Finally got tapes team, MS-B28, not bad but their price/size ratio feels like a rip-off. At least my Soundwave will have company when he arrives.

 

thx for the comparisons. yeah that sux, definitely a pass on this A version. the feet should be silver like the rest to be consistent, and that blacked out chest is a no if you can't see the inside, especially if you can't make out a cassette when inserted.  

guess i'll be sticking with the original and metallic versions.

 

Oh fuck I hadn't noticed the non-transparent chest. Now I'm sad but I had no other choice anyway. At least I only paid 31$ thanks to BBB.

 

you could always wait for the MS-B27-X to drop. i am sure that version will have the clear window, all the correct silver and rumble.

 

LoL, not holding my breath. with MS track record, they prob will mess with us with some other random/confusing colour change.  

 

Weird, just got mine today and it's the same as others are reporting with the right leg missing it. I'd just assumed it was part of the design if others weren't saying (and showing) differently.

 

Got my Soundwave in today and I can confirm that my Soundwave repaint is also missing that filler piece on the leg. I can also confirm that my black Soundwave has the filler piece as well. Must just be something to do with the "A" repaint. Dunno, not the end of the world tho. I do like the new paint job on him, although I could've done without the silver. Don't know why they're so obsessed with silver on these reissues when they end up not matching any of their normal releases. Oh well. Still worth the purchase!

 

So much with you on this, but I'm actually quite annoyed, as I'm passing over a lot.

Huffer was a no brainer, overall, as he looks way more toon accurate than the initial release, in spite of the silver arms (those I could live with).
The Grapple/Inferno 2-pack was definitely more of a mixed bag... Grapple feels to me like a major improvement over the original figure and I love it, while Inferno I'm not so sure. I'm keeping the A version on my MST display, for now, but only because all the silver parts remain somewhat hidden.

With that said, I skipped both Soundwave and Sideswipe, and I'm not happy about it. I prefer the new main recolour - I think it looks great, specially on Soundwave - but the silver just makes no sense to me and would look completely out of place in my collection. :/

I have and love the original toon versions of Megs and Soundwave too, and I’m glad there are options. But overall I think the new Soundwave and Shockwave especially look better than the originals.

 

I've been playing around with this guy the past few days he's pretty awesome. Bot mode is perfect. Looks great in cassette player mode from the front and sides, but wow does the back look bad. I get that there isn't a lot you can do at this scale, but what throws me is it if they had only let the piece that forms his spine pull out a little farther in his alt mode, they could have filled out back really well. That being said, NA is just as bad, so they're both in the same company here.

The cassettes he comes with are interesting. Ratbat and Buzzsaw look as decent as they can in tape mode. Frenzy and Ravage win the "at least you tried" award. Frenzy looks great in bot mode so I'm fine with the compromise. I wish Ravage looked a little better though. Really hope I'll have a chance to get Laserbeak and Rumble as a set.

 

Got mine direct from Magic Square yesterday. Just shy of 3 weeks from his order date, which wasn't bad considering it left in the middle of Christmas shipping. I gotta say, I like it more than I thought I was going to. I wish the blue was a little bit closer to Acoustic Wave, but he still looks pretty sweet. Joints are tight on him, no floppy arms, legs, shoulders, hips, or ankles. The biggest issue I had was getting the barrel on his gun to slide all the way out. I was really afraid I was going to snap the peg off of it. I think the only things that I wish came with it were a Laserbeak, and maybe a few more hand options. Otherwise, Magic Square has really hit it out of the park with this guy.

 

Received today!! Really good figure, especially for that price. Very glad for this repaint. Great vfm.

super happy to have him he looks great with the other decepticons, hopefully a 2.0 Starscream will come out someday, he just doesn’t fit in super well with the other three who all push hard on the toon accuracy

 

For anyone wanting a comparison between 27A (left) and 27M (right):

 

If they were going to make the chest window opaque, I wish they would've painted it metallic blue to better match the animation and the windows on most of the MS Autobot cars. Making it black is a strange choice.

 

Is there any place that still has the original version available?

 

sadly no. they are only available on the secondary market. last time i checked they were going for like 150 a pop basically.
