i'm confused, you said they took that direction with BB 2.0. what direction are you referring to if not going more overly simplified toon alt in your initial reply to me?

i do not find that BB 2.0 is overly toon simplified, and i think it's sculpt and styling fits fine with the old jazz, datsuns, van bros, as well as mirage alts.

 

  Ok I understand the misunderstanding. You mentioned that you liked the real-life altmodes in the first post so I'm assuming you didn't like BB 2.0 since it's much more toon. Now I understand that you don't think it's very toon, but to me it is and very much too. I thought you would prefer something like the old Masterepiece MP-21 which is much more like the original Beetle than the 2.0 Takara or Newage which are very chibi/toon  

 

for me BB v1 and more so BB v2 is more chiba than say toon accurate. where i think chiba retains a lot of details/style/lines of real world, but distorts the proportions to make it more short and or squat. toon accurate is more devoid of details, lines and are very generic geometric shapes/panels, which i don't find BB v2 as. i would say the alts for the their constructicons are more toon'ed.

I've got a request for anyone who picks up Ironhide or Ratchet. I have NA SG Soundwave but I think it was more interesting when that version of the character was a van. I'd like to see if Soundwave's headsculpt can fit on Ratchet/Ironhide. If so, I may try my hand at customizing my own SG Soundwave as I find it unlikely that NA will release their own in this mold.

 

Got my Ironhide yesterday, and Rachet will arrive today. Idk if I missed something, but damn if that slider for his back/waist isn't loose as a goose, I feel disappointed that it doesn't have a positive lock. it just feels very floppy, kind of like the situation with MS Windcharger's backpack. I would see it on an MS product, but every newage figure I have is rock solid typically...

Ok, so I was wrong, Rachet arrived about an hour ago, transformed him and there is a positve lock to the spine/slider, just gotta give it a little force. Much much better, now I give these 2 five stars

 

I like these two in hand. The panel lines actually quite nicely break the 'cleaness' of the toon animation model. The big forearm sleeves are still ugly but not as bad as the pictures make them seem. Wish the sled was fully painted though and that the missle launcher bit was also articulated at the feet.

I'm happy to have them, but of the recent NA releases these are definitely on the weaker side. But then again we got a couple of really good figures in a row ; Cyclonus, Grimlock, Arcee, Skyfire, Grapple, Inferno..

 

My little guy finally showed up today! Some of his joints are a little tight…but that beats floppy any day. The transformation is great, and he feels really premium. The paint and finish are great, and I like the proportions more than any other legend Ironhide I have. His alt mode is less accurate than the MS, and he isn’t as easy to pose due to the stiffer joints and, in some areas, reduced articulation range. But, I think he’s probably my overall favorite legend Ironhide so far. Not that you could go wrong with the MS either. Anyway…

How does the paint around Ratchet’s windshield look for you guys? Looks unfinished to me like it could use another coat.  

Hey, I wanted to do a head swap for you but scared to break the peg. It’s on there pretty tight and the peg seems very delicate.   It does look very close in size though.

Finally received Ironhide and Ratchet but only opened the latter so far. I have to say, NewAge's stock photos are doing no favors for these guys. Ratchet looks great in hand but the photos are so crazy stark. From everybody else's photos thus far, it looks like Ironhide fares similarly. I can't wait to see what's next - there was a rumor of Sideswipe but Wheeljack would be awesome too.

 

I agree. Ironhide is definitely better in-hand. I kind of expected that since pictures often tend to exaggerate “issues” on figures this small. For example, those holes on the sides of his chest in bot mode pretty much disappear in-hand. And, pictures simply can not convey how solid they feel. $52 is still a lot of money for a figure this tiny, but I feel a lot better about it now.

 

Dang, do those masterpiece ones look dated... Magic Square and Newage really blow them away!

 

Lol I think they weigh the same. I don't mind the lack of heft in the MPs, but it's an odd sensation to handle them after so long

How do You keep the jetpack straight?
The part that the jetpack is connecting to is very floppy on my figure and makes it lean backwards.
