I've seen people claim this, I don't see any G1 or RID Scourge in this, unless we're talking absolute base elements like "Truck mode" or "sharp claws." He's not even a black truck in the film. If anything, he looks more like someone merged DOTM Megatron and The Fallen.
As far as it being a a new interpretation: It's nothing exciting, but it's better than Wheeljack, I guess.

 

Because there’s a very vocal group of individuals who go around voicing their dislike for pretty much anything ROTB, and it drowns out any positive discourse. Not saying they can’t voice their opinion, but it makes the boards seem more negative overall.

Come to think of it, he does look like TLK Optimus Cosplaying as Dotm Megatron, i just find it odd that they didn't do something more interesting to this design, heck come to think of it Battletrap & Nightbird would have more interesting villain designs compared to "Grey N' Generic Scourge"

Well it's the facial hair, the relation to Unicron, again truck mode like you said, the fact he leads his own team like g1 scourge who were even called sweeps in the novelization, not saying they will be the sweeps but its a connection. He most likely was gonna be more similar but was changed more and more as production went, we still haven't seen him in the movie. Don't get why these are more surface level than saying than he looks like the Fallen because he is lanky and has a firey effect. Fallen didn't even come to my mind until I saw people here mentioning it. There is definitely DOTM Megatron in there though.

I am interested to see how this will play out than being actually excited and hope that he is atleast fun. The best part about Wheeljack is that his head on the toy is easily replaceable.

Haven't you said that you are a fan of this guy who falls into the exact category and is frankly even more "shameless" in those aspects than ROTB Scourge?

Scourge's role in ROTB is described as something like a bounty hunter of sorts. Meanwhile, Superlink's Grand Scourge was a Matrix Hunter working for Unicron.

 

Where's the claw and stolen badges on RID Scourge?

Like, I don't hate ROTB Scourge or anything, (he's just too plain IMO) but there's a valley of difference between a rusted, jagged, and overtly threatening design and what is literally just Optimus Prime in black. That was always the dignity of RID Scourge, that he was just an Optimus Prime in dark colours, with nothing physically changed about it.

Again I argue that if ROTB Scourge had leaned more into being "edgy" with more studded spikes, kibble, and extraneous elements, he'd be more well-regarded than this pretty plain and (IMO) simplistic design. Hell, the truck has more character than the robot mode.

 

Well this is TFW2005 afterall, remember people lost their marbles cause WJ has a different head design in this new movie and that lasted for a couple pages.

Fixed. I mean, people seemed to really like that BB design. The Cybertron scenes were hailed as the best part of that movie by some.

Maybe the lack of hype for this movie is because it doesn't look very good to a lot of people? Like is the implication here that fans should just automatically be excited for a new film, regardless of whether or not the content we've seen actually excites us?

 

Yes. Our job as fans is to consume product and participate in hype culture, all that matters is that more content is on the way. Nothing else matters.

 

Because it sucks. First the movie gets delayed, we get the trailer with godawful CGI, and some pretty terrible designs. Plus, it seems like the director doesn't know jackshit about transformers. It looks like he just enjoyed the Michael Bay films, looked up what beast wars was and said "alright I'm gonna make a movie now!". We finally have the chance for a decent transformers movie and that's what we're hoping for but that doesn't seem likely.

Okay guys, Scourge bad, Terrorcon bad, Wheeljack bad, director bad, ROTB bad.
Now can we talk about what will happen in the book? Will it be a complete adaptation of the film?

 

The cybertron stuff are the only things worth rewatching from that movie and even then why is such a problem cause they decided to do something different. For a franchise that's about transforming robots, a part of its fanbase is very closed minded.

As for the reception I've seen more positive reactions towards the trailer and movie so far outside of this site. The movies are meant to be able to bring new fans and cater to different people. Not just a small minority of the fanbase that will never be happy no matter what.

I'd rather be open minded and you know actually judge the movie when I see it instead of complaining and being miserable like some people here over every piece of news, toys or art that comes out of this movie.

 

I like both Scourges but I just found her point a bit weird considering that if we boil down RID Scourge to that level, he is the embodiment of those Sonic Devianart OCs that were just darker palette swaps with the most generic backstories. Not saying that RID Scourge should've been more than what he is, I just do not get her line of thinking. Nothing more, nothing less.

Movie comics stopped because of IDW losing the license for Transformers-related material. So they can't publish anymore Transformers comics, not even movie prequel ones.
