Swapped the head, gun and shoulder cannon onto the original Sideswipe. Made a quick pic and even faster edit. Looks good.

    I’ve done it, it’s fine.

Looks like I won the MS lottery. The left arm bicep swivel will not move and as far as I can tell, it's because they jammed the peg in backwards. There's a fixed 90 degree rotation for the transformation, and it looks like it was put in backwards.
I'm also noticing paint chipping on both arms near the bicep and a slight smudge of blue paint on the hood. Probably my most disappointing MS experience so far. Hopefully ShowZ will be able to send me a new arm, I wonder how hard it will be to pop out of the joint.

Looks great. Wish I had the original to do the same thing.

I wish they would reissue a painted white and red version but he's still great! Check out the review!

Same thing happened to mine, but it's the right arm. This is the image I sent to ShowZ aftercare. I tried loosening it with a heat gun, tried popping it out with a screwdriver - I can't get it to budge.

if i had to guess i would say it is just extra flashing on the peg.

try a bit of silicone oil and see if that seeps in enough to turn it. then you can trim off the excess with an xacto knife.

that or you can just pop the peg out. what i do when they are like this is place something under the joint on the elbow side to bring it all up. then give it a nice push down and the extra leverage usually pops even the worst pegs out.

after that just trim it a bit and it should all work nicely.

That's his left arm in your photo?

I actually got mine fixed! Ditto on trying everything. I had tried popping it out with a screwdriver from the slots on the side and even trying to see if I could get an xacto in between the peg and the sides to free it up. I had given up and opened a ticket to ShowZ.

On a whim last Saturday, I decided to see if I could pop the pin with a pin pusher I recently got, and get better access to the joint. Long story short, I removed the screw in your photo and the panel it held, while trying to get a better angle on the peg and pin on the joint. After pulling off that section of the arm and its pin, all of sudden I was able to get the peg to rotate correctly. No idea why that worked. Best I can figure with closer access to the joint, I was able to get better leverage on it and unjam it? I definitely felt like I was putting enough pressure on the arm to break at the base of the peg before I took it part.

I emailed ShowZ and cancelled my replacement part.

After all that I'm still having mixed feelings on the guy. Not a fan of side panels on the legs and how they transform. The lower half transformation feels "wrong" when connecting it to the transformed upper body. The held sculpt is much better than the OG release, but his face looks too angry, and I really wish he could look up and down. That being said, I do like his overall profile. It just could use some updating.

My copy just arrived today from ShowZ. I ordered him to have a Sideswipe stand-in until Newage or Hasbro gets around to doing him. I can forgive the massive height difference for now. Mine has extremely tight joints, and I cannot for the life of me get the shoulder launcher attached. That really disappoints me, as I am all about the shoulder launchers.

So did anyone get the Sideswipe repaint who already had the original who wants to sell that original?

Even at the low price, I’m not sure this figure was worth it. I’d say it’s on the low end of mediocre. I don’t think I’ve even picked it up since that first day it arrived.

For a few dollars more I could have bought another IF toy, and those have never disappointed me. I would recommend anyone that’s thinking of buying this to wait for a 2.0. It’s not even close to modern Magic Square standards.

I agree 100% with everything you said. His alt mode - which is most important to me - is quite disappointing. But this doesn't seem like a character high on the 2.0 list. It seems the only one to get that treatment is OP, right?

You’re probably right. We probably shouldn’t expect a 2.0 unless by chance they decide to do Sunstreaker. If they make Yellow Bro to the standard of their Hound or Mirage, then I think Sideswipe would almost have to be revised to match.

I’m like you— I prioritize the alt modes, and that’s what really misses the mark on this one. Robot mode is fine. Transformation is fiddly, and not very fun. I can’t say I completely regret the purchase, but I probably wouldn’t have made it if I’d handled the figure beforehand.

I’d have been all over a straight rerelease in the original colours.

The painted rerelease wouldn’t match the rest of Magic Square bots so I skipped in hope of a 2.0.

I only bit on the repaint because of the extra paint, just as I waited until Hound got the darker green plastic and silver touches before I bought him. I’m still hoping MS issues a silvered-up Mirage because the baby blue doesn’t appeal to me at all.

Is anyone else having trouble completing alt-mode with these specific tabs? I tried it when I first got him, got frustrated, and packed it away. Tried it again and it just will not tab in correctly. I've tried everything, short of crushing it in my hands. Typical Magic Square, once you untab one thing, something else comes loose.

Either this mold is a piece of garbage or I got an oblong figure that wasn't QCed.

EDIT: Yeah, fuck this figure. Absolute garbage. Done with Magic Square. If anybody wants this piece of shit, I will ship it to you for the shipping fee. Otherwise it's going in the bin. Fuck Magic Square.

It’s just not a very good design— it’s an early figure that’s not really up to modern MS standards— and QC has never been a company strong suit, even today. I wouldn’t judge MS solely on this figure, though.
