If they made masterpiece g1 animation accurate dinobots, would you buy?

I personally will never buy another non-toon, or rather not-screen accurate since I do buy mpm, figure again (well outside of original designs like MMC IF Kultur). I really enjoy the simplified designs since they look as if they've walked right out of the screen! I know there are a TON of people on this site who either grew up nostalgic for the toy designs or just despise the cartoon designs, but I would really love some animation accurate MP Dinobots whether they are from Takara or a Third-Party company. I love Newage's Grimlock because it just feels like an incredibly high quality design. Of course this is all subjective to me and I know a lot disagree. I also personally cannot stand chrome and don't care for it at all.

I'd guess they would look something like this:
MK-6 Toys Grimlock (KO NEWAGE Grimlock)

I think Sunbow Devastator and Dinobots are the largest untapped market right now for third party Masterpiece scale.

well i was never into super toon - walk off the screen looking flat type style. for dinobots, seeing newage's grimlock (espeicially in that toon deco) solidifies for me i don't want dinos that are too toony. for instance grimlocker lower leg outsides are plain with no texture o details at all. it looks off to me. to me (as an owner of all the g1 dinobots except for swoop), dinobots can't have toon flat panels...they always had textures and details and yes chrome and clear parts. FT was wise to let the toon influence guide some of their design choices and to let the memories of the g1 toy guide some of their other choices with regard to the dibots. They did not remove stuff that people liked from g1 toys and they added stuff (cartoon accuracy to a point) that people were starting to clamor for at the time. i picked them up at the time and at the time i would have called them toon accurate (Because they were the most toon accurate dinobots ever at the time, no?) because at that point that is what i wanted....some kind of adhesion to the overall design from the toon. now that the pendulum has swung way way over to super toon accurate 3D cartoon figures i look back and think....those dibots really pushed to be more toonish but they happen to release at a time when i was HAPPY with the level of toon influence in MP/3PMP - it was i'd call it toon leaning hybrid look. to me its what i wanted then and close enough to what i think is ideal now. if i had to do it over again now, i'd probably pick gigapower's more toy leaning hybrid look look with deper scultping, more details etc. the only thing that turns me off of them is some random deco choices they make. in fact i was impressed enough by the GP dinos to actually pick up their superator (grimlock)....he may lead the iron dibots one day in place of grinder.

No, 3p should do something else. And i do not want more toon accuracy than what already exists, prefer the “ideal mixture of toy/toon/etc”.

Nope, not whatsoever.. I'm not interested in the cartoonish look, and the SS86 are pretty much what the question is about.. an upgraded version of that.

The reveal of the SS86 pushed me towards looking what was out there, as I love the POTP version that were the G1 toy in modern engineering for articulation, and the Volcanicus thing grew on me more than I expected... I ended up getting an upgrade kit as Volcanicus was just so skinny and such, but I still wanted larger. So with that SS86 pushing me, I considered the POTP OSKOs but that would result is the same issue of a skinny Volcanicus, and while bigger, they weren't big enough... so I checked the 3rd parties and ended up going with GCreation (Shuraking) as they had that G1 toy appeal to them in a Masterpiece esthetics with the chrome, etc., the full weapons, etc. and while the combining is a bit of a pain and the sturdiness of the legs is where it suffers, it is an incredible Volcanicus, and they are at the size that I wanted... Big but not overly huge.

Literally no characters who would suffer more from the "total toon accuracy" trend than the Dinobots. Give me silver with mechanical detailing over flat grey surfaces any day.

I wouldn't buy them myself (chrome gold and smoky translucent plastic all the wayyyyyy), though I'd be rather happy if they got made regardless! More options for collectors are never a bad thing.

    NOT really...

I'd rather just get in legends size or legends size+ (ie NA / MS / etc...). I would personally prefer just MP Minibots / Sharks / Cars and other things that are not so big.

I already have 3 GP dinos (readily still available and they keep re-issuing them) and they take a full shelf on their own. They lack articulation and modern engineering though, i know, and legends scale would be much more affordable and space efficient for such scaled bots, but these are great fully blingy dinos that i love.

BUT... there is one i can be persuaded for (even if i am in TF retirement by then), in toon with great articulation and updated engineering, and that is an FT or MP Slag. However, i would still want it to come with additional exchangeable bits from the toon: red horns, black/grey face with red eyes, and black exchangeable thigh. Yellow bits instead of Chrome or Gold suits me fine.

No. I always loved the silver and gold chrome of the G1 toys. It is why I purchased the recent Gigapower reissues. They are literally everything I wanted from MP Dinobots. Cartoon accuracy holds no interest for me.

I can think of several that would get more negative feedback for looking like the Sunbow model. A lot of the vehicles wouldn't have mirrors, headlights, and taillights. A lot of the wheels and tires would look the same.

Not interested at all in more Sunbowformers, I'd be happy if Hasbro finish the Studio Series version. But I guess enough people would love them, so go ahead. The more, the merrier.

I think the most likely course of events is that Takara will eventually release a Grimlock 2.0, and how that looks will set the bar for how a new set of MP dinos will look. XTB are probably waiting for Takara's Grimlock 2.0 so they can make the other dinos in the same style. Maybe Star Toys or a new branch of Black Mamba will do the same as well.

MP scale is too much for me. I don't have the shelf or the wallet. I'll stick to Newage.

    me personally no

i went with gigapower, these days my wallet is a lot tighter so my days of just buying what i like are over
But even if money was no object i think i would pass to, seeing newage's grimlock the toon version has made me feel that the toon look aint for me if given the choice.
However i'm sure there are plenty that dig it and would love toon accurate dinobots, but i feel like a lot of people are in the same boat as me they either have one set ie fanstoys or giga and are looking for other chracter's that aint been done

This is an area where you can pretty much do what you like, what i mean is that you will get people like me that will say " toy or toon or hasui, whatever as long as it's good" and are willing to part with there money, another set of dinos?
    NAh not for me

    just my own personal opinion

I'm pretty curious what Magic Square's sorcerous designer can do, but I'm mostly out of mp-scale figures that aren't official. My 3P purchases are largely legends-scale these days, unless something unique comes along.

Of course. Why do you think I don't own any MP dinobots yet? It's because there are no cartoons accurate MP dinobots yet.

Nah… some characters I like in toon style. But Dinobots in particular lose so much of their charm when toonified. Toy-based dinos all the way, with gold chrome, silver plastic and the all-important smokey clear bits over gold greeblies.

Hell, if it were possible I’d still want them to have Diaclone cockpits, haha! But that’s not really a reasonable request. :)

Nope. I'm done with that part of my collection. Completely content with my Gigapower Dinobots in all of their glittery, massive glory.
