Cartoon Dinobots would be sweet.

 

Despite some people being upset about the direction of this line, I think Dinobots would be a huge seller. I could also see people disliking a toon only version of the team, and they would be right. Everyone has been asking for reissues for years and to only get a toon themed set would be frustrating for some. I’d be all in on a toon set as I’ve already got originals. A swoop with grey wings and a blue chest would look sick.

 

I think the Dinobots could be a decent seller in both toon and toy decos, really. I’d probably be interested in a toon Swoop. With this new G1 toon deco series, it will bring some renewed interest in the old molds…as long as they can keep the prices reasonable. I seem to recall the TRU Commemorative series being relatively pricey back in the day (like $20 or $25 for an Autobot car, maybe?).

 

I think I did alright for not having looked at most of them for years. I do vaguely recall the hook part but not the eyes though.

Interestingly, the TFW entry disputes both. Guess I'll have to dig up my copy to be sure.

$30 for the cars (excluding Hotrod). People were mad about it at the time. But it was more of "they're not worth that" than "Hasbro is robbing us" vibe to it. Looking back, I guess it was a little expensive, but it was like six releases per year and vintage prices were triple that so it wasn't as acute.

 

I just remember pacing the floor at the store…on multiple occasions…trying to decide if I wanted to drop that much coin on them. I ended up getting most of them, as I recall. They all got sold a long time ago, sadly….need to dig up an old collection pic to remember what I actually had. I don’t think I ever actually opened any of them (which was the case for a lot of stuff I bought back then).

 

I was the opposite. I drove out to Toys R Us every week hoping to find them. I was so mad that the last four were such a fight and madder still that we were robbed of a rumored tenth wave with Ironhide and Ramjet.

But at the time, TransFormers was just about all I was collecting. I had literally five or six Marvel Legends and Nintendo was carrying the GameCube all by itself.

 

The only other thing I collected at the time was a small handful of Robo Force items…which could be had for next to nothing back then. Everything else was TFs…I was just cheap…lol…

 

Yeah totally, I don't remember 90% of the stuff you listed. This is my Grapple. I had the ehobby reissue before and specifically got the TRU one since it had blue eyes.


But back to Hound's casemate, was there a size class mentioned?

I can only speak on the figure I received, but I’m not impressed. I own the Commemorative Series Starscream and the recent vintage exclusive, both of which are gorgeous; the quality control on this figure is a disaster. The paint on his face is a splotchy mess, the rubber cone is stained and slightly torn, the line across his cockpit is made of two decals that don’t align. And, although a matter of taste, the colors make him look a little cheap. The vintage KOs look better. I might still get Hound since he’s never been reissued in the US, but seriously considering cancelling Hot Rod. I hope this is only the case with mine, just disappointing.

unfortunately, it’s been well established the original molds for the Dinobots have been destroyed for quite some time. Their only choice would be to remake the molds by scanning an existing set of Dinobots, and I’m not sure Hastak is willing to put that much effort into it.

 

They did for the Beast Wars reissues.
