Totally. He says "For a figure to be here, I would say it needs to transform mostly similarly to the original (sorry Mirage) into the same alt mode or a modernized take on the alt mode if not available otherwise." But it seems arbitrary to exclude Mirage for his faux chest and Ratchet for his feet forming the back of the van, but to include Tracks, who also has a faux chest. And what about Trailbreaker and Hoist's arms folding up under the hood instead of laying flat along the sides? What about SS86 Ironhide is remotely similar to the G1 toy? Why is one thing good enough but another thing isn't? I'm just seeing personal bias all over the place here. Which is fine, I mean, where else can personal bias flourish more than in your own personal collection, but nothing being presented here is objective. For me, personally, Mirage is fine, Tracks is fine, the other cars are all fine, but that Megatron would never even enter my house.
All of them are fine. I love my modern collection. This is definitely not an objective list. A lot is left out.
This would be an objective list: 1984 Autobots Autobot Commander Optimus Prime (Earthrise 2020) Autobot Cars Wheeljack (Earthrise 2020) Trailbreaker (Earthrise 2020) Ironhide (Studio Series 86 2022) Ratchet (Earthrise 2020) Hound (Buzzworthy Bumblebee 202?)(unannounced officially) Mirage (Kingdom 2021) Sunstreaker (Earthrise 2020) Jazz (Studio Series 86 2021) Sideswipe (Kingdom 2021) Bluestreak (Earthrise 2020) Prowl (Earthrise 2020) Autobot Minibots Brawn (Titans Return 2017) Bumblebee (WFC Netflix 2020) Huffer (Kingdom 2021) Cliffjumper (Earthrise 2020) Windcharger (Titans Return 2018) Gears (Thrilling 30 2014)
Decepticons 1985 Triple-Changers: , Constructicons (Unite Warriors, 2015) Mixmaster is changed a bit too much for my taste. I'm hoping we'll get a new Devastator where the Constructicons are about as tall as Grapple/Hauler/Inferno this or next year. Insecticons Bombshell does not have a new figure yet, but I'm betting he'll be released sometime. Deluxe Insecticons Missing: ChopShop, Barrage, Venom Shockwave Reflector (toy deco, then cartoon deco) Unfortunately you'd have to buy three of the Scrapface (right) to make a camera. Seekers: Cartoon-Only Seekers and G2 decos: Rainmakers Group (Acid Storm, Ion Storm, Nova Storm) These guys remained in their Cybertronian form in G1, so it would be appropriate here for them to remain that way in a modern figure. Sunstorm, Hotlink, Bitstream Sunstorm and Bitstream have classics molds that doesn't scale with the newer WFC molds. Hotlink has a badly colored Tetrajet from WFC with two targetmasters: This should be more purple than this. Blast (Black Thrust): no toy yet Nacelle (Red, White, Blue Thrust): no WFC mold yet, just classics Red Wing (not in G1 cartoon, but released in WFC nonetheless): Slipstream (female seeker, not in G1 cartoon): no WFC mold yet Background Seekers without toys: (Ultimate Doom seekers) (Dark Awakening Seeker) (More Than Meets the Eye 2, 3) Other unreleased / prototypes: Sandstorm (desert Ramjet): Generations Selects Blackout (Black Starscream): none Jungle Starscream: none Cloud Ramjet: none
Hang on. You've included Siege Jetfire, who you've referred to as Skyfire, as an analogue to a Jetfire that transforms into a completely different space-plane from a completely different robot - but being able to see Ratchet's feet is still grounds for disqualification? Ah. Fair play, you got me. I really did think you were being serious. Nice troll.
Transformers Autobots 1986 Again, only the new bots, since I did the others already beforehand. Triple Changers: , , Sandstorm has a Japanese Generations (2013) figure, but it's not the same helicopter or dune buggy as the original. Metroplex (Legends 2018) Studio Series 86: , , , Newer Buzzworthy Kup and Velocitron Hot Rot have slightly more accurate decos to the movie and toy, respectively: Mini Vehicles Tailgate is a 2017 Power of the Primes figure. Swerve is a Legends class figure from 2015 that is kind of close, but not really. Missing: Outback (technically there is a Power of the Primes version, but like Brawn is not what I would consider close enough) Sky Lynx (Earthrise) Protectobots (Unite Warriors 2015) Aerialbots (Unite Warriors 2015) Ultra Magnus (2021) This isn't that great a Magnus, because (1) the truck isn't a reuse of WFC Kingdom Prime, which would be better overall for proportions, and (2) the trailer doesn't look like the original toy. But if you like this, go for it.
I don't believe we're ever going to get another Walther P-38 Megatron in the mainline (i.e. not Masterpiece). That's not "sus," that's recognizing facts.
I did include "Skyfire," because that's the character's cartoon name, and the toy is a cartoon-version. I don't believe that we'll see a G1 / VF-1S Super Valkyrie toy considering legal issues. Jetfire (the Valkyrie) is released by a 3rd party but very limited so good luck getting one: Besides, I grew up on the G1 cartoon, and I heard his name as "Skyfire" so that's what I call him. I don't get calling him Jetfire, so I'm not going to do that.
Despite the fact that the updated toy you've placed in your list is called 'Jetfire', and the original toy in the promotional image you're using for reference is called 'Jetfire'? I suppose my question is: What does what a character was called in a cartoon have to do with a toy-based list of updated toys of Transformers toys? (Oh, and you should probably take Sixgun and Slammer out, according to your 'rules'). Anyway, I'm really enjoying this list. Good work.
Decepticons 1986: Movie figures: , , , , , There is a cartoon deco, and a toy deco of Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge. Both versions are okay to me. You may have a different opinion and we can agree to disagree. Gnaw Triplechangers (2017): Unlike the original, this is a headmaster also, and the airplane mode isn't too terribly close to the G1, but the truck and bot mode appear to be from what I can see. Cassette: Battlechargers: Trypticon (Titans Return 2017) Full-Tilt is a headmaster, unlike his G1 predecessor. Combaticons (Unite Warriors) Stunticons More toon based than G1 toy based, the limbs here are not Scramble-City limbs (completely interchangeable), unfortunately.
Yes, despite that. The original and altered character models: Apparently the toy was called Jetfire, but they had to alter the character model to look less like the Valkyrie. Since it didn't look enough like the toy, they changed the name to Skyfire. The toy above looks like Skyfire (toon), not Jetfire (toy), so I called him Skyfire.
The Unite Warriors (Combiner Wars) versions of the figures are the closest modern versions, but are definitely far from perfect. Most Legacy and Generations Select versions are very well done, aside from minor problems (Cliffjumper, Bumblebee, Goldbug, Hubcap having a back shield rather than a connected piece).
I’m confused, are you going for a cartoon or toy perspective? Cause you have toy exclusive characters and cartoon exclusive characters. You have cartoon characters in toy decos. I am lost.
