I agree with the use of the word “CHUGify”. It’s a more accurate way to describe what’s going on here. They are simply new versions of toys that carry some of the key elements of the character from the source material. G1 is a much more specific aesthetic.
I can say that even if Bulkhead didn't have PRIME on his box I'd still think he is shit, because when I think "I hope they do a G1-fied Bulkhead" I hope the character's appeal and personality is there, and Bulkhead is not just a tough guy, he is specifically a chubby lovable oaf and his gigantic arms with shorter legs also help give him a sumo-feel that is super important to evoke Bulkhead's likeness. The design they went with completely failed to feel like him and could pass for any random "macho autobot guy" if the head were different. It would be the equivalent of SS86 Hot Rod coming out but for whatever reason basing his sculpt and design on the G1 boxart instead of using the cartoon's animation model as likeness. Might end up a neat toy but doesn't really scratch the itch.
I would love to see them done. Though personally for characters never done in the original line, I rather have 100% faithful and not G1 hybrids. Hasbro could just place them under the Studio Series banner instead.
That's what I was planning (even tho his . If you were just gonna tell me that then I fail to see why you were making excuses for Hasbro's sake in the first place.
"Making excuses" My man it's a toy, please touch grass My original point still stands, there's not as many advancements in bikeformers compared to carformers because Hasbro hardly ever makes them, coupled with shrinking budgets, and you've got a recipe for a simpler bikemode. It's like how most beast modes just stand up to get into robot mode: if Hasbro made more of them, their engineers would have more experience in making them, and would be able to come up with more and more tricks to get the most out of their transformation on a smaller budget.
There's been like, 10 different bike molds since the og tfa figure. Legacy prowls is way too clunky given that the og is way more clean.
I know it's a toy and I gave my opinion on it and why I personally find it disappointing and you for some reason can't handle that. If you can't fathom that fact then you can just ignore me. Regardless I don't think your point fundamentally makes any sense. Bikes aren't the most common but they literally have existed since G1. But besides that from what I can think of, most major lines have had bikebots. So it's not like they are this "super rare occurrence. Hell even Legacy has had 3 molds including Prowl and SS just got ROTB Arcee. Most of those bike molds from the 2000s and onward haven't been bad either either wether or not they are from mainlines, chug or even the movies. And if we bring up Animated Prowl himself did you even have the original toy? For a figure whose proportions are arguably harder to translate to a toy it managed to pull off a much cleaner bike with a very simple transformation. It was literally a yoga pose and the new one is like 20 steps. It's actually more steps so what's this about shrinking budgets making it "simpler" when it's clearly more complicated. Either way, I had no intention of even discussing this so I am going to stop here as I don't want to derail the thread. If you can't handle the fact I am disappointed in the figure's engineering then you can just ignore me. Don't try bringing up points to somehow make me excuse the figure.
A CHUG-styled Lockdown that preferably takes more inspiration from the original Animated design than the ROTF figure did has been one of my top 3 most-wanted figures since I started collecting again, so definitely that, as well as Lugnut, Slipstream, Sentinel Prime, and Strika. I wouldn't say no to a classic car Jazz either. It's just much more logical from a business standpoint to design all their new figures to fit in with the same current aesthetic rather than to make half the figures in the line designed to fit in with various other toylines from 10-20 years ago. And just because you don't want these doesn't mean it's not exactly what other fans have been wanting.
Who? (Animated was the first TV series to use "Optimus Prime" in its Japanese localization. There was no "Convoy".)
Yup it's very likely plus he has a Voyager listing for 2024 (unfortunately that means he might not have the jetpack).
Same guy. Still hoping Hb/TT releases it as an updated Wingblade set. I own both Ta 01 and Ta 38. Which were awesome for their time. It would be great to have one with the Prowl treatment.
I'm just ribbing you. Especially because he makes it expressly clear during his opening narration that his name is "Optimus Prime".
Convoy is shorter. If Gf got a disappointing update I hope the current team doesn't drop the ball if TFa gets the "treatment" like Prowl.
Legacy Prowl is a chunky guy. Chunky bot = chunky alt mode. I think TFA Prowl has a better bike mode but I like Legacy Prowl’s robot design more. You can’t have both. TFA Prowl’s bike is possible because of the skinny robot mode. I also like the term “CHUG-ify” because even G1 characters got modern stylization. ER Starscream is not G1 Starscream accurate. You know who it is but it’s not Studio Series level of accuracy.
But he didn't need to be. They created an issue the original never suffered from. In regards to DJW's designs: Bumblebee was small, but Prowl was even smaller, so you'd immediately know that he had to turn into a motorcycle. I don't know why they felt the need to make his new toy so chunky. If ER starscream was as much of a departure as this prowl is, we would still be hearing complaints about it in 2023. ER screamer is waaay closer to toon than this prowl is.
