I said it was rarer, I didn't say it didn't happen that characters got upgrades while still alive.

    1. He was dying and was going to die by being eaten by Unicron, so it still counts.
    2. Yeah, you wanna explain how Armada Galvatron -> Energon Megatron works for me there, chief?

Same idea in spirit and you know this - they were GOING to die and needed extensive repairs, so they just take it to the next level and upgraded them. It's funny you call Hoist an exception when, y'know, that's exactly what happened to upgrade Smokescreen into Hoist.

Aligned continuity Prime doesn't even count because HE ALREADY IS THE POST-DEATH UPGRADE. He's the 13th of the original Primes as is all but outright stated in the Covenant of Primus, LITERALLY ROBOT JESUS.

That's because they'd already killed Optimus once in ROTF, and usually the rule is you can't kill Optimus more than once unless it's the end of the series.

Nope, one of the first things confirmed about Scourge is he only takes the badges off dudes he's killed. Thanks, Lorenzo!

Preach brother. Legacy core figures SHOULD be like a $5 impulse buy. At $13 each they've become a "do i really want this?"

Does anyone know if we're getting any rotb 1 steps? It'll be really weird if we don't since they've kinda become a staple of the franchise.

I kinda talked about this before too, but I don't really see Bee or Prime gaining a beast mode as very likely either. Bumblebee we know is already getting an upgrade, so it would be weird for him to get another upgrade not long after. Especially when his Studio Series figure, which is going to be more accurate than the gimmick figures, doesn't seem to have anything to do with one, while still keeping the alt mode that the gimmick figure has. And when there's already two Optimuses in the film, one of which whom turns into a beast, I think it would be too confusing having two Optimuses that turn into animals. And like Bumblebee, Optimus may be getting an upgraded truck mode as well, so similarly to Bee, it would be odd for him to be upgraded that drastically twice in one movie. Most I could see happening is there being some combiner deal, but most of the gimmick line's gimmicks are likely little more than a marketing gimmick, not something actually in the movie.

And what I'm saying is that it isn't rarer, because there are far more examples of Transformers being upgraded while alive (G1 Rodimus, G1 Galvatron, G1 headmasters, Unicron Trilogy guys, etc.) than those upgraded upon being revived.

It does not count as a resurrection upgrade when he is very much alive and was not dead while being upgraded. Being on the verge of death equates to being gravely injured and does not require a resurrection. And the Unicron Trilogy Galvatron to Megatron resurrections are only two examples. Compare that to the five times he is upgraded to Galvatron while alive, and you still have fewer resurrections in comparison to injury upgrades.

I was counting Roadblock, Hoist, and Wing Saber as deaths, exceptions to the rule of the vast majority of Unicron Trilogy upgrades that happen while the characters are still alive. They were resurrected to be upgraded, but all the other non-Megatron upgrades in the Unicron Trilogy (the Powerlinx/Energon repaints and Cybertron Defense upgrades) were upgraded while alive.

That one is a reach and you know it. Either way, Optimus is upgraded into his Beast Hunter form while gravely injured, not while dead.

Nevertheless, they're still two separate upgrades while he's alive. There also is no official rule to that, it's just a trend.

I'm aware of that, which is why I stated that he probably removes the emblem thinking Bee is dead or mortally wounded but is interrupted before he can finish the job. It's not unheard of in Transformers for a character to leave believing he's killed someone when the character is actually barely alive and just gravely injured. We can see Bumblebee is stabbed through the chest, and I wouldn't doubt that Scourge removes the emblem with the same multi-purpose arm while Bumblebee is still impaled. But we know that Bumblebee has survived worse, so either Scourge gets interrupted before he can finish Bee off and/or leaves believing he has killed him.

Yes. Today’s reveals skipped those, smash changers, Spark Racers, Spark Changers, deluxes, and voyagers. So there’s more to come, just from this wave.

I can't wait to see the auto converting figure. This line man, dare I say, it's a bit wild.

well yeah it's got electronic lights and sounds

if you don't want a large bumblebee with electronic lights and sounds and a bird chestbursting out of his sternum, you get one of the many other cheaper bumblebees

I mean you don't think so, but they sure seem to be suggesting that's the inspiration for this figure...
His "offroad" mode isn't really an upgrade though. And just because they're only showing off his off road alt doesn't mean a "Beast Mode" Studio Series figure can't come later. Again, if him gaining a new beast mode is a turning point in the story then the gimmick toy is one thing but the final Studio figure would come after if they want to keep the final appearance secret a bit longer.

Nobody is going to confuse Primal and Optimus. One's a big truck and one's a big ape. If Optimus temporarily gains a beast mode that's a red and blue lion, for example, it'll still be no issue telling them apart. Shit, the toyline already puts multiple "Primes" on the shelf at any given point. And "Leo Prime" is going to be on the shelves pretty frequently as W1 Evolution hits saturation.

Bee had four different alt modes through the course of the Bee movie, three of which lasted for only a scene each. Shatter and Dropkick each had two and I believe were shown to be able to swap between them as needed. Drift and Prime each had two alts during the course of AoE.

The live action universe has established the bots are able to swap alts seemingly on a whim, and at times toggle between them. Nobody is going to be confused if through the course of this movie Bee and Prime each have a starting alt, a jungle alt, and then a climatic beast alt.

Also, most kids who will want to see this likely are used to seeing characters with multiple alts just by seeing toys on the shelf. And if they're already familiar with TF as a whole...it's possible they have seen Rescue Bots which featured a main character with a multicog.

Also idk if it’s true but there is a rumor that Mirage may have more than just the Porshe alt mode in the film.
he might turn into a Lambo Countach, and a F1 car
Yeah I don’t think anyone will get confused about Bee and Prime.

This comment made me laugh from the IGN Page. I own quite a few G1 bots and cons, and most of there transformations were like 3 or 4 steps. , and were literal bricks.

I do love the G1 toys and doubt these ROTB ones will beat them for me. That being said, I seriously don't get the hate this person has for these ROTB figs.

These look so much more fun compared to the SS figures, but it bugs me how cheap they look. I know these are aimed at kids, but these look knockoff quality.

The mainline really continues to be surprising but in good ways. :)  These aren't bad for gimmick toys and I love how they're doing more Beast related characters like this. Especially with how it's pretty cleaver that they have Skullcruncher be a subtle homage to Croc/Gator Megatron from the original BW line. Hope we won't have to wait long for the mainline Deluxes and Voyages because if ones like Airazor and Cheeor are any indication then we're in for a treat.
