Knowing that something has feathers isn’t the same as knowing the color of the feathers.

I certainly can’t speak to his involvement with the current film, but at that year’s Botcon, Hasbro made it very clear that while the TF team brought some reference materials, names, and other suggestions, Bay was very much the final decision on who was included in the first film, what they looked like, and what color they were.

I stopped buying Transformers after DotM because they became too expensive and these prices doesn't make me want to get back into it. When I bought the 4P AoE Galvatron for about £60 which is massive, unbelieveably detailed and well-made, it's hard to justify paying 2/3 the cost for something 1/100 the quality. I know that's not a fair comparison because the two figures are for different audiences, but for many, cost is becoming a major factor in collecting. I have to hope that Armada Optimus is going to be worth the commander price point when back in the day not only were leaders £40 (and he had so many gimmicks and features), but I got him on sale for £10.

When I was a kid we would go on trips to places like Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Colorado. The souvenir shops in these places always had a very large assortment of copper pencil sharpeners that were in the shapes of various things. Cars, trucks, planes, animals, any replica of any National landmark you could want. I always thought it was odd how ubiquitous they were, and why copper?

Anyway this new line of movie toys reminds me if that.

Hopefully we'll see what the full body was like.

In terms of realism, they are already mostly metal animals with all the skin/fur torn off so realism in terms of color is out the window. But beyond that, beast wars already had a solution to that 20+ years ago, with the robot parts that appear having color on them. Since they get hidden away and are unique to the robot modes, it makes sense they can be colorful despite a monotone beast mode.

Oh! That looks rough. I think I'll just get the mainline version instead.

From interviews and other things around the making of 07, it was very much a give and take. Hasbro mostly let Micheal Bay do his own thing when it came to design and character choices, but also wasn't afraid to put their foot down on things like Optimus Prime's head design.

As for ROTB, I doubt Bay is anything more than a name attached due to contracts that just nets him an easy paycheck and maybe a seat in the meeting room if he goes.

Meh. They're no less monochromatic than the majority of the live action designs since 07. Both in the films and in Studio.

So in that regard they fit right in. For better or worse. I'd like more color in general but that's the aesthetic they decided on.

Okay why does the cheetah head look like a shaved bear head? I guess that settles it all the ROTB maxi's are just bears. Cheetor: really skinny bear. Rhinox: bear with curved rock on his nose. Primal: bear standing upright. Airrazor: bear with giant leaf wings.

In all seriousness I really wish Hasbro would stop using that color for figures. It just doesn't look good. Design wise it's pretty basic for a movie figure. That's not bad but you look at the head and it just lacks the detailing you'd expect. Robot mode not a huge fan of the itty bitty claws on his hands. Otherwise I don't really have anything against him. I'm not particularly interested in this version either.

Last thing his head totally is Cybertron Snarl and not Cheetor *beelines it out of the thread*

If it's not properly preserved, yes, DNA will quickly break, down.

But, if it's, say, been stuck in Permafrost for millennia, there's a very good chance it'll survive long enough for something like this to happen:

except in poor Wheeljack's case... Hopefully that just means the opposite is true and his head in his SS figure will be more g1-inspired. Just maybe...

wow that looks really cool! It's really not a bad sculpt at all, the colors and lack of paint just really let it down.
