I'm both excited for this new part because 1.) Keith David is actually getting his wish to voice a Transformer, and 2.) TARANTULAS!!!!! It's about time that crazy, creepy spider bot got some love, and the screen art image looks downright sick and creepy as hell! I LOVE it! XD

Also, why does Screamy have the blue optics? Seems interesting. Is it part of the plot... or it could just be an animation error... XD

    *GASP*!!! Tarantulas?!!!

I need to find time to watch this series just for THAT!!!

Edit: Honestly, I would have pictured Keith David voicing BW Megatron. Interested in hearing his portrayal of our sketchy mad scientist.

Earthspark is pretty good. But is it better than prime and animated?

So far it's at least better than Prime and honestly I'd say it's got more permanent character development than animated (animated had character development that would immediately revert to the status quo by the next episode, specifically in regards to Bumblebee and Sentinel Prime).

    Hm.

I'd definitely say in some aspects it's better than Prime, depending on how the rest of the series plays out I can easily see it being better.

Animated, eehhhhhh.... that's more of a harder call to make. I'll be greatly surprised if it turns out to be on par with Animated, let me put it that way.

In regards to the which is better topic. I grew up with Animated, I'm a huge fan of it and would've considered it my favourites. However Earthspark is shaping up to be amazing and one of my favourite shows.

So if Earthspark keeps going the way it is in terms of writing, character development, action, fun and heart while upping the stakes then it's very possible it'll end up being better than Animated.

In regards to Transformers Prime, Earthspark is already way way better by a clear mile. Looking back on Transformers Prime, while it has a few interesting or cool elements. It was still a very unfocused, uninteresting show that just reverted back to the status quo and tried too hard to act serious and grandiose. A lot of the characters were uninteresting and/or boring or didn't suit the personalities they had and Optimus was just painfully dull. Most of the designs were eh, still not sure why they were adamant about the lack of noses.

Need at least Earthspark to finish it's first season.

I'll give ES this that Mandroid, atm, is a better human villain than just about all of the ones from Animated. Going back through Animated in the rewatch thread has really soured me on most them whereas I was largely neutral before.

Yeah I definitely agree, Mandroid is a much better human villain as he's more threatening and has an interesting backstory and motives for his actions while having some humourous moments.

Although the human Villains in Animated were fine and served their purpose to give the Autobots some small scale threats (while some were silly it feels intentional) to build up to the Decepticons and to push the angle that the Autobots are more like superheroes.

Although they became more redundant when the Decepticons became more prominent so they didn't do a lot after the first part of season 2 and the show didn't expand on them much sadly.

Although I'd argue the weakest human villains in all 3 shows are Silas and Mech, there are some interesting ideas they tried to set up with them but frankly Silas is honestly forgettable.

The only thing memorable about Silas is that he was voiced by Clancy Brown

Yeah, it's why I was largely neutral on them before. I didn't care for them but I knew the larger purpose they served was to make the Decepticons the bigger deal when they show up, just through going through the rewatch thread has kind of been testing my patience with them.

Though mainly just Headmaster, lol. He's the worst human villain if you ask me.

Yeah I totally get that, they're not my favourite part of the show but they serve their purpose and add some fun hijinks. But yeah some do get a tad annoying or grating, especially Headmaster although thats the point of him as he's meant to be all try hard and cringy but still annoying.

Although Silas still takes worst human villain in my opinion because he's kinda boring and unremarkable and pointless.

Yeah that's the only thing cool and memorable about him. Even then that part is made slightly made redundant as we now got a recent Transformers character who is voiced by Clancy Brown and has the potential to be great.

I wouldn't say it's as good as Animated. Would be happy to be proven wrong with upcoming seasons, but comparing it to the first season of Animated alone I still think Animated comes out on top. I want to say it's better than Prime in terms of the tightness of plotting and its characters. Though it's really difficult to compare a show with only 10 episodes to a show that barely had it's first season underway after it's own first 10 episodes. In terms of telling a story within a first season I'd say Earthspark might be better, or at least more consistent.

While the story of Prime was about "Protecting Earth from the Decepticons" and while the Decepticons had no clear goal or master plan whatsoever throughout the first season, Earthpark provided a villain with a far more clear goal and motivation in Mandroid, despite the core of the show actually being about family and being there for them despite inherent differences.

Earthspark was able to wrap up it's season with Mandroid's plots coming to a head (whereas Prime's first season wrapped up with Unicron kind of just falling into our laps), while also culminating in the Terrans putting what they've learned over the season to the test with their biggest threat yet. Wrapping up both the main antagonist's plot in addition to the arc that the show was about. And while I would have changed a handful of things here and there, it ultimately worked. It didn't end on a lame cliffhanger or anything, it told a small scaled story that ultimately came full circle both it's themes and conflict, making for a tightly packed season for a cartoon.

Isn't the next batch of episodes still season 1? Thought we've only hit the midpoint of the season so far.

Oh dip, I didn't know that. I assumed it was just a short first season. Either way I suppose season 1 of Prime and the first half of Earthspark both serve to act as the completion of a chapter in a sense. I guess that just means we'll be seeing more of Earthspark in the future than I initially thought.

I could be mistaken on how they label it when it gets released, streaming services are weird in that regard (Netflix turned 3 production seasons of Voltron Legendary Defender into 8 broadcast seasons for example).

It is, according to leaks we have about 26 episodes for season one. This next batch will bring it up to 16.
