I'm back down the road of 1:1 scale Matrix of Leadership. Metal casing, opens, lights up, maybe even plays The Touch. Nice display stand. If they could bring that in at $150 or under, I think they could get 8,000 backers, or 11,000, or whatever. And about 80,000 comments disappointed that that's the vaunted "40th Anniversary Haslab." But it is what it is, at this point there's been so much speculation with "40th Anniversary" attached that no one can imagine it being anything less than solid gold awesome, and it just isn't going to be that.

This remains one of the worst ideas for a haslab. I can't imagine they want the 40th anniversary Haslab to be the most controversial, but making a prop instead of a transforming figure would be a definite way to do that.

If there was real demand for something like this, a third party company would've already done it since Hasbro seems fine with licensing out official stuff that isn't a transforming figure.

Exactly, that's going to be the majority reaction. "That's terrible, I can't believe that's what they're doing." But Haslab isn't the centerpiece of the 40th, there's going to be a metric shit-ton of 40th Anniversary-branded product, mass retail, online, store exclusives. Haslab is one voice in the crowd that's only intended to make between 10,000-20,000 sales, absolutely minuscule compared to other 40th products.

Which is exactly why they should use it for their intended use: Characters who aren't popular enough to be super successful at retail or would significantly benefit for a budget outside of one of the standard retail price ranges.

Again, if there was real demand for a matrix, especially for the 40th, a third party would be all over making one. They made a limited edition one in 2006 apparently, and in the 17 years since, clearly demand hasn't pushed anyone to make more.

I’d buy the Matrix that sounds epic.

I have the 2006 one. It's great. Have no need for a 3rd party newer or haslab. So I agree. It's a grail for some but unnecessary for others. It's just a niche piece in a collection. For 40th we should get the giant autobot halonix Maximus illusion hound used to scare all the decepticons.

I would argue that's the very definition of a Haslab. They aren't really supposed to be these hyper-expensive pieces that everybody wants but only few can afford. They should be stuff that a majority of people actually don't want, yet are costly enough to produce, prohibitive for retail, and desired by enough people that there's enough profit for Hasbro to make them.

That Halonix Maximus actually sounds like a perfect Haslab. There might be 11,000 fans who want one, but I'd bet the large majority of fans don't care about him.

Show me a forum truly dedicated to serious thought anywhere on these boards. Radicons is as close as it comes here to people posing serious thoughts, the other threads are just full of people who take their own thoughts far too seriously.

well according to the wings expanded universe he was leader of the artillery team of elite guard...artillery makes me think howitzer or tank...or maybe like a cybertronian battleship. There would be so much free reign to make him whatever they wanted.

Any idea how their Marvel props do? Like the Eye of Agamotto? That would seem to be the closest to the Matrix.

No idea. I think Transformers fans on the whole are less receptive to props and so forth, so it might be a harder sell and certainly a large question mark as to whether it would fund.

But there's reputedly a third-party transforming Primus being made after Studio Cell. Do you really want a repeat of what happened with Unicron? o_O

As for for my guess, I can think of no better reveal for the 40th anniversary than SS86 Megatron!! :D

Here is a guess- a commander class Soundwave that can play real cassettes and comes with a cassette of music from the G1 cartoon, Laserbeak, Ravage, and a Rumble that's colors are decided by a fan vote. $450. The tiers could be Frenzy colored the opposite of Rumble, and maybe a couple other cassettes. It could all be styled like the G1 toys but bigger.

They've made a whole bunch between Star Wars, Marvel, Power Rangers and Ghostbusters and they keep making new ones, so they must be selling alright.

Well enough that they thought it was worth seeing if people wanted a $400 Proton Pack (they definitely did) and $500 inquisitor lightsaber (not as much)

    https://www.entertainmentearth.com/s/?query1=hasbro+prop

EDIT: I have the Infinity Gauntlet, the Eye of Agamotto, the Tesseract and the Neutrona Wand, with the Proton Pack set to arrive tomorrow. They're all pretty neat, though the tesseract was a disappointment after the really darn cool Eye of Agamotto. I probably would have gone in deep on the Marvel stuff back in the day if space hadn't been an issue. Iron Man's Helmet/Thor's Hammer/Cap's SHIELD would have made a really cool display.
