I missing something or does the backpack not click into place in robot mode? I thought for sure something unclicked when first transforming it but now the slightest jostle moves it out and untabs the spoiler from the shoulders. I have to hold it in place when flipping up the bazooka because the hinge on that is way stronger than the hinge of the backpack itself.

Despite 20 years of advancements alongside with 350% more steps than the original toy, it is chronically underpainted, horrid leg kibble (the orange hinge effectively shines a giant damn light on how hollow and atrocious the windshield is), a giant gaping hole in the front on the car so big you can see the leg hinge running through it (and that’s before the pancake proportions and the paper thin front wheels).

Aside from the shoulders not hurting anymore and him actually scaling properly with T30 Starscream, everything else is.

Just got this and I actually like it. I'm a G1 baby in most respects but I do have an affinity for later designs. So far I like the robot mode proportions and I prefer the roof/arm chunks to be on the legs, though I do wish they folded up better. I don't have any pics yet but I painted the tail lights and front bumper marker lights in red. There's a filler/upgrade kit for this though the color matching isn't there so I'll wait for now. I would love someone to make a replacement engine block that splits down the middle and could stay on the hood for transformation but also peg into each forearm for a sweet set of arm guns. I'd also like a wheel filler for the wheel without the 5mm gun barrel for the axelzooka.

For me, I like this. It's nice tohave a new Hot Shot that is more honorable to the original design, and I can also dropkick that Henkei version now. GAWD that thing is a rickety mess. Terrible bowed arms too.

I didn't watch much Armada growing up (my first show was Cybertron) but I loved the PS2 game. As someone who doesnt have a huge attachment to the character, I think this guy looks pretty good. Not perfect but I enjoy it. Definitely better than the Universe 2.0 release.

No real attachment to the character, never seen Armada, but really enjoying Hot Shot.

Perfect use of the 5mm effects port on the axlezooka.

100% better figure than Universe HS PXL_20230203_214753855~3.jpg

FYI the original jolt isn't a 100% fit to the legacy toy, slotting jolt is barely secure due to the arms, and the hyper mode means that the tail of jolt will fully touch the floor.

I seem to have gotten a badly misassembled one. One of the leg pegs is definitely backwards. Totally hidden in robot mode, but can’t transform.

Liking this guy a lot. Tight joints, decent car, fun transformation. Legs are the only real drawback for me.
